  1. I've got a small separated garage that I have access to so room isn't the issue. I'm looking to get a good CNC set up for gunsmithing my personal collection. Nothing huge but I'd like to be able to work on a full size 1911 and possibly ar parts
  2. Within a tighter budget which would be a better choice for a hobbyist to get a cnc mill set up the grizzly or little machine shop? This thread has really sparked my interest and now I need to start saving up.
  3. Dhart you could always just make a plug for the end with some delrin bar stock the right diameter and thread it yourself. Cost wise probably the same after finding the right material and the die to make it work, but tinker factor is up there plus you be able to say you've made part(s) for your own gun. Haha
  4. thazlett- What is the reason you want an end cap only, is the competition limited to only 8 being allowed in the gun at any point or length of mag tube? If its just a restriction in capacity could you just get a plug that will limit you to only being able to fit 8 in the gun at any given time, that way you won't have to worry about getting a separate cap.
  5. Has anyone tried a modded 870, I just gave mine a little smoothing job around the loading port and it loads almost as good as my versa. And it loads weak hand faster than the slp I used in Texas. Good to know I don't actually need a nova for heavy metal.
  6. Nope. External mod to the trigger makes it illegal for production. But you are good for limited and then you can put on a magwell and stipple the crap out of it.
  7. Had a great time at my first match, was a little wigged out hearing how many of the squads had dq's but we all made it through with smiles on our faces. It was cool to meet new people and we had a great squad. Thanks to the ro's for putting in so much time to help everyone get through the weekend safely. And I don't know if anyone else ran a go pro or some other sort of on body mounted camera but that shoot house stage turned out awesome on the head mounted to pro. Thanks again for a great match. Thanks again to frank for the use of the cart and for ro-ing.
  8. What!?! You must have wrists of steel to be rocking B with 180 power 40 cal.
  9. The 357 sig bullets worked fine in my m&p9 pro the accuracy was roughly the same (head box at 20yds but I'm not patient) as the 124 JHP stuff both Montana gold. Haven't been brave enough to put them through the race gun yet I don't want to leave that little of the bearing surface in the case just yet. I'll finish off the last 1000 ish of the 124's before I develop a new load with the 125's.
  10. So what I'm hearing is if I only need nine shots to hit I should bring at least 20 on my belt... Check!
  11. That's basically where I'm at now. I have done well with 1-4 pretty much since I started shooting 3-gun and I'm just seeing a trend of more and more power. I was just curious to see if anyone has tried an 8x scope and never used it all the way up to 8. I get the feeling that 8x will be the ceiling, but who knows.
  12. At what point does the cost/weight/overpowered sight begin to make a scope not worth it for 3/multigun? I like the idea of a 1-6 scope and all the way out to 5/600 yards the extra power is really nice. But now with so many 1-8x scopes being talked about and developed, where will the line be drawn? I am trying to decide where I want to stop, weight isn't going to be a huge issue since I run a relatively light rifle as is and I'm a bigger guy so I can handle an extra 1/2 lb or so for a more powerful set of glass on top. But I can't really tell where I want to stop with the magnification. My home range generally doesn't try much beyond 200 with the occasional 300 shot or two. But when going out of state for a big one where it is par for the course to have several different arrays pushing past 300 and a few at 500 and beyond. So, do I go ahead and go with the "Internet hero standard" 1-6x or bump up to the extra magnification of a 1-8x or wait for something even more powerful to come out and see if that is where its at? At what point is so much magnification a hindrance rather than a help?
  13. Man, I wish I would have known this two weeks ago when I got all my stuff ready. Looks like I'll be gaming my firearm selection a lot more now. Haha. Also, I don't know if any of you out there are getting excited but I'm pretty excited right now! Cannot wait to get to take my first shots of my first big competition, on my first shooting trip during the first vacation I've taken to Texas! Lots of firsts for me, hopefully they're all good, I just have to remember to slather on the ol' SPF albino whole I'm down there.
  14. Hey now, I have 3 m&p's and I love them more and more each day especially since I don't have an Austrian wrist. I will say that the accuracy leaves something to be desired. But at the same time I was dinging a US popper at 100 yd consistently with my m&p9 pro.
  15. I believe the reasoning was due to its manner in which the striker is released. Where glocks and m&p's have some rearward travel during the trigger pull. Whereas the xd is more of a straight release of the striker like a single action firearm. It's not "cocking" and releasing in the same pull. I can see it not changing unless the company changes it since the gun as defined by the manufacturer is a single action pistol therefore an organization classifying which firearms are allowed in different divisions by action type it would be logical and prudent to defer to the manufacturers specs even if its commonly believed to be otherwise as to avoid others attempting to bend the rule around to be able to use other "close but not really" guns. Just like some of the idpa rules for procedures can be frustrating its in there for a reason and still must be adhered to as to not incur pelalty.
  16. Taran tactical all the way, same cost and better construction/concept. Tool less take down and still fit all the SSS magwells. Plus I don't think they have the same follower issue having to fit it so it goes all the way down and doesn't hang up
  17. Wow, that looks cheap. Not a fan. I'll stick with my old recoil master til it's kaput and then full length it is.
  18. Depending on how serious the guys are that you shoot with, you'll be fine using the 45 in cdp, I am in the same category with my selections and I really like my 1911 with a bull barrel so I just shoot it. The guys don't bug me about it since they know I'm not shooting idpa to be competitive in that sport, it's just for the trigger time on my 1911 and to shoot more. But if you're wanting to start participating in bigger matches, the xd is a great option. But if it were me and at the range I shoot at regularly, cdp is where I'd be at.
  19. You can safely shoot slugs all the way up to modified choke. I've heard of people going heavier on the choke and still shooting slugs but I've also seem a thin wall choke get bulged with improved mod. So the short answer is yes you should be good with slugs through that barrel.
  20. I'm going off other people's information here, and hopefully someone can correct me if I'm off, but i believe the hierarchy of chokes is roughly: Spreader, cylander, skeet 1, skeet 2, Improved cyl, light mod, mod, improved mod, full, extra full (I may have the skeets out of position but they're roughly improved cylander) My guess would be that you have a fixed choke of either skeet 1 or 2. Which would be fine for beginning 3-gun so you can get a feel for it. Make sure to ask lots of questions of the other shooters at your local club/range. Just about everyone is more than willing to help a shooter new to 3-gun I know my range buddies have helped me a lot over the last couple of years.
  21. Haha, funny you say that. I'm butchering my 1100 and making if a Franken-open shotty since I bought my versamax. Looking back I would rather have gone benelli when I started (versamax wasn't well known or widely available) then just started squirreling away the pennies for an akdal or saiga when I wanted to make the transition. Live and learn, then buy three more guns. Haha
