  1. Well this was likely a double charge by me. This happened about six months ago. I was loading 9mm on my 650 for a long time and then started loading some 40 on my 550. I guess I didn’t manually index on a round. I was not hurt, although it felt like someone hit my hand with a crowbar. I had some fine shrapnel in my right hand, but it was small and not deep. My Spyderco got it all out in 5 minutes. The barrel is now stuck in the slide and won’t come out. The slide is slightly bulged at the ejection port. The frame is fine and in use with another upper. The mag was completely blown out of the gun and all parts were disassembled – but I put it back together with a new follower and spring and it runs fine. One note: ALWAYS WERE EYE PROTECTION WHEN SHOOTING. I felt shrapnel hit my glasses. If I didn’t have glasses, I’m sure I would not have a functional right eye.
  2. Thanks to Bruce for posting his views on the Amidon ruling. Bruce's posts have been reasoned and measured. You may not agree with him, but Amidon does - and that's what matters. I can see both sides of the argument. I took my Vanek trigger out yesterday. I'll put it into my backup Limited G22. I'd rather shoot Production with the Vanek trigger, but it is what it is. I'm certainly not mad at Amidon, Bruce or USPSA for making a call under under the rules. Time to go practice with my stock trigger
  3. Flex - I believe that SA offers the extended Bomar release in factory guns. Maybe Bob H. will chime in with some more info.
  4. I've never shot a 24, but I prefer my G22 to the G35 for LTD. It may be my imagination, but it feels lighter and like it cycles faster. The sight radius difference is a non-issue to me. YMMV. The Vanek trigger in not an issue in LTD. However, I'm taking out my Vanek trigger on my G17 Production gun later today . . . Rocket35 - that mag well looks great! Is it light?
  5. To me this part of the earlier ruling disallows the Barsto release since it isn't manufactured by SA or the IM Metal factory in Croatia???? Maybe, maybe not...... However I THINK SA offers it on some factory guns as an option - which would make it legal. Anyone agree/disagree?
  6. I shoot two matches a month at clubs where John Amidon shoots. I think I'll make my gun righteous. I shoot every match with Bill Seevers and if I knew something was illegal, I would not use it.
  7. I think that sums it up nicely. I too will have to take my Charlie trigger out of my Production G17, but it is what it is.
  8. Here's a new ruling for Amidon on XD mag releases in Production. "NROI Rulings Title: Internal VS External Created: 1/31/06 Updated: 2/07/06 Effective: 2/07/06 Rule number: US Appendix D9 i Applies to: Pistol Ruling authority: John Amidon Status: Released Question My actual question was: would this type of mod be legal in Production?? The actual physical changes are being made interally to the mag release but the result is the release sticking out further on one side. Does this fall under the category of an internal mod and thus legal or since the change is visable (you can see the release sticking out further on one side) would this be external and NOT legal?? Ruling The rules allow for internal modifications, such as action work to enhance reliability, throating, trigger work, etc.. Changing an external part from the factory specs., is not part of that enhancement. Trigger jobs can be done without altering the mag release. There has been a previous ruling in March of 2005, it states: Exchanging external parts from one approved model handgun to another approved model handgun from the same manufacturer is allowed, providing that the parts are original manufacturers parts and offered in their catalogs or on their handguns that otherwise meet division criteria. So if Springfield offered this part in the altered state, on one of the models or in their catalog, so it could be ordered by itself, it would be OK to exchange the mag release, it cannot be modified internally to get an external enhancement." Here's the link: XD mag release ruling I read this ruling as disallowing Rich's (Canyon Creek) modification to the mag release in Production. I also read this ruling as POSSIBLY allowing the Bar Sto extended mag release because Springfield uses it. Thoughts?
  9. WOW!! I bet Charlie will figure out a way to produce a revised trigger that's Production legal. Charlie - any thoughts?
  10. Nick, Your Weaver 1-3x is a good optic. Shoot it for a while and you will be able to tell if you need anything. Good luck.
  11. If that guy was a lot better – he would still suck!! How he made one dollar by singing is beyond me . . . Hang it up Aaron.
  12. Well I bought the HS2000. It was a third Gen model, so hopefully I got the new extractor. I shot about 300 rounds through it and it ran perfectly. I just need to send it off to Rich for a trigger job!
  13. Pictures? Bet it makes Major!!!! Yes - but only once
  14. +1 I can tell you that 9.4 grains of Titegroup under a 180 does bad things to a G22. Don't ask me how I know . . .
  15. What is the ultimate trigger stop?
  16. What Larry said. The new JP FF tube is great. You don't even have to buy a new gas block - just Dremel the one you have to make it fit under the FF tube.
  17. Tag for any updated info. Looks interesting.
  18. Good to hear. You can experiment by putting the aftermarket parts back in one at a time and them testing in order to isolate the problem. However, that process could take a lot of time and ammo. Personally, I'd add the trigger back in first (with stock springs) - because I think that's the most important mod to a Glock other than new sights. Let us know what happens.
  19. I tend to agree. I shoot Glocks in both Production and Limited - and I own 7 Glocks. However I have a line on a cheap XD. I shot it yesterday and was impressed. I'm sure it would be ~20% easier to shoot with a good trigger. If Springfield made parts available, I bet the XD would make great gains in the % of Production shooters using them.
  20. I had a chance to shoot the HS2000/XD today before I decide to buy it or not (it's a friend's). It’s the 4 inch model with the stock, dual recoil spring system. I shot it side by side with my beloved G17. The G17 is my Production gun and has a very nice trigger and nice sights. The XD is bone stock. I found the XD pointed well for me and transitioned well too. The LONG stock trigger and LONG reset took some getting used to, but it wasn't terrible. Occasionally I'd yank one low. After some practice, I got some .18 splits at about 8-9 yards with it while shooting A's. However, that was not consistent. I could see how the Canyon Creek trigger would make a huge difference. I also had no problem hitting a 6" plate at 20 yards when I did my part. Occasionally the slide would not lock back on an empty mag. I think my right thumb was riding the slide release lever. I’d have to work through that issue. Any tips? The unavailability of parts still worries me, but I think I'll buy the XD because I can get it pretty cheap. Next, I need a Canyon Creek trigger job, Uncle Mikes holster and a few mag holders . . .
  21. Hey Rumpy. If you have access to a swinger, then practice with different sight pictures. When shooting swingers, my focal plane is on the target. I still see the front sight, but the plane of focus is on the target. That's not traditional, but it works for me. Good luck.
  22. They're good. You need to use Wolf springs with them.
  23. I tend to agree, but I see the other side as well. An official ruling would clarify. When you getting the XD Flex? Will you shoot it stock first or get some sights and a trigger job immediatly?
