  1. Sorry I missed you Rich. Should have come and harrased me for a look at it. Very happy with the ASI gun. I've designed a custom curved trigger insert which I'll be getting made up just to try. Love the safety, only issue is it digs into my trigger finger. I've trimmed a fair whack of meat off the right side safety and I'll probably shape it just a little more, other than that it's perfect! Let me know if you still want a mag release paddle. I still have a couple left. Yeah they are 4-40, I can supply the screw.
  2. I had some burst fires after hammer follow on a new gun. Turned out the hammer strut was rubbing on the sear spring and the recoil was bumping it. Mark the spring with some texta and assemble it, rack and dry fire and you may see the texta has worn off where the hammer strut hits the sear spring. I bent my sear spring to give just enough clearance between to prevent touching problem solved.
  3. I tried a number of releases. Even the fairly low STI extended release just wasn't right. I decided to call it quits on spending money to find the right product and just made my own. No matter how tight my grip is I cannot accidentally hit the mag release. When the mag release is pressed it hits the grip which prevents over pressing the release. The surface of this release sits very low, it finishes where the material for the STI release starts. The only other product I would try is one of Dawsons Mo Lo Pro buttons that screw directly into the mag release button and then get shaped to your needs.
  4. Large part because of parts availability and parts pricing. Spent hundreds on importing gear but there is just a huge lack of support here in Oz for them. Also, when I picked up the grip, it just fit perfectly. The STI grip was actually the reason I went with tanfog originally, it just never felt right. Mathews Grip is different and just felt fantastic.
  5. New custom ASI 2011 race gun at the first of the Victorian state team selection matches. Wasn't pushing too hard as I'm still getting used to the new platform coming away from my Tanfoglio. Let me know what you think..
  6. GK refers to the coating on the gun. You either get HC (Hard Chrome) or GK, which is a dark greenish sort of finish. Looks like HC to me but it's hard to tell from the picture. The V12 normally denotes that its an Erik gold custom model, as the standard open gun tops on the tanfogs are a comp'ed barrel wtihout popple holes (holes in the barrel). The Eriks are usually a little shorter in length too. The serial number suggests that it's an older gun. Without seeing it I cannot say whether the price is fair. The Erik gold customs do attract a higher price. https://www.usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=76405 this add here looks to offer more value, but it is a Limited HC with an open top end and not an Erik. 7. It can make a noticeable difference; it's a combination of weight and length. Swing a broom handle from side to side then do it with a short stick. Obviously it's not THAT much. I'm going from a Tanfog race gun, full steel, full dust cover; do an STI style race gun and you can sure feel it. We are running the F1 racecars of the handgun world, so any tiny little extra bit we can get out of our gear is a plus. That said, many shooters have been winning matches with the most unassuming firearms; you have to do your part. Agonizing over these "new style" race guns isn't worth it. Try shooting one and if it feels good go with it. Like EchoTango said, it's not for everyone.
  8. I'm also a fan of some little grub screws on the right side, just fills the holes nicely.
  9. Definitely sounds like the wrong screws. Mine never move, but I do hit them with a drop of blue locktite.
  10. From the Australian 2016 Nationals held last weekend.
  11. Hahaha, Frenchy... Depends on the finish. I like silver on my GK to match slide stop and safety, and silver or black on my HC. Would used some of the scales grips but haven't found anyone to get them to Oz yet.
  12. I run a limited HC open conversion as does the wife. I took both to nationals last year in Darwin and had a massive failure with my primary, so switched to the backup gun. Now I don't go to an away match without it. If nothing else it gives me peace of mind should something go wrong, but really if you have spare parts for all the things that are likely to break you shouldn't need a complete gun as a spare.
  13. I've had the current recoil spring in my gun for probably way longer that I should have. It's throwing brass all over the place and I figured it's time I tune the recoil spring to my style of shooting, so I thought I'd try the DPM recoil reduction system. I've heard mixed reviews about it but figured what the hell. Running a Limited HC Custom with the 3 port comp'ed top on it. PF 170ish. Has anyone run one of these systems in their open guns before? Wonder where a good starting point would be for spring combinations. I could just start at the heaviest and go lighter till it functions properly and feels right, but thought one of you might have one and could save me the time. Jase
  14. Interesting mag release too. Is that a custom thing or did you buy it from somewhere. Some details would be great. Details on the comp would be awesome too.
  15. Might be worth mentioning that if you are shooting in IPSC (vs USPSA), there is a minimum bullet weight of 120gr. Assume there is no limit in USPSA? Jase
  16. I've never understood that concept of removing the slide stop. If pro's don't need them, because they always count rounds and never run dry, what purpose is there to remove them. For those that replace them with a pin only, how does just leaving it there inhibit your shooting where the pin doesn't?
  17. DAA Pouches are fantastic and worth the spend. Come with inserts to fit any mag so they are future proof. Bullets out orientation takes up only the width of the pouch as the mounting point is actually on the side that would face the belt, regardless of bullet direction. I've used the DAA racer (plastic) pouches and they are not quite as good as the race master but well worth it, they too can be mounted bullets out. As far as space saving, I found that running them out used only about 60% of the space that would be used running forwards/backwards. All my rigs now run this orientation and I've never looked back.
  18. BB, How did you get these grips mate? I spoke to Nathan and he said he couldn't ship to Oz? Jase
  19. Remember guys, that DP measure the sight height ABOVE the slide, and not the full sight. What you'll see at CZC is measured as the full sight, not just what appears above the slide.

    Magazines?

Paul Britton at PBA imports will be able to sort you out mate.
  21. I agree that the measurements Dawson have are bloody confusing. I measured my front sight with verniers to make sure it was correct and confirmed with Dawson. I believe the .240 is for the adjustable rears or the TS rear.
  22. I have an Aussie SP01 Shadow (not from CZ custom) with the fixed rear sight. I got the Dawson part number 019-122 and it was a perfect match for the stock sights. It was on before I replaced it though, I just wanted a thinner sight with a fibre that was recessed to eliminate the halo effect. Dawson has a little calculator on their site to help you work out the sight height you need. The one I bought was 0.150 Tall, 0.100 wide. Hope that helps.
  23. What is this new open gun and why have we not seen porn of it yet Baron?
  24. Have you ever had it move Nealio? I had thought about that but was worried 3 screws would decrease the strength and hence zero. I'd even thought about drilling another hole in the frame so I could use all 4 holes and still be back a little further, but there are no smiths around that I'd trust with the tanfo unobtainium frames
  25. I run a Quinn, but I dont have popple holes, just the 3 port tanfo comp. Never gets dirty. I'm quite surprised by the design of the EGD, I get that it's cheaper to manufacture that way, but I would have expected higher quality than that. For what it's worth, I run a Tanfog thumbrest because the Quinn rest just doesn't fit my hands being so far forwards.
