  1. Nobody mentions the Bobby Carver triggers...I know they're more expensive (up near $200,) but does anyone have any experience with them? An extra $90 for a better trigger that you'd use for years to come seems to be money well spent - if that would be the case.
  2. One thing I'm learning is that whenever an experienced and higher level shooter says he sees something, even though it seems impossible to me that he could be seeing that every shot with as quick as he's shooting, I should take him at his word. It's amazing how much you can do for each shot with it looking to an observer like you're just pointing and pulling the trigger. I can't see everything people are telling me I should be seeing, but I can see alot more right now than I could when I was first told what I should be seeing. Right now I'm not seeing the sight lift when a shot breaks - it's like I can only see it while it's in the rear notch, it disappears, then it reappears in the rear notch again. I expect I'll eventually be able to see it move up out of the rear notch if I run drills trying to figure out how to do that.
  3. Thanks! How many grains was your buddy using with the 124 gr moly bullet?
  4. Anybody have any load information for Solo 1000 with a 125 gr lead bullet? Accurate's website says 2.9-3.7 grains...but even at 3.7 grains they show 1007 fps, which would just *barely* make minor power factor of 125. I loaded up and shot some 125's with 3.2 grains and they shot great - much softer than what I have been shooting (W231 4.2 grains.) Then again, I likely wasn't making power factor with this load, and when I get to a load making power factor, may not shoot as soft... Thanks!
  5. Anybody know when we can expect these to be widely available?
  6. Thank you for the replies...I was worried that it was just gonna go 'bang!' with no warning. I always stop when something doesn't feel right...so while I'll still be careful with the sorting, I'm not going to be terrified of setting a primer off. Thanks again.
  7. I just recently started reloading .45 so that I can shoot single stack. Most of my brass is large primer...but I've got a significant amount of small primer brass, too. Alot of times when I go to the range and pick up other people's brass I end up with some small primer brass...I separate them from the large primer brass, so I *shouldn't* have any issues. I'm also checking each piece of brass before it goes into the shell holder/press... However, if by chance a piece of small primer brass sneaks into my large primer brass, I've got the press setup for large primers, I don't catch it just before putting the brass into the shell holder, and I end up with a large primer being pressed into a small primer hole, is it certain that I'll end up setting off a primer?
  8. Okay I'll try that...thank you! Gonna go to the range tonight and do some drills with this.
  9. I have read that pushing and pulling your hands is no good for action pistol shooting...what about using your pecs and front deltoids to force the palms together (getting the sensation that you're at the top of a dumbbell fly exercise?) I think I've read someone recommend this before but do not remember who it was (or whether it was some internet goofball.) I'm very slow compared to other shooters and it's because 9/10 times, when I first point my gun at a target, the front sight is not in the rear notch and I've got to make adjustments with my wrists. The 1 time that the front sight is in the rear notch I'm surprised and don't let the shot go right away (so used to it not being there.) It *seems* like a slight pressing of my hands together on the gun, using the muscles of my chest, automatically lines the front sight up in the rear notch. However, I've only fooled with this doing dry-fire...and on a different day maybe this slight upper body squeeze won't have the same affect (i.e., could have been something I was doing without realizing it that was causing the front sight to line up and not the slight inward squeeze.)

    OPEN GLOCKS

So is the consensus that, if you were to build an open Glock and only cared about shooting major, that the 34 would be as good as or better than the 17?
  11. My 85C is fitted with the Cajun Gun Works Ultra Light Kit and Hammer Kit 3 (if you order, make sure he knows you're shooting an 85...I think he's got to grind down the hammer a little bit on the right side so it clears the slide in the back.) I'm a new shooter and the only comparison I can make to this gun is a Glock 34 with competition spring kit and Ghost Rocket connector...but I'm extremely pleased with the gun. Everyone that has asked me to handle the gun comments about how good the trigger is. The only thing I don't like is that there's alot of takeup in SA mode - my understanding is that's just something you have to live with in a DA/SA gun and frankly when the buzzer goes off I do not notice it at all and I think the gun could shoot much faster than my skill level dictates right now. I was concerned about having a DA pull on my first shot (as opposed to the striker fired Glock,) but the DA pull isn't bad at all - I haven't missed a shot with it and I don't think it slows me down at all. And CGW's service is excellent - they got me product all the way to Pittsburgh PA in like 2 days...plus the owner answers emails immediately with informative replies. I installed all of the CGW parts myself, and I'm certainly no gunsmith - would've been very easy except that I kept trying to put it back together with the sear cage upside down (that should give you an idea of ow little I know about gunsmithing and that if I can do it, anybody can do it.) I do have to use Federal primers otherwise I get about 1 in 20 light strikes (and I'm using the heavier of the two springs that come in the Ultralight Kit.)
  12. Is this IFG group currently importing Tanfoglio's into the US or are they still working on it? I went to their website and see all kinds of nice stuff in their catalog (the Open Eric and Limited Eric,) but I've never seen any of these guns online (and I don't see many, if any, Tanfoglio race guns online - even the regular Gold Team or Limited.)

