  1. This isn't a Match or Limited - it's the "Steel" full sized Witness, which I understand is the most basic version. Front sight is definitely part of the slide and would only come out if cut/machined off. I don't want this to sit in my safe because of how well it performs...I'll call a few gunsmiths to see if they can do anything with it. Thanks, Dan
  2. I've got a Witness Steel in .40...the front sight is just a part of the slide. I never intended to use it as a competition pistol...but the trigger feels so damn good and I shoot it well (got a CZ on the hope that the trigger is similar.) I would have to guess that there's no way to have the slide machined to accept a fiber optic front sight, or anything like that...am I right about that?

    85 combat or 75b?

Ordered one last night...place I ordered from said they had two in stock, which is what prompted the post (I had been checking online dealers for a while and hadn't seen many 85C's or 75B's.) Hopefully I'll have it within a week. Thanks for the replies! Dan

    85 combat or 75b?

85 Combat it is! Sounds cooler, too. Any issues with getting one in satin nickel for action pistol matches? Figure there is no issue with that since I see alot of 1911's in stainless...just don't think I've seen anyone in production with anything but a black gun (almost all Glocks...only been to two matches so far.)

    85 combat or 75b?

I'm not going to be able to afford a Shadow anytime soon, and I want a steel option to my polymer Glock 34 - so am I better off with the 85 combat or 75b for USPSA action pistol? The idea is for me to eventually put a fiber optic front site on it and get the trigger worked on, and then just have fun with it as I learn the game of action pistol. Anybody able to make a recommendation? Seems like I can order the 85 combat immediately...regular 75b (without the decocker, which as I understand it is no good for my purposes) may take a while (can't find it anywhere online.) Thank you, Dan
  6. A thought from someone who isn't a good shooter but has alot of experience in the gym moving heavy weight - imbalances often cause injuries. Do some work moving your fingers in the opposite direction as a trigger pull - hold your hand in such a way that all of your fingers and thumb are touching (like you are about to start the hand gesture you'd do to illustrate a person running their mouth too much,) wrap multiple gum bands around your fingers/thumb around the nail area, and extend your fingers and thumb (i.e., open up your hand against resistance.) This has helped me overcome golfers elbow and other hand pain issues.
  7. I have a Glock 34 with the factory sights and I shot in my first 'match' this past weekend. I feel like, with the Glock factory sights, I can see the white dot through the rear sights and yet, because it isn't perfectly in the center of the rear sight, my shot can be off center. I'd like to try it to where I KNOW that if I see that front sight clearly through the rear sight that I'm lined up well. So I'm thinking I'd like my front and rear sights to be more narrow, especially for longer shots (I really struggled shooting steel that was far away.) I'm seeing Warren Tactical/Sevigny sells a "narrow notch" rear sight... Anybody have any thoughts on using narrower front and rear sights and whether there are any options other than the Warren Tactictal/Sevigny sights?
  8. I think if you're the kind of guy that just wants to shoot a bunch of different guns, trying to force yourself to stick to one gun is never going to leave you happy unless you end up naturally wanting to stick to one gun (maybe because it becomes obvious to you that it's the one you're best with.) Life's too short and this is all for fun. I'm new to this and I'm going to have fun with it anyway I can. If it turns out that I start getting real good at it then I'll worry about making a decision as to whether to focus on one gun. Beyond this, I got into this with a goal of being good with pistols (rather than just owning guns that sit in drawers) - I don't know how getting good with one pistol and not experiencing others with the little bit of pressure that a match brings fits into that.
  9. For a shooter just starting out, wouldn't it make sense to shoot as slow as you have to to get all Alpha's? That's what I started to do in my first USPSA match this past weekend...just made sense to me that if I worried about speed as opposed to having a good sight picture and calling my shots that I'd be skipping alot of the learning of fundamentals that I need. (I tried to go faster in the third stage I was in - I feel like I missed out on some experience time doing the right things.) I figure that if I go out there blasting faster than I can get a great sight picture it's just gonna be luck if I get good hits...
  10. I'm new to action pistol shooting. I've got two all steel 'major' caliber pistols and two polymer 9mm pistols. I shoot the steel 'major' pistols much better than the two polymer 9mm pistols - with the steel pistols, using the front sights, the shots go where the front sight points...the off target shots make sense based on what I'm seeing with the front sights. With the polymer 9mm pistols, I can't hit the side of a barn when trying to move with a little bit of speed despite having what seems to be the same sight picture as I'm getting with the steel pistols. Is there a common reason why I might be shooting a steel .40 or .45 pistol much better than a polymer 9mm? Does this say anything about my shooting that I can learn from? (They are all supposed to be good pistols - a .45 1911, a .40 EAA Witness Steel, a 9MM M&P Pro, and a Glock 34.) Thank you!
  11. Hmmm...that's something to consider I guess...the plastic ones like the Oakley M Frames do come around the side some...now I have to think this through some more.
  12. Thanks for the responses, guys. The Randolph Rangers are about 155 with three lenses...that's cheaper than I'd have gotten the Decots for...so unless anyone else chimes in, that's the direction I'll go.
  13. I want to get a pair of metal rimmed/framed shooting glasses with interchangeable lenses (obviously to use in different lighting conditions.) I see the Decot glasses and I'll buy them if there are no other options...price is kinda high, so figured I'd ask about similar options before ordering.
  14. The .40 is pretty snappy...I'm going to suck when I do my first match, so I was thinking maybe I shouldn't go looking for additional challenges :-) On the other hand, maybe dealing with the heavier recoil would make me a better shooter in the long run. I don't reload (yet) so I'm just shooting production loads, but cost isn't a factor - I'm getting boxes of 100 rounds in .40 for $25, whereas 9mm is only $5 less. I do see 9mm conversion kits on EAA's website...but I'd be in about $300 it seems and if I can find a whole gun in stock somewhere I'd only be in about $150 more than that, I think. I'll call EAA tomorrow and find out what the 9mm conversion actually comes with (don't know if it comes with a magazine...I would think it would, but I shouldn't assume.) I do have a Glock 34 that shoots 9mm, but kinda wanted to shoot a Witness or 75b instead.
  15. Following your link, I just checked that site - they don't have any either.
  16. I got lucky and bought a Witness Steel .40 a few weeks back (it was "used" and I got it for $300...it looked like it had never been fired.) I'd like to get one in 9mm to use in USPSA production - problem is I can't find one online (and I've been to alot of local gun shops and haven't seen them there, either.) Is there any kind of trick to getting a 9mm Witness? Anybody know of any online sellers that might have one of these in stock? (I google searched and every retailer that came up was out of stock.) Thanks! Dan

