  1. welcome to fight night {not a i.d.p.a. sanctioned match} and I wasn’t the so on that stage, but was on the other side Yep that’s the rule, only on slide lock can you dump the mag As afar as round dumping, yes it can be given a penalty, if both of your first rounds are a zero score, and at that distance would be blatant The stage he is referring to as he described t-1, t-2 Mozambique {7yrds}, retreat a short distance to a barrier, t-3,4and 5 receive two rounds{5 yrds}, then advance to a short barrier requiring one knee on the ground to shoot t-7-8{7 yrds} t-3,4,5 where so close to each other round dumping wasn’t really warranted {almost over lapping}, the transition time to t-4 should not have been anymore but .10-.20 seconds slower than the time to dump that extra round
  2. Ok I brought this back to the top because I actually have done it {trigger freeze} at two matches since I posted this, and after re reading it, I again thanks for the advice but here is my conclusions after the advice and replaying the nightmare of it happening over and over again First I do realize how important and un important split times are, while I do agree with you guys that it is a small portion of your shooting capabilities, I do feel they cannot be ignored, and have not been ignored by most of you, or you would not know what your times are I do think it is a user malfunction, and not a mechanical error, during some bill drills on Friday I was in the mid teens {down from high teens}, and the next day at a match I had 4 targets first was yards second was 5 out to 15 or so, the problem occurred only at the 3 yard target, now playing this over and over, and comparing it to the same time it occurred in October the two incidents have one thing in common, both time where at three yards So how do I figure out what exactly I am doing?, I do realize the easy solution of slowing down, but I have to know exactly why {I am sure most of you are the same way}, I suspect a few thing angle, or my brain moving to fast for my body {adult add will get you every time}
  3. I got a few thousand Remington small pistol primers given to me, and would like to know how they compare to federal primers as far as hardness, I have my trigger on my 686 very light, and sometimes does not set off a Winchester primer due to their hardness
  4. who pulls the trigger is my friend, this phrase should say it all I have met very good people from both sides of the sport, and I thought 1911 vs glock was an issue, this is almost incomprehensible it is far worse than Baptist vs Catholics vs Jehovah witnesses, bottom line is our goal is all the same, however I have personally felt hostility/bias from uspsa shooters on this forum as well as off the forum, I can imagine that works both ways, but not as a rule of thumb from all members {there’s one in every crowd rings a bell} now as a I.d.p.a. shooter I can see benefits from shooting uspsa and carrying over the shooting techniques, I can also see where the rules could be a problem from force of habit for those shooters Sure some rules really suck, but I would bet most of them have arrived out of necessity on both of the sports if bill did not want to “take back the sport” in the manner he wrote the book there would be another issue of copy cat of uspsa, I believe it may be a never ending issue, I do think the phrase mentioned above and as Brian mentioned in his book it is trigger time that is important{not an exact quote}, I believe in this regardless of whether you shoot pistols, rifles or shotgun I will end this by saying what a not so great man once said “can’t we all just get along”{LOL} Edited to remove Taran Butler DQ reference. NH
  5. i don't know this one looks pretty smooth at 3.69 http://www.andersonshooting.com/images/video/3_69_Down2.mpg
  6. I guess if all I had to see him was once a year I wouldn’t mind it ether {lol} Sorry j couldn’t resist, thanks for the pic of me and ayoob
  7. Thanks for the replies, because I like my trigger just the way it is, and was not sure I wasn’t getting better times from what was mentioned to me, at only one time I ever had trigger freeze, I never experienced it before therefore when it happened for that split millisecond I had no ideal until I was actually done, but it was caused from shooting a double/single trigger on a different gun for a few weeks, I never have had it before or since, because I figured out it was more of a subconscious action Yes I agree about transitions, not just getting your gun to point b from point a, your vision is the week link in the process, I practice side to side transitions from left to right/right to left , and near to far/far to near transitions, all while seeing the target
  8. Loves2shoot where are your splits with those guns? I have to say I can honestly see them at around .18-.20, it is not the only thing I work on, but I do not think it should be ignored I am curious for those that do get their splits down in the low teens, where does {or if }trigger freeze becomes an issue, and how is it cured So far my best bill drill is 1.77{average 2.06}, transitions .30 with ok accuracy great accuracy at .40
