  1. +1 for cases4less.com

Ordered prior to a few matches in Spain.

And I reside overseas, not next to Europe...

    +2 for cases4less.

Except I went with a Storm case as I like the latches a bit better. It's also a little lighter, but to get the lighter weight, you do give up a bit of the toughness of a Pelican case.

  2. Those in good shape interest some collectors. I may try that route.

"Good shape" is a difficult term. Mine's in excellent shooting shape as I've had Clarks Custom go thru it and do a bunch of stuff back quite a few years ago. A collector may consider it "modified". I took it out to a local plate match today and actually kicked butt with it. Now I'm liking it all over again. I don't know, selling guns never seems to work out for me.

  3. We need to talk :)

For now, how about a gunsmith using the existing sight and cutting it, drilling it, and installing the fiber rod??

    RGS,

I'm always interested in hearing any ideas you may have. I've already had the local gunsmith butcher the front sights on two of my guns by drilling a hole and inserting fibre. I don't think I'd want to ruin this site that way.

  4. You could try to sell it.A S&W collector would go nuts over it .

Now there's a theory. That would help fund a nice new 627. Of course, that would mean I'd have to clean the gun. Haven't done that in years. That's why I always try to buy stainless guns. You know, this may actually be the way to go except that I really love the action work that Clark Custom did way back in 1994. Still feels smooth as glass.

Thanks for the thought though. For some reason selling a gun never enters my mind.

  5. The front sight Cuz is talking about is a 4 position PPC sight, The front of the barrel were the sight sits is already milled down below the top rib of the barrel. I believe the sight is mounted by screws. ( I never took mine off ) BTW: these were done by S&W for a few models.

I think it may be pinned down, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a huge block of metal. I would hate to replace it with something the didn't look good. I definitely didn't want to have to replace the barrel either. I had one of my sights drilled out for a fibre and it came out awful. I won't go there again. I was actually hoping to replace the whole top part that moves up and down with one that had a fibre in it. That would have been easiest to do. Does anyone know who actually made that site? I guess I'll have to call S&W on Monday to get more info.

  6. Hello,

I have an older (1991 maybe) S&W 686 with an adjustable front sight. Does anyone know if there is a replacement fibre optic front site that will work for this model? There is no dovetail, the front site is a big contraption that allows for four different height adjustments. I just dug it out of my safe to start using after many years and now it's my only gun without a fibre optic front site and I can't shoot it for crap. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  7. I also use 38 Short Colts in my 627 with moonclips custom made for Starline brass by James Swenson.

Thanks for the info. Anyone want to offer some load suggestions for the 38 short colts? Right now I'm using a Berry 158gr RN bullet.

  8. My local USPS is starting to give me problems also.

As I wheeled out the boxes to the car she was still pissing and moaning about the weight. My response was to the effect that these were to be delivered to my home. They were not. You have failed to do your job. If it happens again a complaint will be filed. Understand? Shock and awe.

About to make a bullet order. We'll see how it works out.

I'd like to hear how this one ends up...

  9. Once again, forgive my ignorance, but, does the short colt brass fit in a standard 627 chambered for .357? Will traditional moon clips work? Ok, I've gone this far so why stop now... Any chance you could load them with a 115 or 124 gr 9mm bullet head and get decent results out to say 50 feet?

I'm looking for answers to each question individually as I'm considering two different directions here.

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  10. You guys talked me into it--I'm gonna try this.

I've applied this theory to all my guns. In fact, I've taken it a step further and now I only clean them when they stop working. It's amazing how much more fun shooting is without the hassle of cleaning. Especially with my Glocks which run longer than any other guns no matter how dirty they get.

    -Cuz.

  11. Not sure 9mm would accomplish that much in a revolver, the big advantage of 9mm is brass cost, and since we get to keep all our brass anyway you might as well get a regular .38/.357 627 and a couple thousand pieces of Short Colt brass.....

Forgive my ignorance, but what is "short colt brass"?

    -Cuz.

  12. Cuz, give 'em a try and see how your gun likes 'em.

I'm not a big fan personally.