    SIRT pistol

I just got one about a week ago (the Pro version.) I'm a new shooter, and I have limited access to more than a typical range (where they don't let you come out of the holster and I can't shoot outside of my lane.) I was advised against getting this because I was told it could screw with me learning a front sight focus - I'm finding the opposite to be true: I can definitely see where the laser is hitting without focusing on the target, and if I am not front sight focused I'm not accurate which reminds me to get back to the front sight focus. I'm getting a ton of practice in and it doesn't even feel like training - I'm watching tv and I pick it up and do a little practice...I wake up and do a little practice. For a new shooter like me that doesn't live in an area where he can go right into his back yard and shoot I think this thing is invaluable. Obviously since I'm a new shooter I don't know all of the intricacies of action pistol, so I have no idea whether this is a great tool for the experienced/excellent shooter. But as a new shooter I feel like I've learned more in a week with this thing than I'd learned in the two months before without it.
  18. I just got a Blade Tech DOH holster for my EAA Witness. I've only been to two action pistol 'practices' so I'm very green...and last time I got told about allowing the muzzle to cross my weak hand when I was unholstering (because my previous holster/belt wasn't working real good for me - it was like the gun was getting stuck and I had to hold the holster with my weak hand when unholstering.) So I put this DOH holster on a belt and it points the muzzle right at my leg - is that how it is supposed to be? Or should it be angled slightly to the front or back? (I can see this has the ability to adjust to point the muzzle slightly forward or back.) I'm sorry if this is a really dumb rookie question...I just want to be safe above all in doing this action pistol stuff - I know there are alot of people that want to take guns out of our hands and they're just itching for an incident or two to point at to support their cause. I don't want to be the fool that gives them an example to use, so I figured I'd rather get yelled at on a forum than risk anything. I did read through the first two pages and saw no answer to my question. Thank you!
