  1. It's okay. I put a new Dawson FO sight on my Para P16-40 Limited right before a steel challenge match. Had a buddy shooting it. Bad day overall. Got shot with frag from a 180 grain FMJ right in the tip of my swizzle stick. Shot horribly that day. Aaaaaaand my brand new FO Dawson front sight flew off while my buddy was shooting it, never to be found.
  2. Our local 3-gun match doesn't use barrels, partly for this reason. I always unload my guns regardless, except for the pump shotgun, because of this possibility, though. Dump tables are even more prone sometimes if they slide off.
  3. Here in Alaska our concern is more about slippery conditions. Had a guy during three gun slip backwards while moving with a loaded, off-safe, shotgun. The collective gasp as he didn't break the 180 AND had his finger on the receiver was great...we adjusted the stage for no movement after that.
  4. I've noticed being fit really helping me with my shooting. I had a back injury in 2007 that would cause pain with a heavy gun my hip. Now that I've started lifting weights again the pain has almost vanished. Plus, being able to run on those long field courses really helps.
  5. I think that's the rub for a lot of shooters. Shifting your grip with the reload adds time and work to get back on target. I'm glad I added the thumb it out on my grips for my single stack and got an extended and oversized release for my double stack Para.
  6. Ahhh, I see now. Good to be aware of that.
  7. Good to know. I never thought I'd get her up to 15k rounds in the first place, so replacing a recoil spring to make sure she stays in fighting trim is fine with me.
  8. Hi all, I've been shooting USPSA since around 2005 and IDPA and Steel Challenge since 2012. I'm US Army, as my name implies, and am stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. I shoot limited with a Para P16-40 Limited, and L10 with my Desert Eagle 1911 G. IDPA is with whatever I feel like at the time. I'm currently looking at upgrading to an STI for limited and love the support and information available here. Thanks to you all for helping me step my game up to the next level. Also, if you ever shoot an outdoor match in Alaska in here the winter months...bring lube that's rated for the temp, and good shooting gloves. Contact frostbite is no joke. Thanks, and take care. -John
  9. OG, would the concern be the bushing ID is too tight, or too loose? Bushing fitting would be pretty cheap/easy, wouldn't it?
  10. Thanks, OG. I do something similar. Field strip and clean after each match, detail strip every 2-3 months. Only thing I've noticed is pitting on the. Breech face from primers with bad ammo a year ago. Doesn't affect function so I leave it alone. And I heard recoil springs should be changed around 5k rounds, is that not correct?
  11. My tax return is coming soon and I could afford an SVI with it...would take ALL of it...but...wife would probably leave me...a man can dream, though.
  12. I had a trigger job done on it right after I bought it to install a 10-8 flat short trigger and had the GS set it at about 4.5 lbs (like I said, carry gun). It was crisp with minimal creep and a little over travel at the time. It has since gotten much less crisp (slop) and a tad more over travel. I can still shoot it just fine, but I compete with it in L10 occasionally and IDPA a lot, so I like to know it's where I want it. Thanks for the advice, OG. Anything to watch for as the round count goes up?
  13. 200 yard gong with my mom's 1964 SW Model 15-2. Gong was probably 24" (I know, not very impressive. Was for me at the time) 5 out of six shots with Remington UMC factory RN after a cylinder to sight in. Standing, supported from a beam. I was pretty proud of myself. I think I've gotten better since then.
  14. I've had my desert eagle 1911 G since late 2010 and have put about 15k rounds through the pipe. Still stock except for grips, recoil spring, sights, mainspring and MSH, and trigger. What's a good round count/time to let my gunsmith look it over for a tune up? The trigger could use an adjustment as it's gotten some more slop in the past 3-5k rounds, but it's my daily carry so I'm hesitant to change anything without a good reason. She runs like a top still, besides the odd mag problem with 10 rounders. Thoughts?
  15. Why not go the full long slide look? I've been wanting a 6" gun for years, but 5" handles better in uspsa for me.
  16. What ParaGunner said. I think I remember having a similar problem, but I can't be sure. Worst case scenario is a new slide stop if it is the problem, so at least its a cheap part. *shrug*
  17. Odd. I get 21 reloadable in my P16-40 mags with Dawson pads. I do hear a salt shaker effect when loaded to capacity, but it has yet to affect feeding for me. I do load long (1.180), so there's that. Any luck finding true 9mm mags for your gun? I feel like you should be able to get more than 22 rounds in 9mm...
  18. Nah he, you're good. I shot for 2 months with my leg in a stiff brace. Can't count the amount of times I almost fell over. Check your ego at the door.
  19. Was ROing a match when something similar happened to me. Ended up being quick enough on my feet to get behind him so no biggie. Score keeper verified I didn't interfere. Bad stage design though.
  20. I just wish there were more aftermarket parts for Para's. I'm going to have to have my trigger ground down to make a short flat trigger for my P16-40.
  21. Still just VZ that makes grips for them? I'm kind of tired of my mutilated black plastic grips I have on my P16-40.
  22. Thanks for the idea of what to do with my slide. Been considering getting my slide cut. I have a P16-40 Limited made in like 99. I'm going to try a 12# spring too.
  23. Gah. I'm considering making the plunge and buying a used STI Edge...or wait a few months and get a pro custom 16-40...dang.
