  1. I'm using a Dillon RL550B, and have just started loading 9mm. I'm using lots of Glock brass and am having a hard time at the first sizing station. I'm wondering if I should be sizing my brass before loading or maybe just spray it with some lubricant instead? If I do lube it do you have to do something afterward to clean the loaded rounds? I don't seem to have this problem with my .40 or .45 caliber loads.

    Thanks,

    Cuz.

  2. I have a nagging problem: brass hits me in the thumb.

I know the first thought is 'move your thumb, dummy!'.....but that really hasn't worked too well so far. I shoot thumbs forward/high grip, standard fare stuff, especially for those of us who shoot tupperware. The casings eject and hit me in my thumb--gets uncomfortable and distracting pretty quickly. I recall someone (Alex Casis?) having some sort of 'tweaked' ambi-safety that helped alleviate this. Anyway........anyone ever have this problem?

If so, what did you do? ( And before anyone says it, I'm not cutting off my thumb! :P )

    -Mike

I have the same problem. But for me, the sting of the brass hitting my thumb is enough of a reminder that I need to "move my thumb". I basically just started canting my thumbs forward rather than up. I can't figure out any other solution, so keep me posted if you find something.

  3. If you are buying your shooting Chrony from the factory, I highly recommend getting the memory upgrade so it will hold 1000 shots.

When I go to the range, all I need to record is the string and what ammo I used. I can store over 100 ten shot strings in permanent memory. Then when I get home I enter the data from the chrony into a spreadsheet on my computer. It's very easy and convenient.

  4. Thanks for all the input. I ended up doing a complete 180 and acquired an STI Eagle in 9mm. I decided that 45acp bullets were getting way too expensive to use for local plate shoots. The 9mm bullets cost half as much. Of course, I'll have to use the savings to outfit my Dillon with everything needed to start loading 9mm now. But that's an investment rather than an expenditure.

  5. Thanks for all the inputs. I was able to shoot my 9mm with the 38 super mags today without incident. Well, at least the gun functioned, I on the other hand did not shoot it as well as I'd hoped, but once I put some rounds thru it and get intimate with it that will change. I will be shooting mags with spacers as soon as they arrive. If the plastic ones cause problems or wear out I'll go directly to stainless. I dont' want to load long as I will shoot the same load in my Glock 17.

    Thanks again.

  6. If you want something short term...give me your address and I'll send you some delrin spacers. They work as well as the stainless ones, just don't hold up long term. That's what we used before we got the stainless ones made. If the spacer is to be used with a 126mm mag, then you just cut a 140 spacer down.

    Chris,

Thanks a lot for the offer. I will remember your generosity when its time to order some upgrade parts for my Glock and/or STI. When I said short term, I meant only for tomorrow. I already have some mags "in the mail" that will be here next week. They will already have spacers in them. If they are not the metal ones, then I'll head over to your website and get some stainless ones.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  7. Actually, this isn't a long term solution. Just want to run the super mags for one match.

Also, how come no one seems to sell spacers for the 126mm mags? All I see are spacers for the 140 or 170mm lengths. I've got 4 126mm Dawson Tuned mags coming and I'm assuming they will have spacers in them. I didn't want the 140s because I normally only get to load 8 or 10 rounds at a time in our local shoots. I also got a couple of 140s just to have them. I don't have a need or desire for the 170s. I won't be shooting major.

  8. If you're talking about Single Stack the answer is yes. I use the Chip McCormick 38 Super mags with my STI Trojan and they are much more reliable than the MetalForm 9mm Mags from STI. The only thing you may need to do is tweak the follower just a touch if the gun is locking back with one round left. Very easy fix and well worth it.

    Angel

    Angel,

Actually, it's a 2011 frame, not a single stack. I won't be able to tweak anything on the mag as I'll just be borrowing them for one day. I have some 9mm mags on the way, but they won't be here in time for me to shoot tomorrow. I was just hoping I could borrow my friends 38 super mags and run them the way they are in my gun. I guess the only real answer is to try it and hope for the best.

  9. I've been told that I can take a 38 super mag and just load it with 9mm ammo and it will work with no problems in a STI 9mm. Can someone verify this? The ammo is factory Winchester white box 9mm 115gr FMJ. Unfortunately I don't have any mags handy to test with, but am planning on borrowing a couple until mine come in.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  10. Smaller grip, Abmi safety and Picatinny rail. Probably trying to compete with the XD45.

Here are some pics a little over half way down the page.

    Pics

Say it aint so. I don't want a smaller grip.

  11. With Glocks newest incarnation of the G21, this gun is looking more and more attractive for multiple platforms.

What do you mean by new incarnation? Did Glock recently change something???

    -Cuz.

  12. That's interesting. I didnt' realize the sight radius was longer on the G21. That's a bonus.

The do it yourself gunsmithing is what's really pushing me towards the Glocks. I like having a gun I can fix myself if need be. I think I need one in each caliber just to be safe.