I loaded a bunch of these bullets with VV N310 for my 625 and shot them at the IRC back in June. I knew that accuracy at 50 yards was so-so, and so I shot a cast 185-gr. SWC on the two longer strings of the standards instead (which is legal as long as both loads make chrono). The bigger issue is that I got weird, inconsistent ignition with the HBRN, sort of a "BANG-BANG-pop-BANG" thing. It never really created a problem, but it happened a bunch and I didn't care for it. Reloaded nice, though....

I know last year Dan was loading the Berry's HBRN to major p.f. for USPSA, but he told me this spring he's moved away from them as well, decided he didn't really like them.

Thanks for the info. I've heard from others that they weren't that great at major PF velocities but were ok for ICORE and lower PF stuff like plates. I guess I'll have to buy a small quantity and experiment before I consider moving away from the 200gr round shoulder bullet shape.

  13. I was wondering if anyone is currently using Berry's 185gr Hollow Base Round Nose (HBRN) bullets? I am considering them for my 625 Revo for steel plates. They are lighter which means cheaper than other round nosed bullets. I'm wondering how accurate they are. Does the hollow base affect loading? Do they hold their shape well?

    Thanks,

    -Cuz.

  14. I'd love to have a 627 in 9mm. With the cost of 45 bullets I'm getting ready to retire my 625 and was considering a traditional 627. I'd held off because I don't want to get started shooting 38 specials again. Since I'm already shooting almost exclusively 9mm in my autos I'd love to have a matching 9mm Revo to shoot. Man, I bet it wouldn't take long for the ammo savings alone to pay for the cost of the gun...

    Sign me up for one.

  15. 76.69 for 20k bullets for the "Club" price on 180gr. FP?

    What am I missing here?

Cabela's is selling the 180gr. FP for 16.99 as the original poster stated, which is cheaper.

I guess the best strategy is just to buy right from Cabela's and you only have to buy 250 bullets at a time...

You are missing the rapidly increasing costs for materials. I can only guess that Cabelas bought a large quantity when the prices were lower so they can sell them for less. When you make a bulk purchase direct from Berry's you have to pay the current prices based on the cost of materials at the time of purchase. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I'm just passing along the details for those that are interested. I may have to look into Cabellas myself for some 9mm bullets.

  16. I ran out of Winchester primers, and I can't buy them local anymore. Should I reduce powder charges for the Federal primers, or does it not really matter?

The load I've been using most often is 4.4 or 4.5 grains of TiteGroup in 9mm with a 115 gr. jacketed bullet. With the Winchester primers at least, I can go up to 4.6 grains without signs of high pressure, even though it's beyond most loadbook data.

I see that some load data specifies a certain primer, but other data doesn't mention primer brand or type. I have also heard that Federal primers are "hotter."

Have you ever chrono'd that load? I'd be curious as to the details of the load (bullet type, oal, etc.) and velocity results.

In 9mm, I load 3.9gr TiteGroup with a 124 gr Zero FMJ or Berry RN and I see no discernible difference between Winchester, Federal, or CCI small pistol primers. They all chrono with a PF = 130. I did see a difference with small rifle primers but didn't chrono them.

  17. As of Friday, the Berry's surcharge on Club pricing is $ 0.80 / pound. That means if you got the discounted rate direct from Berry's by buying 20k bullets the 40 caliber 180 gr RN or FP will cost you $72.19 per thousand (+ shipping). Shipping is $9 per 2k bullets for that particular bullet so your delivered cost direct from Berry's would be $76.69 per thousand. But, you need to buy a minimum of 20K bullets to get this pricing.

    Hope that helps.

  18. Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct place for this question or not. Can you tell me if the CR Speed hi-tourque two-part belt system is legal to use in Production Division? What about the Safariland two-part belt system?

Thanks in advance. I did a quick search and didn't find it here.

    -Cuz.

Please cancel my question. Apparently I didn't search hard enough. I looked a bit harder and found the answer to my question. It would seem that they are legal to use.
