  1. Wes777, I also couldnt find any rules that say this type of grip is/isn't legal for SS. So until I am told they aren't legal i'm going to assume they are.
  2. I'm thinking about shooting Single Stack. Right now it's mainly Limited with the occasional Production shoot. I've got all the gear to shoot Single Stack. But, I've scoured the internet and USPSA rules and I can't find if these types of grips (Pachmayr Rubber Finger Groove grips) are legal or not? See pic below. Two of my 1911's in the pic that I may use have the Pachmayr rubber finger grips. Thanks for your input.
  3. Went to the range yesterday and shot two full mags (17 rounds each mag, 34 rounds total) into two different targets. All shooting was offhand, taking my time and shooting slow from 20 yards (obviously I'm no bullseye shooter). I shot 34 rounds into each target. The first target I used .40 180gr JFP, fps 940, 4.6GR Titegroup (with the flat point, of course). The second target I used .40 180GR TMJ Match, fps 969, 4.7GR Titegroup (with the round nose). The person that loaded these for me measured the FPS by shooting out of a 4.5" barrel Glock 22. I use a SIg X5 L1 with a 5" barrel, so I assume the FPS leaving the barrel of my gun would be a little different than what was actually measured by the person loading the ammo. This is definitely far from scientific and lacking in controlled conditions, but, I did shoot a slightly tighter grouping with the round nose vs the flat nose. Again, all shooting was offhand at 20 yards and it may have just been pure coincidence that I had a better grouping with the round nose. However, with the results I definitely feel confident that by shooting the round nose .40 it won't adversely effect me.
  4. Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm an average skill shooter so it probably won't make a noticeable difference for me. But, if it can get me another 1/2" or so improvement on the occasional 20-25 yard shots it's worth it to me. I've hit No Shoots by just a fraction of an inch. I bought some of the round nose .40s&w from a person in the area that loads and sells ammo (its the actual round in the photo at the beginning of this thread). He has tables set up at all the local gun shows and the ammo I've bought from him in the past has worked great, he does a great job (but it's always been FP). But, I've never tried the .40s&w round nose rounds. I was using a Sig X5 Competition model, and now use an X5 L1, using only FP, and have only had two issues I remember over the last year with feed problems. The X5's eat everything I put in them. I also have a Dawson Precision Competition Ready STI Edge that is somewhat finicky with ammo (again I've only used FP 40). Maybe the RN will help with the issues with the Edge. Here are the specs on the RN .40 ammo I bought (this is exactly what was on the label): 40 s&w (Match) 180GR TMJ Match 4.7GR Titegroup Est Vel 969 OAL 1.128 It definitely puts me easily into Major power factor at 174. I'll post some results with pics with shooting the FP vs the RN as soon as I have a chance to hit the range.
  5. I've only used the flat nose (been using them for quite awhile), but was told the round nose would feed better (which makes sense) but would also be more accurate. I don't know if that is true or not, that is just what I was told. I'm definitely not a ballistics expert. But, if a round nose can offer even the slightest improvement in accuracy, it's worth trying when I shoot Limited Major.
  6. Excluding all other components, what is the advantage/disadvantage of a FMJ flat nose or round nose, for use in USPSA Limited? Is one considered more advantageous than the other?
  7. Blaster113 makes a good point. If I shoot 115gr my P226's shoot low. With 124 I'm dead on. Only tried 147gr once and it seemed fine, too. But, the 115gr is consistently low.
  8. I have two Sig P226 USPSA all stainless steel models as well as a P226 9mm Diamond Plate and a P226 .40s&w bitone. One USPSA model had the Warren Tactical Rear and a 0.180 Dawson FIber optice front sight. It was also shooting "combat" style (as all Sigs are set up to do), but like you also prefer target number 2 style of shooting. The other USPSA model, and the other two P226's all had the Sig rear and front. And all also shot like target 3, the combat style. So, put Warren Tactical Rear sights on all four, put Dawson Fiber Optic 0.170 front sights on all of them, and now they are all shooting as in target 2 and are dead on target. So in regards to the summary spreadsheet you listed above, I absolutely agree with what size Dawson FO front goes with what brand of rear sight. Myself personally I really prefer the Warren Tactical rear sight. But that's mainly because I shoot the P226 USPSA models in Production.
  9. Putting on a standard sized mag release has made all the difference for me. I would regularly drop a mag from the extended length of the competition sized mag release. Haven't done it a single time since I swapped them out.
  10. I owned an EAA Witness all steel wonder finish compact, and currently own an EAA Witness Elite Match. Both outstanding guns for the price. But, if you think you will be competing regularly and for many years, just go with the Limited. It will get you to competition ready action immediately. And wow, every EAA Witness model I've ever shot has been amazingly accurate. Henning and Canyon Creek offer gunsmithing and parts for the EAA/Tanfoglio to take it to the "next level." I initially went the inexpensive mode when I first started competing in USPSA, and now i compete with a Sig X5 Competition .40s&w regularly and occasionally with a Dawson Precision CRP STI Edge. If I would have just started with the X5 or Edge to start with, I would have saved myself several thousand dollars as I got more serious and wanted to be more competitive. I went through a lot of guns and gear to end up where I'm at now. So, going the inexpensive route can often be much more expensive in the long run. But, if you think you will just shoot the occasional club match, then you will be happy with the standard EAA Witness. But based on changes you already want to make to it, my guess is you are looking to be regular and competitive.
  11. I use a Sig P226 USPSA model DA/SA model in Production, and before that I used a Baby Desert Eagle II DA/SA in Production. I tried the XDm9 5.25" (striker fired) for awhile, and it was a great gun, but I much prefer my Sig USPSA so that's what I've gone back to. Trust me, once you get enough trigger time with the DA first shot and pretty soon it becomes second nature. Don't be scared off from a gun that is DA/SA. And I can assure you, as it did for me, learning to master the DA part will make you a much more steady, consistent shooter overall. You have so much more room for unneccesary movement on the DA (flinching, wrist pull, hand squeeze, etc) that once you have it mastered your shooting overall will be rock solid.