    -Cuz.

Actually .5 inch longer in the sight radius than the 1911, even though the barrel is .5 inch shorter than the 1911. Because of the shorter barrel, the G21's muzzle velocity will be somewhat less. Perhaps up to 25fps less.

Do it yourself gunsmithing is no more than drop in parts, and testing different springs. But rest assured you will spend plenty on parts just because there are so many options. And more Glocks later in other calibers when you get hooked. Glocks are not expensive. For 1 custom 1911, you can buy 6 Glocks.

So if I add the Bomar rear sights that extend out another .5 inches past the slide I'll get even more sight radius. Of course, that would probably pigeon hole the gun as a competition only as it's about the only part that would take me longer than a few minutes to put back in it's original condition. And the Bomar doesn't look as durable as the Dawson adjustables I just put on my G17.

    Thanks for the info.

  13. The sight radius on the G21 is longer than a 1911. Very accurate gun, and most of all dependable as a self defense gun even when dirty. I can't say the same for 1911s when they are dirty or even cleaned.

Also there is nothing to learn than point the thing. A 1911 you have to be sure the flick the thumb safety off, and have your grip deactivate the grip safety. A much higher learning curve.

Only reason to get a 1911 is if you want to shoot single stack in USPSA. I shoot every division in USPSA, and IDPA except revolver. The Glocks can fit them all except single stack, and revolver.

And finally the do it yourself gunsmithing with a Glock is priceless and lots of fun!

  14. Thanks folks.. i have tried that page 20 times.. and nothing.. lol.. oh well.. i'll call him.

Thanks for the info.. i have a bid in on ebay at the moment for some brass.. 3k worth.. see how that turns out.

    Appreciate it folks.

    Jeff.

    jeff,

I have comcast and can't get to the website.

  15. Brother, sounds like you are out of reasons to not get yourself a G21. I did a little digging. HERE is one brass magwell that I found for the large frame Glocks.

I have a hunch that Dawson may have something that will fit as well. You might want to send them an email and ask.

I think you're right. Thanks for the info on the magwell. I wonder how I missed that one when I looked???

I have the aluminum Glockmeister on my 21, love it.

I too have large hands and love the feel of the 21. When I shoot my 35 or the open 17 it feels like my hands are all over them.

If you are looking for fast reloads, I would go with the JP mag release. It has a nice tear drop shape that you can hit without having to change your grip on the wide body of the 21.

I'm a lefty, so the standard mag release tends to work just fine. Anything bigger and it interferes with my grip. Thanks for the info on the aluminum magwell, but I want to add some weight to the frame so I'd prefer brass.

  16. It's a great gun...much less moody than the G36. It's only potential downfall is that it is thicker than the other Glocks. That being said, I owned one for a while and really enjoyed shooting it.

    One question though...shooting a 45 for a plate match?

The thicker frame is a bonus. I have big hands and like big full size grips. I figure to lighten up the springs so it will cycle with a nice light load and plan to use it with the same ammo that I shoot in my 45acp revolver. Basically, I just sold a 45 auto because it was a compact and now feel like my safe has an empty spot that just needs to be filled with a more usable 45 auto. That's got me leaning towards the Glock. I've already got a Colt Gold Cup 1911 that I don't like and want to find something different.

    -Cuz.

It's a larger frame than the 17 so check to see how it feels in you hand - I like the way that frame feels.

    The 21's are fine guns.

Thanks for the info Viggen. The only flaw I've found so far is that there doesn't seem to be a nice heavy magwell available for the large frame Glocks. I would like to add some weight to the frame if possible.

    -Cuz.

  17. I'm thinking of getting a Glock 21, what can you guys tell me about it? Any different than the rest of the Glock models? I'm looking for a full sized 45acp I can use in local plate/pin matches. I'm just wondering what the general reviews are regarding this particular model. I just got a G17 which I like a lot. Now I'm looking for a 45.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  18. It's possible you have the LAPD problem with a trigger-bar nose that's too short or similar.

But the first thing I thought of when reading your post is that your connector may not have enough tension on it. I would put in another connector if you have one, if not you can order them from Glockmeister or CGR.

Also, a real quick safety check would be to take your slide off the frame and look at the acute angle at the back&top of the trigger bar - the part that pushes on the striker and then releases it. Make sure it's a pretty sharp angle, not rounded off. If it IS rounded off there is no repair, you must replace the entire trigger bar. Doubt this is your problem as you did not say you've gone full auto [most common result of rounded angle] but this is worth a check anyway.

If you've done a LOT of trigger work [redrilling the spring hole, etc] then you've got more possible causes, PM me if that's the case.

Does this mean that Glock 21's have a problem? Is this a defect from Glock? Has there been a recall? Where can I get more info on this problem? I'm considering a G21 and want to make sure I don't get one with a problem.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.
