    Bad weather

How do you guys that live in places with crappy weather do it? This morning's steel match was in the 40's-low 50's with 30mph winds and a little rain, it sucked. Turnout was maybe 12 shooters instead of 60. Most of us were somewhat underdressed for the weather, it shouldn't have been that cold. Couldn't feel my hands very well, it stung to load mags, steel wanted to blow over. My shooting sucked, but at least I have an excuse this time.
  2. Forget the stone grinder wheel, put a (fine or medium) Cratex wheel on one side, and a buffer wheel on the other side; you will never look back. You can buff at 3450 with a 6" wheel, but not great, and the part gets hot very fast.
  3. Correct Now add a question...
  4. PB Baumann they're Swiss, they make excellent: screwdrivers, allen wrenches, punches, and screwdriver bits. Not marketed for firearms, but they have the most parallel flats on their tips compared to the others in my toolbox. I never really cared for the Chapman set, except when required by space limitations.

    Camo Everything

I am waiting on the ghillie bedspreads, she'll never see me coming.
  6. NRA4EVR Question #2 What brand of television set did Homer have as a child?
  7. #1 Genuine GM conversion kit, with everything* you need to suceed *everything except: gun, time, motivation, practice, desire to suceed, and patience #2 Refinement and repitition works for many disciplines other than shooting, however dry-fire practice runs for beer drinking are much less fun #3 oh crap, he's right behind me isn't he?
  8. I have sucessfully used regular old Superglue to repair my skin for years. If it's a clean cut, just push the slit shut and lay a skinny bead along the accidental opening. Flappers glue shut well too. I try to keep it external, avoid "filling in the gap". It lasts about two days, then it peels off and I usually reapply if necessary. I haven't used a Band-Aid in years. I am no doctor, but the few I have asked all said it was fine.
  9. my CZ-75 "kadet" conversion top end has mags that might lend themselves to modification. It's just a liner installed into a limited-length 10 round mag tube. I have thought that one could: take an original capacity tube, do a little grinding on it to make it look like the old tube so the follower will hit the slide stop, weld a homemade extension to the liner, put it together and end up with a fun-sized .22 mag. I am much too lazy to give it a try however.
  10. I never noticed in my first twenty years, that my grandmother begins every sentence with "Say,....." After noticing it one day, it has really irritated me since. My younger sister finally quit using "like" five times a sentence, much to my delight. I am immune to "dude" thankfully
  11. Yesterday I set up a mini "Smoke and Hope" mock up in my living room. Using scaled down aluminum plates and an airsoft gbb pistol. FUN FUN FUN. I went through at least 200 BB's in no time flat. (pieces of those things are everywhere now, they break when hitting the plates) I would like to rig the simulated stop plate with a sensor so I can actually time the runs, but I have no idea how to do such. (any links or tips?) I am looking forward to letting some non-shooting friends give it a try. It should be much less intimidating than real shooting, and they might get an idea of what I spend my Sunday mornings doing at steel matches. Trying to explain what a steel match is, hasn't worked very well so far to convey the experience to non-shooting friends just yet.
  12. The long sleeve T shirt, for those times when you want to look ever so slightly more formal than you would with a regular T shirt. But it doesn't have that cool silkscreened logo that magically transforms a $2 cotton rag into a $20 fashion statement, so you gotta wear you trendy T over the long sleeved one.
  13. The feeling I get when I am "on" when you pleasantly surprise yourself by exceeding your own expectations. It is just much more satisfying when I get that from shooting, compared to say golf or bowling. That and the people
  14. Was getting .23's consistantly switched to hold then release mode getting .11's but can't break into the .09's got one lucky accidental release for a 0
  15. Thanks fellas. It is much more clear now. Hit factor is the number and percents are just based off that, relative to the best local shooter and more importantly, best shooters out there. Yep, they accidently scored me as major, not minor, so there is some point inflation. Calculating HHF for that stage from somebody else's posted score, and taking into account the extra points, I figure that I scored middle C class.
  16. I shot my first USPSA match last saturday, I normally just do some steel shooting. one of the stages was a classifier. I don't understand how they do the rankings, or even what the numbers mean. Anybody got a quick explanation or link to one? They posted results for that stage in both "overall" and then for each subgroup, I was in "limited", but the % was different between the two. Here's what was posted on the results page: overall for that stage: KORY 12 U Limited 66 0 16.79 3.9309 58.2931 77.72% limited for that stage: KORY 12 U Limited 66 0 16.79 3.9309 71.8997 95.87% I understand the points, penalties, time, and points/time, but what are the last two numbers? Thanks fellas.
  17. I don't think there is IPSC on sat, cowboys have the range I think I heard last week. There is an all steel SSA match in norco on Sunday.
  18. Thanks fellas. I just wanted to be sure everybody didn't say that I was wasting my time with this platform, and changing to a full race 1911 is an absolute necessity to be competetive. I like the platform, it works, I have confidence in it, and do pretty well with it. But I still get told very frequently that I "need to step up in equipment" I am glad most of you disagree, it's much cheaper to stick with what I allready have.
  19. The gun does fit me well, so far as it feels good in the hand, better than any other pistols I have shot. Perhaps that is familiarity as much as it is a fitment issue. Groups size: At the indoor range, if I slow fire freestyle without using a rest, I get baseball sized 20 round groups at 50 feet. The gun has never once malfuctioned during a match. I did get one stovepipe once while shooting unsupported weak hand, probubly my fault. So what's the advantage of the multi-thousand dollar setups vs. the $400 gun I have been using?
  20. I have been involved in steel shooting for about two years now, my skills have progressed quite a bit. I shoot a stock CZ-75B that had a trigger job and target sights added (boy that sure helped a lot). I keep getting told by better shooters that my gear is limiting me from progressing. I also hear the opposite from some shooters, that it's all about the shooter, and that the gear doesn't play a very big role. How much does one's pistol choice limit their shooting? I like the fit of my gun, the only complaint is the mag release is a tad too far to hit with my strong thumb without minor adjustement to my grip during reloads. I don't know much about getting a gun set up to shoot flat, or anything about load development, as I shoot factory 9mm loads currently.
