  1. Not only did Glock extend slightly the length of the bar that pulls on the firing pin, they also lengthened the tab that pushes up on the "drop safety" plunger/firing pin safety thing. (Can't seem to recall the exact name of that mushroom looking part.)

    Itchy

Can someone provide an update on this situation? I'm considering a Glock 21 that is about a year old and want to know if I have anything to worry about.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  2. If the sight radius doesn't make much difference between a 17 & a 34, why don't more people use a 4 1/4 barrel commander than the 5" gov? Should be faster but people in the know alway's use a 5".

    BH,

All things being equal I would certainly choose the G34 over the G17. When forced to make a decision between not being able to find a G34, or having to pay $250 more than the cost of a G17 if you can find one, I rationalized that the slight increase in sight radius wasn't worth the extra money or aggravation. I've had my G17 for less than 2 weeks and have already put 1000 rounds thru it. That's much more fun than wishing I could find a G34. You guys that don't live in MA don't know how lucky you are...

  3. Cuz I knew you were from ma. based on your opening post. For the rest of you enjoying your choices, in mass we can only buy glocks made before 1998. A USED G34 costs around $900 !! Thats the price when they ( very rarely) are on the market.Cuz I shoot at Braintree where do you shoot?

    L12S,

Roger that on the G34 prices. I just couldn't see spending an extra $250 to go from a G17 to a G34. Instead, I bought a G17 and installed Dawson Precision sights on it which I like very much. I wish it were a few ounces heavier but a brass magwell will take care of that if I so desire. While I live in southeastern MA, virtually all my shooting is done in RI. During the warmer months I shoot Pin or Plate matches twice a month and USPSA twice a month. Things slow down for me in the Winter, but if your interested, shoot me a pm and I'll provide scheduling info and locations. There's a range in Foxboro I've recently started shooting at that does an excellant job putting on action pistol matches. They will shoot outdoors thru the winter.

The Braintree club is nice. I shot there once when I met a member there to purchase a gun from him.

  4. Thanks for the info. STI Spartans are not MA Compliant so I don't see one in my future.

I don't "have" to have a Para. Just wondered because they looked nice. Boy, if they are having trouble with that extractor that's going to be a very big deal for them.

The Smith & Wesson 1911 is also an option, but for some reason I've never been fond of them. There's just too many used ones in "like new" condition for sale. Worries me a bit...

  5. I haven't measured 'em, but the notch on mine looks pretty comparable to a BoMar in depth. Maybe a little less, but not much. They do look nicely integrated-- something Bomars don't to me unless they're milled in.

Thanks Shred. I just wanted a little confirmation. I will be ordering mine this morning.

  6. I would like to know if the MGW site pusher tool will work to install the Dawson Precision adjustable rear sight on my Glock 17. It's my understanding that these tools are normally only for the standard Glock fixed sights and don't work with other manufactures adjustable sights. Can anyone provide any more info as to whether or not they will work?

    Thanks,

    Cuz

  7. I've got the Dawson adjustables full set and they're pretty sweet. Don't know if I totally like the green dots in the rear blade, but since I don't shoot the pistol that much to begin with, I suppose I'll get over it.

They're sweet and were a breeze to install.

    Rich

    Rich,

Is it just my perception or is the rear notch on the Dawson adjustables cut shallower than normal? If there is such a thing as a normal notch size.

    -Cuz.

  8. I'm looking at the Dawson Perfect Impact Adjustable Rear Sights in their catalog. I want to put them on my new Glock 17. The notch seems very shallow and I'm wondering if it really is? The notch looks much deeper on their fixed sights, but I prefer the adjustable. Can anyone tell me if there is really a big difference in the notches between the fixed and adjustable?

Can anyone tell me how the Dawson's compare to the Bomar BMCS Adjustable Rear Sight? Are the those notches about the same size?

Are they both solid? Is one actually better or is it a matter of preference? How do they both look on a Glock? Dawson provides a picture of his on a Glock and they look nice. Do the Bomars fit/look about the same?

Thanks in advance for any info provided. I can use all the help/advice I can get.

  9. Duh, your heinie is in the rear.

I Sugest red Dawson fiber front about .105, and Heinie or Dawson FIXED rear sights. aprox ~.135

Sight it in well, and forget it. Shoot well. B)

How do you sight in fixed sights for elevation?

  10. Seems like opinions are split just about down the middle. I do think I'd prefer the G34, but here in MA they are nearly impossible to come by. A G17 is easier and more readily available. The decision may be made based on which one I can actually get my hands on. I will wait on a G34 until my patience runs out, then buy a G17. Either way I'll have a Glock 9mm which is what I want for no real reason other than I don't have one.

    -Cuz.

  11. I'm having trouble locating a G34 and am considering going for a G17 which seem to be more readily available. Is there really a big difference between the two? The barrel is 3/4 of an inch longer and it's got an extra inch of sight radius. Other than that, I can equip a G17 with the extended mag release and slide release if I want them, and I can also install a lighter trigger which gives me an identical frame platform as is on a G34. Should I forget about the G34 and just get the G17?

This gun will be used mostly for local plate shoots and may become a house gun if I ever get a new 1911 in 9mm to replace it. Other than that it will mostly just hang out in the safe just because I want to own a 9mm Glock.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  12. Clean it with bullets...

Are you guys seriously not touching your bores? I've had an SVI pistol with a .40 cal AET barrel that I've been petrified to run a patch thru because of what Wil said. So far I've got about 7k of Zero and Montana Gold JHPs thru and I'm starting to wonder if I should clean it or not.

What about using a nylon brush with bore cleaner? What could that possibly hurt???

    -Cuz.

  13. Another difference is the G35 breachface won't hold the 9mm case tightly on the side across from the extractor. From above posts this doesn't look like a bad problem with the conversion barrels, maybe the bore is cut to one side a little??

    Eric,

Can you or anyone elaborate on this? Does replacing the extractor fix this? Can someone tell me if this is something I should be concerned about?

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

On the Lone Wolf site.. it lists 2 different 9MM barrels.. one for the 34, one for the 35. Is there really a difference?

    LWD-34N M/34 9mm Stock Length $89.95

    LWD-359N M/35 9mm Stock Length $89.95

    Thanks...

I'm guessing the outside dimension is different. Won't the G35 require a bigger barrel diameter to fill up the whole in the slide? Just a guess.

    -Cuz.

  14. I recently got the lone wolf 9mm conversion for my G35. Couldn't be happier. So far I have only changed the magazines and it runs fine.

SSP rules spcifically mention configuration and caliber. The ESP rule mentions configuration only.

    Rik

    Rik,

Is the lone wolf 9mm conversion just a barrel or does it include other parts like extractor and ejector?

    -Cuz.

  15. You can get barrels (like you said Storm Lake, or KKM, etc) they will drop in, but the real problem is the ejector and extractor. Although I must say I have on occasion forgot to switch ejectors and had no real problems to speak of.

But for safetys sake you should switch ejectors. Extractor would be more of a fail to extract issue. Easy to buy on the net, and easy to change.

What ejector and extractor would I need to get to install? Is it a standard G17 parts? Can you please explain why the ejector is a safety issue?

So if I replace the barrel, ejector and extractor do I have a 9mm shooting G35 that's every bit as reliable as a G34? The only difference would be a little extra weight up front because of the thicker barrel right?

    -Cuz.

  16. I want to learn more about how Glocks work. I currently have the Jerry Miculek video on S&W Revolvers and want to know if there is something similar for Glocks? The only video I've found is from the American Gunsmith Institute. Are those any good?

Can someone recommend a book or video that will show me how to completely strip my Glock (and put it back together)?

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.
