What price range are we looking at?
-
Awesome match guys, your hard work and attention to detail paid off. I shot on Saturday and our squad never waited at a stage, the squad behind us would typically show up on our last or second to last shooter. I'd say the match was run better than some level two matches I've attended. Quality work, if I had a suggestion I'd say increase the entry fee, I know it sounds a little crazy but if you all put together another match like that it'd be worth it (let's just not get to crazy with the entry fee, lol) nice to see the strong support from the sponsors. Thanks, JG

2016 Fallen Brethren 3Gun Challenge
Acespeedy replied to Spartan-6's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
Sounds great! -
My limited experience. After shooting out to 500 yards last year at Fallen Brethren 3 Gun with a Leupold Mk6, it left me wanting more. I looked into a few options and eventually purchased a Bushnell 1 to 8.5. I kept the Mk6 on my backup gun and ran the bushnell this year when I wasn't running a dot. I can say that it's nice to have to have the extra magnification. Sure you can see the targets with 1 to 6 but its nice to be able to see the splash and get the hold for the wind with that extra bit of magnification. It's still a true 1x but I still find myself using the 45 degree irons instead of the dot at 1x. We shot a target at 600 this year and I hit it on the third round only because I was able to see the bullet splash and hold for wind. Theory They say when running a precision gun you need at least 1 power per 100 yards, so in theory a 10x is good out to 1k. Applying that theory a 1 to 4 and a 1 to 6 should be good out to 400 and 600 yds respectively. I think looking at the matches that you will be attending and the max distance you'll be engaging targets should help determine what magnification would benefit you most. Reticle I used my buddies vortex jm, the bdc reticle was on but I really prefer front focal plane scopes. Being able to use the reticle at any magnification is an added plus. The Bushell has a mil type reticle so I zerod at 200 yds and got my dope out to 770 yds, due to range limitations, wrote it on a piece of index card, laminated and stuck it to the side of my scope. The Mk6 has an awesome reticle with references for wind, but it doesn't match my drop, its close but still have to remember exactly where to hold on the reticle with the bullet/rifle combo I'm running. Conclusion If I had to spend the money again I'd buy the Bushnell all over, I'm kinda hoping they come out with a G2 or Horus reticle that way I could use it double duty as a midrange scope on .308 gas gun, plus it'd be nice to have something to reference for wind/hold. Please excuse any typos/grammatical errors I wrote this using the swipe function on my phone. Johnny G

I shoot NRA Tactical Police Challenge (TPC) 3 Gun matches where the -1/C zone is 2 second penalty and the -3/D is a 4 second penalty and a miss is 10 seconds. Also, if the round touches the next scoring ring you are give the higher penalty, breaks the -3/D perf and you just earned a 4 second penalty, makeup shots are usually allowed except on some stages. No shoots are 10 seconds and Failure to engage is 40 second penalty. You have to shoot extremely accurately but in order to place on top you have to shoot fast. I think it's like IDPA on crack, but I enjoy the punishment. Coming from IDPA background it was a little easier to accept the accuracy to speed ratio. I haven't shot an IDPA match in the past three years even though I purchased the 3 year membership and I'm not sure if I'll be back to shoot a regional but I'm glad I got introduced to the shooting sports via IDPA. I think pushing accuracy in a sport that is marketed towards defensive/CHL/LE should push accuracy, maybe I'll go back and shoot my edc G34 (next year it wont be legal for TPC G17/22 will be the longest allowed). Trigger, low mass BCG and muzzle device for 11 y/o 3 gun rifle
Acespeedy replied to rescue6's topic in Rifle - Technical
16.5 VooDoo , apex comp, JP LMOS, Syrac adj gas blk, and KMR rail. I've got the same setup except with a Mi SS2 rail. Runs real flat and is real lightweight. This might be a little of topic but it'll help your son. Try to get him to learn how to clear malfunctions both in the Ar and Pistol platform. I've seen so many people zero stages because they picked a match as the time to learn how to clear/fix a malfunction. It's frustrating watching people quit or get hung up on simple malfunction. Just look up 3 Little Kittens on you tube and that'll be a good start, and of course there are ways to game malfunctions but that'll come with time. Good Luck, JG -
I just bought one, haven't had a chance to put it together yet. Going to put it on a G22. JG

Taylor Freelance barrel shroud for 3 gun
Acespeedy replied to TyinTX's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I'm running a TF on a G22 and I'm pretty happy with it. I've got a G34 and G35 and I prefer to shoot the 22. I'm curious if it's legal for 3GN. JG- 7 replies

Looking forward to the match! JG -
Anybody have a reduced target that can be printed to dry fire practice at a reduced distance preferably at an indoor distance. I've found several but not sure on what the distance would be in order to simulate the 50. Math was never my subject, now if my teachers would of told me how much it would have helped shooting a precision rifle, things may have been a little different. Thanks, JG

2015 3GN Regionals
Acespeedy replied to tngunnut69's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
How was the match, just looking to see what to expect at the SW Regional. Thanks, JG -
Try shooting at fifty yards, it'll make the 25 easier well at least the mental part of it. Focus on the tip of the front sight and make sure that the light bars are equal in the rear. Attending a shooting course early on will save you a ton of money in the long run and get you a head start into competition. Just make sure the instructor is a good one. JG

I'll be in search of a computer during work to try to get in, lol. I really enjoyed the SW regional last year, it was a great match and ran in a very professional manner. I struggled to get in last year when the servers crashed and was able to get in the second time it opened up. Hopefully everybody doesn't click at the same time. JG -
Great vid, lots of good information. JG
