  1. Kurt, Any update on your V22 upper? Is it running well and would you recommend one? I'm thinking about getting one. Thanks.
  2. I was 19 and it was a Marlin .22 lr rifle with a tube magazine. At 7, I gave my son a Rossi Matched Pair - a single shot .22 lr and .410 combo. Great little long arm.
  3. I took my slide racker off (during my short stint in Open) for that very reason. Mine pulled my left thumbnail 1/2 off. OUCH, S**t, etc.
  4. I really liked Mike Tyson when he first came up in the heavyweight division. He was a disciplined, fearsome fighter. He was also very good for the sport IMO. I still remember him crushing Michael Spinks in less than 30 seconds. Unfortunately, Tyson is a prime example of the old adage: “lie down with dogs and you’ll wake up with fleas.” After Cus Dimato - his adopted father and trainer died, Tyson got bad advice, bad training, bad friends and woke up with fleas. He became broke, $40 million in debt, a women beater, a drinker and ultimately – a loser. He had the potential to be one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. He threw it all away and is nothing but a sad story and footnote in history.
  5. Well, I bought the AA .22 conversion and it's great. Other than having some lead build up problems with Reminton Thunderbolts Thundrbolts and leading, it's been accurate and reliable. It's fun to shoot plates and practice things like shooting steel on the move.
  6. Follow up: After soaking the barrel in a small lake of Hoppe's for 36 hours and using a hammer to get the brush through the bore, I eventually got all the lead out. I took it to the range and shot 300 or so rounds of Federal high velocity 36 grain HP out of it. It shot fine and did not lead up. I don't think I'll ever shoot Thunderbolts again.
  7. Anyone tried the Dillon Cactus League Slide as a carry holster? I like the high rise slide design and it's only $24. Thx. Dillon CLS
  8. There's no advantage. I just had all those seperate parts and put them together. It ended up as a great gun.
  9. You can't shoot a ported barrel in Production (you'd be in Open) and you can't shoot it anywhere in IDPA. BTW - my LTD gun is a Franken-Glock. The frame is from a G35, the slide is from a .357 sig (G31 I believe) and the barrel from a G22. None of the #'s match, of course.
  10. Yep, but this is not the Glock barrel. It's a stainless barrel for a .22 LR conversion upper
  11. Yep - I think Rem just had a bad run, but I'm not the only one having this issue. It sounds like your lot is fine. I WON'T be shooting mine out of any other .22 though
  12. Moderators - I'm not sure where this thread fits, so please feel free to move it. WARNING - Remington Thunderbolt .22lr I recently shot 200 rounds of this ammo out of my brand new Advantage Arms ("AA") .22 lr conversion for my Glock 22. At first it shot dead on. After 200 rounds, it was all over the place. I called AA and told them what happened. They said that they've had EXTREME leading with recent Rem Thunderbolts - as quickly as 50 rounds - to the point where they can't get a bore brush down the bore. I looked in my barrel and saw the worst leading I've ever seen. When I tried to put a patch of Hoppes down it, it got stuck in the barrel and I had to hammer it out. I can't even get a cleaning rod down the gun. I taped up the muzzle end of the barrel and rigged it so it stood on end. I then poured Hoppes down the barrel and I will let it soak for 24 hours or so. I hope that will loosen up the lead. Two questions and one statement: 1. Don't shoot Rem Thunderbolts! 2. What can I do to get the lead out since I can't get a rod down the bore? 3. If I can't get the lead out, should I contact Remington and ask them to make it right? Thx.
  13. My mother-in-law lives in the city limits in San Diego. The street shoppers (a/k/a homeless people) roam the alleys and take all recycleables, etc that are not locked up. No one really objects and everyone seems to know the "rules."They generally don't cause any problems, just looking for stuff to turn into cash. For instance, if you have furniture or clothes you don't want, just leave it in the alley and it will be gone by noon. It's actually a nice part of town, where a 2/2 townhouse costs $400k+.

    Lead Exposure

After my lead got high, I've resigned myself not to shoot indoors any more.
  15. Well, I can only shoot .22 Colibris (VERY light .22 lr loads), pellet guns, BB guns or airsoft. The Colibris are SO light that I'm actually surprised they made it 25 yards with only about 1 inch of drop. We have big, wooded yards, but I do live in a subdivision. IMO, any shooting is good shooting. It's actually a good excercise in the timeless basics: sight alignment and trigger control. You can pick up those little swinging groundhogs for less than $20 and you can hear i when you hit. No walking or pasting. BTW - I AM a redneck!
  16. Plinking in the backyard . . . My 9 year old son has a Rossi “matched pair” – a single shot .22LR and .410 combo (you switch out the barrels). This is a tiny long arm that’s tons of fun to shoot. For comparison, I put the Rossi next to my son’s play coach gun. The Rossi's on top When I shoot Aguila .22 Colibri’s out of the .22 barrel, it’s quieter than a BB gun. Today I took a little steel ground hog and stuck it in the ground about 25 yard out my basement door. Here’s the ground hog: Here’s what it looks like at 25 yards (the camera makes it look farther away for some reason). It's to the left of and behind the trampoline, along that ridge - the little white bump. I shot offhand while standing in the door of the basement. The best 10 shot string gave me 4 hits, with most 10 shot strings giving me 2-3 hits. It’s hard to hit to say the least! I think I need to thin the front sight a little. I shot about 100 rounds while taking a break from working in the home office. It’s just good clean fun.
  17. +1 Although Joe's triggers do rock . . .
  18. Stingerjg - any updates on your trigger?
  19. I love the Win Defender, althought it's a 7+1 set up. That's the downside. The safety is also in a less-than-optimal place. For $200, thgough, it's hard to got wrong. I like the pump action of the 1300 better than the 870, as well as the lighter weight. Either way, you're not going to be competative with a pump gun as compared to shooters with an auto and equal skill. So, I'd get the $200 1300 and shoot it for fun to see if you like the sport. If you do - keep it and get an auto for matches. If you don't - then keep it for an all-around fun little SG.
