Some people are into drag racing, some Formula 1, some into NASCAR, go carts, baja... some don't like any of them. Everyone likes different things for different reasons. I think it's a funny discussion every time it gets brought up of whether we should change Steel Challenge or not. I like all kinds of shooting, but am more interested in some than others. One of those happens to be SC. I know lots of my friends don't like it near as much as I do. It's an unwinnable discussion and everyone is right in their own mind. Go to the matches you like, don't go to the ones that you don't. Make's no difference to me. I will even go to the ones I don't like as much periodically to help support the clubs and keep the variety and interest level high in myself. To each their own...

I just did a cost comparison of all the coated bullets out there. Narrowed it down to these 4 brands for a variety of reasons. I looked at every brand I could find including coated, plated, jacketed, etc. Cost wise these are the best bargain. Blue Bullets come in at $0.075 per round. Xtremes come in around $0.10 per round when ordered in comparable case quantities with shipping (3000/case for 147s). That can jump up even more depending on where you live since they only ship UPS (no idea why they wouldn't use flat rate shipping).

Advantage Arms mags. Have 6 single stack and 6 double stack so I can use the 1911 or 2011.

I use an Advantage Arms upper on my double stack and it works great. Mags are fairly cheap as well. Conversion is half the price of the tac sol and marvel.

The key is there has to be a grease ring or radius to score. If it hit the target sideways or was a piece of frag it is not scorable on either the target or no shoot. Same goes for either hard cover or soft cover barrels.

If you go with too small a charge and load out real long there is a lot of empty space in the cartridge. You will get uneven lighting of the powder and uneven combustion meaning big variations in velocity and accuracy.

Much more productive use of your time then netflix:)

You can do a lot of visualization if you can't actually shoot. Most top athletes use it extensively. Run through mental rehearsals of whatever you would do in practice. Make it as realistic as possible after doing a little relaxation exercises and focusing on what you want to be seeing. I love doing the steel challenge stages and seeing the center of each plate, good transitions, and five shot strings. Nice thing is you get to do things perfectly, how you want to be doing them. Ingrain good habits. The mind doing them consciously will reprogram the sub conscious mind. Think about how much it helps to visualize your stage plan at the match half a dozen times while you wait for your turn. Now apply that for a couple of hours a week to all of your skills!

STI Steelmaster. Have always shot 125s so really curious as to how the 115s and 147s will feel. Have N310, 700x, and Silhouette and can probably get Titegroup in good quantities to play with. Wish I could get some autocomp but have never seen it here.

Let the load development begin... Thanks for the input. Going to be trying out a little bit of everything with a couple of different kinds of powder. Should be able to come up with something that works good!

Glad I ordered some 115s to try:) I like the idea of the 147s as well with the slower recoil impulse. Interested to see if I prefer the quick snap or slower push. Got some 135s too which could be a good balance between 125 and 147. Can't wait to get them here to start some load development.

Wondering what everyone is shooting. Doing a bunch of load work right now, so I don't have a favorite yet. Why do you like what you have?

Kind of my thoughts. Why not smooth things up. The cleaner they are the slicker they are. Doesn't take any longer to tumble and clean them than it would to polish and clean them.

Thanks all. I've heard of people doing this and thought it might polish them up a little. Not sure if I will try it yet, maybe just some Flitz or something. All I have is a vibratory tumbler so a little worried about the edges. If I had a rotary I don't think I would hesitate.

How many of you tumble your mags to clean and polish them?. Do you protect the lips somehow to keep them from getting dinged up?. Mine all work and I don't want to damage them at all. Thanks

So KC Eusebio told me today he thinks a comp is definitely necessary and he has them on both his rimfire and centerfire guns. Think I will take his word for it!

I don't think the first shot time is the only factor between holster draws and low ready. Missing your grip from a draw on a run or two per stage can also lead to either misses or the need to fix your grip in order to go faster after that. From a low ready you always have the proper grip from the start on every run. I think that plays a bigger part than people think or stop to consider.

What do you mean by the primers getting stuck? Where? Is the primer pickup assembly not picking one up so when you push the lever back up there is no primer to seat? Sometimes that happens to me if it gets a little dirty under the moving part. I have to give a little tug on it a time or two so it goes back just that nth of an inch to allow the next primer to be picked up. If it get's too bad I have to pull the whole primer assembly off and clean under it. Only happens after I load quite a few rounds.
