  1. Using RCBS dies on a Dillon 550. Sometimes the spent primers get stuck on the decapping pin and they get restuck into the sized casing when you bring the lever back up. Anyone have this problem? How did you fix it? Thanks
  2. That's interesting, thanks! Thats the kind of info I like too. I'm shooting a Steelmaster too. 124g bullet, 4.0g of 700-x puts me right at 1000 fps. Let my friend try it and he said I was cheating;)
  3. Zack and Jax, seems like we are thinking along the same lines. Doug, using the stop plate on Speed Option is an example I hear sometimes, but again, I dont understand it. The stop plate on that one is the 18x24 plate. That means you have 9" of verticle variation where as on the other plates you are working with a 5" variation. Funny enough, it may all be semantics. Calculated my ballistics and i have virtually the same POI at 15 and 35 yards!
  4. So what distance does everyone sight in for? I hear a lot of people say 35 yards, but not sure where people come up with that. I'm thinking 15 yards (45 feet) makes a little more sense. Here's my rationale, let me know what you think. If we look at all of the round targets on each of the stages, the average distance is about 14 yards (41 ft) or so (closest at 21' and furthest at 60'). I'm only counting the rounds because the smallest is 10", which gives us 5" of variation to still hit the plate. I am not looking at the rectangles because at 18"x24" still gives us 9" of variation side to side and 12" up and down, so really is not a factor. The farthest shots are 105' (35 yards) and are all on rectangles which have the biggest margin of error in the first place. If 15 yards is the average distance for our most common targets, why not sight in for that?
  5. I'm in a wheelchair and shoot matches all the time! ROs are more than willing to work with you on accommodations, especially if it doesn't effect the outcome of the match. I'm not fast enough, but I can still compare points!
  6. Thanks. Might do that if I can make it work. Heard there is a Friday shoot at the indoor range every week in town. Know anything about those?
  7. When I lived at the Olympic Training Center we did a study. Interestingly enough, there is good reason why you can't sight in a gun for someone else. We found that different people actually look thru different parts of their eye, thus look thru sights differently. Some of us looked thru the center of the pupil, while others looked thru spots off-center of the pupil. Put a mirror with a small hole in it over a scope or a peep sight and you will see what I mean. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't when you are trying to shoot someone else's gun. With handguns the problem is certainly more pronounced because of changes in grip and strength, and throw the vision part in and there can be significant differences. Never would I assume that because someone else sighted in a gun, that it would be the same for me. It might be close, or might be spot on if you and the other person match up. But more than likely there will be a small (or large) difference in point-of-impact. When teaching basic pistol classes I find that two partners at 15', shooting the same gun, might be 3"-4" different in POI. Is one of you right or wrong? No. Each of you just shoots the gun a little differently. Sight it in for yourself.
  8. Yup. No mag restrictions for SCSA Limited. If you can get 27 in there you could shoot all 5 runs without changing mags!
  9. Will be in Kalispel for two weeks in April (10-23). Anyone know of a club that might have a match around that time? Contact info would be appreciated!
  10. Just wondering... Do people rack their slides or just cock their hammer to reset when dry firing? I cock the hammer, but see a lot of people doing it the other way too. Using a 1911/2011. Benefits of either?
  11. 6.13 average. Had to do it with the .22 since that's the only way I can train right now. Had at least one miss on almost every string though, but not out by much. Look forward to the 2nd part!
  12. Awesome idea with the clamp system. Always like universal fitting parts. Way easier to mfg for multiple uses and brands!
  13. I will be down in the Kalispell area for a couple of weeks in April and am looking for some Steel matches if you know of any!
  14. To answer your question, No! The manufacturers do not support those types of holsters. They are cheap knock offs made in places like Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are not licenced or authorized by th designers or manufacturers. Basically it is intellectual property theft and copying of often patented items ( which neither of those things mean in those kinds of countries). Don't think you are getting anywhere near the same quality, and the people who spent the time on r&d are getting nothing from it. You see the ame thing with the knock off c-mores. That being said, I am not totally against them. If saving a couple hundred bucks by buying one of those is the difference between someone starting shooting and not, go for it! In the long run you will want to upgrade and get better equip from the real deal from the resl companies. Many people dont have the funds to dump into gear for a sport they dont know if they are going to do seriously! Lots of people wont agree with the last point, I am just looking at it realistically.
  15. I guess it wasn't designed with one so doesn't really need it. I've always had one in there so don't know the difference. Is there much felt recoil difference? I guess if it wasn't designed with one don't have to worry about it protecting it from getting beaten up.
  16. Just worked on this last night with an experienced shooter friend. I have a slow trigger finger too. Have a hard time getting splits much lower than .25-.30. What he has me working on is getting my finger off the trigger as soon as the shot breaks and having it back on the trigger, pressed and prepped, before the recoil is complete. This means that as soon as the front sight is back on the target you can pull the trigger again. I'm basically leaving my finger on the trigger until the recoil stops, then pressing and prepping, and breaking a new shot. Got it right 2 or 3 times and saw a huge difference, just going to take a little while to get used to it!!!
  17. Have a Kimber 1911. After it goes to slide lock or you lock it open, the slide will not go forward without using the slide release. You can not pull on the slide and let it go to release it. I have tried polishing the slide lock face and the detent plunger, didn't help. The spring for the plunger seems a little tight but maybe that doesn't matter. Any ideas? It's caught me in a couple of matches trying to reload since all of my other guns release properly.
  18. I have not DQ'd anyone yet, though there might have been some times I should have. Good advice from Sarge on not feeling remorse about preventing someone from being shot! Juan, you know that's not productive to the discussion so why instigate? Of course he's not going downrange, but situating yourself in the best position possible to see as much as you can see is just smart on the RO's part.
  19. Like Nebwake said, follows USPSA rules. Appendix A, A.3.5. USPSA rules, 1911 styles only, no race holsters.
  20. Thanks. Never made much sense to me either. No way I would plan on doing it as too much equipment to fly with, but for someone driving to big matches not unthinkable. The one place I could see it coming in handy is like Bamboo said at SC if you are going to be there all practice week. Didnt know how prevalent it was so thought I would ask.
  21. I see people referring to loading their ammo while they are at the match. What kind of presses are they using? Flying or driving with them? Buying powder and primers there? Help explain! Coming down to matches from Alaska its tough to bring enough ammo. I guess the other option is shipping it UPS but that can get expensive too.
  22. Great! Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a great option and way better timimg than March for families and those with school obligations.
  23. Great question. I would love to hear from someone in the know as well for our matches.