    magwell

I had a Para P16-40 Limited (just sold it very recently, fantastic gun, I just had enough guns for Limited and wasn't going to use it) and I added a Dawson NON Ice magwell. Fit perfectly with no fitting required. Thanks to Furyalecto's advice I found out I could run my STI mags in it just fine.
  13. Thanks for the offer. But I think I'll wait a while and see if anyone takes it for full asking price. Not in a hurry to sell.

  14. I would like to see the results of the USPSA Nationals results from Production and Limited (I know Open and Lim 10 are going on right now). When will the results be posted, and where? No, I wasn't a competitor, but would just like to see the results. I am a member of USPSA and when I log onto the website, I can pull up the tab for Nationals, but it doesn't give the results. Is it just too early yet for them to be posted? Do they wait until Open and Limited 10 are also complete before they post? Thanks.

    para p16 magazines

They won't for me either, unless there's still a round in them. Haven't investigated yet. Not sure why, but I don't have that issue. I have 8 STI mags and they all drop free from my Para P16-40 Limited. It was manufactured in 2011, so maybe that has something to do with it vs older models? I don't know, just speculating.
  16. I also use Frog Lube. It is great stuff. After initial use, it makes cleaning the gun again much easier. I also use Fluid Film. Also great stuff and a lot cheaper. But, I think the Frog Lube is a better product than Fluid Film. It's not as "greasy."
  17. Midway USA has them on sale on occasion.

    Para frames

Les Baer used to use their frames for some double stack models he made many years ago. So apparently he thought they were ok. If Les Baer used them that says a lot about the frame.
  19. Interesting looking gun. Can someone fill me in on the details? Who makes it? Thanks.
  20. I have a Sig P226 USPSA model I recently purchased used. They normally come with a Warren Tactical Rear and a Dawson 0.180 tall front. This one, however, had Sig rear and front night sights, not the Warren/Dawson combo. So, I ordered a Warren Tactical Rear and a Dawson 0.180T x 0.125w front sight. It was shooting a little low. So, I removed the 0.180 tall front and installed another Dawson 0.170t x 0.125w front. It's now spot on at 20 yards. I've since read that most everyone that has the Dawson 0.180 tall front with a Warren Tactical Rear they shoot low. And that most replace with a 0.170 or 0.160 tall Dawson front. The Dawson 0.170 tall front is perfect for me.
  21. Ran my first Limited match with the standard P226 mag release installed on my X-5 Competition model. It definitely works better for me than the very extended mag release I swapped out. However, it could stand to be just slightly longer. I think the Grays Guns model, which from my understanding is longer than the standard P226 mag release, and just shorter than the extended X-5 mag release, would be the most ideal. I emailed GGI. I know have five P226's of various models and would buy five of the GGI P226 mag release when they become available again. I'd put it on all of them.
  22. That's a good question. I've been trying to keep up on the new rule changes myself but the more posts I read the more unsure I become about what is and isn't a done deal in Limited.
  23. I own many 1911's from mid price to high price. One of my 1911's is a Ruger SR1911, and two others are a Les Baer Premier II and a Les Baer Custom Concept V. And I love the Ruger SR1911. Great 1911 for the money. But you can't compare a semi-custom 1911 of the quality of a Les Baer to a production 1911 which is the SR1911. Any LB will be far superior to the Ruger SR1911. Again, no offense to the SR1911 as I agree it's an excellent mid-price 1911 and a great value. But, in my opinion the LB's I own were also great values despite the higher price. LB gives you a very high quality 1911 for a very fair price. It's like comparing a Chevy Caprice to a Mercedes E Class. Both excellent cars, but....
  24. That's sexy as hell. I ordered the small patriot model because it's the largest one that will let it fit in the box with the 45ACP frame size. It's going to be my CDP gun. Thanks. Also using Dawson Precision extended basepads that will allow me to get 19 in the mag and added a Pistol Gear Tungsten guide rod for added weight. It's really a great set up for the price vs what a lot of other high end Limited guns cost. And as anyone who has ever shot an XDM 5.25" knows, these guns are incredibly accurate. I shoot a Sig X-5 Competition model in Limited competition, but set this up to be my back up gun should something go wrong with my X-5.