    OPEN GLOCKS

I saw some pretty long 2011 type open guns this weekend...can't imagine that a 34 with a compensator on it would be much, if any, longer that those that I saw. As it was explained to me, the 17 is more versatile while the 34 would be mainly suited toward major power factor loads.
  14. If you use the side way mount you do not have to lower the port. There is nothing for the empty case to hit or catch on. Thank you...I'm going to have to read up on the disadvantages to the sideways mounted C-More - figure there have to be significant disadvantages otherwise more of you guys would be running them.
  15. You have to lower the ejection port with the carver, but not with the SJC sideways mount, correct?

    OPEN GLOCKS

I just want to re-iterate - none of those 'complaints' about open Glocks were my statements. I just tried to get the people that were telling me that open Glocks are a waste of time to explain, specifically, why they believed that to be the case so that their points could either be rebuffed or accepted as a short-coming of the open Glocks. I guess when someone was talking about "cycling fast" they were talking about the slide coming back and another round being chambered...basically saying that the open Glock cannot be shot as fast as an STI shot-to-shot. But if it keeps up with KC Eusebio I'm sure it can keep up with me :-)
  17. 38 super, as I understand it, is alot more expensive to load for...mainly because of the brass (9mm brass is very plentiful.)

    OPEN GLOCKS

I don't know much about open guns (other than that the STI's are in the $4-$5K range and the Glocks are in the $1K-$2K range.) I've had multiple open shooters say something to the effect of "don't waste your time with an open Glock" but didn't pick up on any specifics as to why they believe open Glocks can't run with STI's. So I asked for specifics today...here's what I heard from the guys that think open Glocks are not of the same capability as the STI's: - Glock will never cycle as fast as an STI...when that was said, a certified Glock armorer jumped in and said he completely disagreed - he said he could get a Glock to cycle every bit as fast as an STI...then another guy chimed in and said you could make a Glock cycle so fast it would turn into an automatic and you'd have to take it apart to get it to stop (not sure what that really meant) - Glocks are too light and the recoil from shooting something like 9 major won't be as manageable as a heavier gun running major - Glock triggers will never be as 'nice' as an STI trigger Seems to me that 'nice' on a trigger is subjective, and if a Glock armorer says he can get a Glock to cycle as fast as an STI, that just leaves the weight issue. (But like I said, I'm just starting to learn about open guns...I'm trying to figure out whether to build an open Glock out of my 34 or save for a while and buy an STI.)

    Slide handle?

http://stores.sjcguns.com/Categories.bok?category=SJC+Components%3AButtons+and+Rackers I think it mounts where your rear sight goes...so I only think this is useful if you've got a red dot sight installed...
  20. If you are a guy looking to get an open gun, and you tend to like EAA and CZ products, how far away from having a highly competitive open gun if you bought a Gold Team? $1,800 for the gun...is it just a sight (and of course mags and holster) that you need and you're ready to run? Looking to have an open gun in 9mm that can shoot major and minor with just a little bit of change over. I understand the STI's are in the $4K range with sight...didn't know if the Tanfoglio's end up in that same neighborhood once you get everything you need to run competitively.

    OPEN GLOCKS

Well I dont seem to have any trouble beating shooters with STI / SVI and SPS nearly every time out !..................Anybody else ? The better question is, could you beat your own score if you were shooting an Open STI instead of an Open Glock? Yeah that's what I was getting at...I'm sure you guys can beat others shooting STI's, but before a shot is fired, are you at a disadvantage for shooting the open Glock gun? The reason I don't shoot open at all is the buy in cost...I like Glocks alot, and would be perfectly happy with one...but not if I knew my times were slower than they could otherwise be. I'd love to have a 9mm open gun that could shoot minor or major...

    OPEN GLOCKS

Are you Glock open guys at a disadvantage relative to STI open shooters? I mentioned making a Glock open gun at a steel match this weekend and was told, by a guy that had a Glock open gun and had since switched to an STI, that it'd be a disadvantage to run a Glock. I'm hopeful that isn't true.
  23. Are you going to shoot that in USPSA limited?
  24. I like it very much. It's only got the CGW ultralight kit, some grip tape on the front and backstrap, CZ Custom aluminum grips (blue wasn't my first choice but it turned out, I think, to look pretty good,) and CZ Custom fiber optic front sight (the one meant to work with the stock adjustable 85 combat rear sight.) CGW hammer kit "3" is going to go in in a few weeks or less. I haven't used it in a match yet - have only used it in practice, and for lack of being used to it yet, I'm a bit slower (but more accurate) with it than the Glock 34. I believe it is going to prove to be a better competition pistol than my Glock 34. Trigger already feels better than the Glock 34. I'm very happy with it.
