  1. I shoot a 2011. Slide, barrel and recoilmaster come out after every shoot. Frame gets pulled to bits (without taking the grip/trigger/mag button) and cleaned before and after every big shoot, sometimes during the shoot if it's dusty. Don't pull the grip off the frame at all (in 5 years+), just check the screws are tight...
  2. I shoot a group at the end of every practise session - and especially before a big competition! Just to be sure...
  3. Flash is unburnt powder burning outside the barrel. It all depends on the amount of powder, the burn rate of the powder you are using and the length of your barrel. It suggests you could go to a faster? burning powder but use less of it?
  4. You seem to be worried about time - you can't push your speed in a match. You need to go in with the mindset of shooting A's - push the speed in practise and shoot A's in the match. Also, you appear to be shooting on the move quite a lot - if you can't do this accurately you may be better off moving faster and shooting from fixed positions (a short term fix to try improve accuracy - you need to practise shooting on the move to make sure you don't miss!). +1 on dryfire too
  5. Second video, first stage: On the first two arrays of targets, you shoot outside in (the easy target to hardest target). Shoot the hardest target first then work outward - that way you can be moving to the next position as you shoot the last targets of those arrays. Just my $0.02. Ryan
  6. +1 Gives you all the mounting options you need, and has a bigger knob to turn on and off easier. I have 8 MOA, up to you though...
  7. What did your rounds chrono at beforehand? I like about a 6 PF buffer above the cut-off.
  8. I just shot our regional champs, this year being the first year that I have properly prepared, with decent practises beforehand. Having recently read your (Steve's) book, I tried to shoot the match with a focus of "Shoot A's" as I started every stage. I knew that because I had prepared well I didn't have to "try" on every stage - instead I knew that my scores and times would be represented by my level of practise. Ended up shooting the match clean (didn't have to rush when close to no-shoots etc.) and came third overall. Thanks again Steve!
  9. Me shooting a stage at a recent club match. I was practising Open and it was the Standard club champs - they stood up an extra popper to be funny so I left it! Any tips? I've been working on moving more aggressively between positions, and it seems to be working... Cheers!
  10. Clear your head of everything, especially anything related to "no-shoot." Even if you have to think about something completely random. Shot a match a few weeks back with 12 targets and no-shoots between all of them - got to the last target and thought "I haven't hit a no-shoot yet!" - next minute => NO SHOOT!!!!! Need to try to ignore them!
  11. Hi all, I need some help finding drills to try and improve my transition times. I've just made M but I feel I still have a lot of room for improvement. I have found (and use) Brian's Transition Drill Part 1 (and 2), and I'm looking for some more. Have tried the search function but no real luck. Thanks in advance. Ryan
  12. I guess the difference is that music has an underlying tempo even while a solo is playing. Shouldn't shooting be almost chaotic, doing each action as fast as possible, dictated only by the target placement and distances?
  13. By the time I get to the line it's already programmed... I can't say for sure but it must be pretty close to nothing! Unless there's a lot of steel in which case I'm thinking 1 shot each!
  14. I'm with the Rule Book crowd - along with a FULL EXPLANATION of WHY. People can't correct mistakes if they don't know what is wrong. And depending on when it happened could also influence the situation - for example mag pouches in the wrong place etc. noticed BEFORE shooting could be corrected without wrecking anyone's day, but after they've shot it is only fair that they shoot in the division matching their equipment. Better a warning at a club match than being bumped to Open at a big match....
  15. Haha I do this with my computer mouse sometimes! My trigger finger position when moving is pull the trigger finger off of the trigger and extend it straight out as far from the gun as possible (not straining, but clearly out of the guard). Also, I have seen the same issue as the OP with a number of guys with SP-01's - fantastic Production gun here in NZ but maybe CZ should add a decocking lever!
  16. Just do the 6-10 strings to identify your current level. The practise comes with Part 2
  17. At our weekend match there was a stage shot weak hand only, picking the gun off of a table. A lefty in our squad programmed the stage in his walk through the same way as the rest of us, except for him that turned out to be STRONG HAND ONLY...
  18. I usually get bored after 250 rounds or so, but make sure to finish with group shooting at say 25yds - that way you can be sure the gun is still sighted in for the next time you need it!
  19. It depends on how the swinger is set up - cover, N/S etc. I find track-trap to work quite well on most swingers - track and break the first shot before it stops, then trap it and break the second shot. Eric Grauffel's DVD has some good video - that man is fast...
  20. And practise, practise, practise. I can call my shots and back up a poor shot quickly if I have been practising. But last week I hadn't shot in over a month, I was running past a target, called A-M but by the time my brain worked out that I missed I was too far past the target to back it up. Had I had some practise my reactions would have been better and I would have no doubt backed up that miss. Just my 2 cents....
  21. No, I would be in the same situation as you - but I like to know that it's a gun issue rather than an ammo one. I had a jam that locked the gun solid at our Nationals - since then everything has gone through the gauge. It's not a lot of effort for peace of mind! Ryan
  22. +1 on the DAA Multi Gauge. Every round I fire goes through it - I get pissed off having jams in practise and not knowing if it is the gun or the ammo - this way I know it is the gun and I can fix problems BEFORE a match!