  9. Ok I am not sure if this is the correct forum since it is a training/equipment question, but here goes My current set up is a Wilson combat with a factory trigger of 3.2 pounds, while I average my slits in the high teens with occasional .16, I was discussion a new gun I am getting with a more experienced shooter/gunsmith and he told me to get my splits down I need to up the poundage through my sear spring because any faster than I am already I will get trigger freeze, ok so I fully understand the logic of having a light trigger through the means of the sear, and then tuning the sear spring to make it push the trigger past reset faster, but I am curious as to how many of you do it {do i need to tune my spring} And any exercises you do besides the normal bill drills etc to get your splits down
  10. here is one i made up awhile back, it will give you an ideal, this is more for i.d.p.a. and can be modified to suit your needs, this is i think a total of 490 rounds, i do split it in half then start all over and finish the rest DRILL_SCORE_SHEET.doc
  11. I had a bottle of clays that shot sparks that looked like a roman candle, then I bought a 8# jug, and no sparks, I think it was a bad run or something, I find clays very clean, a bit stout on the recoil Some of the guys I shoot with have changed to ramshot silhouette, they make power factor with less recoil, I just picked up a pound today at a gun show and will work up a load over the next week or two, I use 185 swc bushwhackers, and no matter what powder I have used I get smoke due to the lube burning
  12. bill drills, and el'prez drills, above all practice, if that is your weak spot practice it, your on the right direction just knowing your weak spot, now practice it until it is not
  13. they are legal, I shot two sanctioned matches since April, no problem
  14. What makes it more memorable ?, what is it you take home with you? A Trophy , I was really surprised at my first state championship to see a little fifteen inch high trophy, I get those at local matches, you would figure a state championship would fork out a few bucks more than a nine or ten dollar trophy, don’t get me wrong I am glad to get what I got, but even when other people see it, I get the same reaction A nice dual column trophy cost around five bucks more As far as pictures go you do not need a professional these days , just a nice digital camera, mine takes awesome pictures and good quicktime movies, I have taken a few for a local clubs web site they turn out great
  15. I think brain farts where contagious that day, I have mine the first four or five stages, my best was stage nine, and that was the one they threw out, my only clean run of the day, I liked the house clearing my self did it in 30.and some change 4 down, I could have did better that last target through the window was not where I thought it was , i did manage to pull second place though And yes hats off to Scott for running a really good show, it was worth the trip

    but what is it??????????????????????
  17. I have always assumed dry fire drills will be faster, than live fire, and not necessarily that I the faster of the two should be how fast I can draw but just the opposite, I can consistently dry fire draw at .8 but cannot break 1. Live fire very often {occasional .91}, I do have dummy rounds loaded up for dry firing to make up the loaded weight while dry firing, I just figured the extra time was because during dry fire I wasn’t always getting on target, and have no way of knowing if I was, in addition my dry fire targets are much closer Only nickel brass I have in the house is dummy rounds, no loaded nickel, so I can never confuse them with a live round loaded in brass

    That’s the ring pillow brain ahs give out over the years to ease the pain of the arse kicking he handed out at matches It look like a tire, and it looks like a attempt at art with grease
  20. I cry foul, trick question Coca Cola is a noun, not a statement{lol}
  21. Due to range restriction {long story} I started at ten yards with three 4” targets about four feet apart, I was doing them at .45 during practice so I started at 120bpm=.5 and then worked my way up to 180bpm=.33 but was a bit erratic in hitting the target, slowed it down to 150bpm my transitions timed out at .35-.4 accurately I will when the range is empty go out further, and mix it up a bit, but it does work, and did help working hard on that .2
  22. Well I actually tried it live fire with an ear bud, I managed to shave .10 seconds of my transitions first time out, it is amazing how it changes the concept of time when doing it, at first I had thought I was doing transitions as fast as I could at this my point in training, but after timing my self, then setting the cadence to my time, then increasing my cadence, I was impressed with how well it worked It has also made me notice at a match other people pace a bit better
  23. I will quote myself I am not here to argue, an opinion was asked I give mine, if you enjoy it and it works for you then fine ,I see no reason for myself to put that cheap crap through my pistol when I can reload much better quality for under 60 bucks a thousand ,i tried it, did not like it all
