  1. Just read CHA-LEE's Iron Sights thread. Very helpful THANKS! I've decided to experiment before I get the Sevigny sights plus I would likely pay to have them installed. I opened up the Rear Notch (it was about .138) and immediately liked it better. Will try to get it to .150 like the Sevigny. Filed it and touched up with a Blue Pen. I will also make the Notch deeper. That will allow more light, make the front sight appear taller and allow me to call shots that have bad sight alignment. Then temporarily Black out the Rear Dots. Then for $35 I ordered a .160 Tall .105 Wide FO Front from Dawson. The Factory sight is .170 so the .160 won't bring it up a lot but will nudge it a bit (about 1" at 50') My near vision isn't great so thought I should try an FO. Then I drifted my Rear Sight right. When I get the Sight installed and get to shoot it I will follow up. It is VERY HELPFUL to understand why a certain feature works for some and not others
  2. I have a Gen 2 Glock 17 with worn out factory Nite Sights. I'm READY for a narrower Front Sight (I'm accurate enough to notice now). It currently Shoots POA elevation wise and Left (3" at 50'). The MUZZLE has to cover the Target and not the Sight. I didn't want to change anything until my groups were consistent. So now I need to drift or replace the rear. I think I want a slightly shorter front. I feel like I always have to hold higher than I want to. I want to stay low profile (I use it for CCW too). I am tempted to go to a Plain sight though FO would be my other option. Ive already found large/wide FO sights and big dots to be distracting on other guns... Is there a good reason to look at anything other than Dawson or Warren? I don't know enough to have personal preferences yet. Just know I want a narrower Front. Should I experiment with just changing the front sight or am I better off just getting a set (Sevigny Carry for instance) and try it for a while? I guess I am looking for a good 'normal' starting point. THANKS, KFN
  3. Do you have a .22? Lately I'll go to the Range and burn through 200-300 rounds of .22 Working on tight group shooting using SMALL targets. It raises my expectations for my accuracy. ALWAYS improves my major caliber shooting.
  4. I'll just PRACTICE then My left hand isn't weak...no timing though. I do the "Quarter Homie" and it seems like my Elbow position has a big effect on control. Lots to think about.
  5. I haven't worked on this much. Dropping my left foot back when shooting left handed gave me a nice "Kickstand" when I wanted to stay more Square. My weak hand recoil control with 1911 .45 230gr SUCKS. Tips?
  6. Thanks for that. This is for a different Pistol and now I don't have to replace the Holster. I also trimmed the little 'cleat' back that holds it onto your pants (not the belt tabs). It was REALLY hard to get this holster off without taking off your pants...
  7. I will probably do that. That mod would make it "Illegal" for competition though wouldn't it? EDIT Maybe read somewhere else that "retention devices must be used if they are there"... Am I making that up? Can't find it in the rule book
  8. ah...so you saw myYouTube video? Seriously about the Serpa though.... The 'flaw' is that if you miss the Release and try to draw. It then gets stuck until you push the gun back down and hit the release. THAT might cause you to put you finger in the wrong place. So no...I don't like the Serpa because sometimes you don't quite engage the release. Oh yeah...I heard that Glocks were dangerous too
  9. Good to hear. Unless the tension is pretty loose I've had a hard time getting the draw to be consistent. Maybe a combination of my Draw angle and how I Reholstered. Experimenting with it. I just didn't want to get used to 'cheating'. This paddle is already so much easier than IWB or a Serpa...
  10. I've got a G17 in a Comptac Paddle. I've got the Tension Screw set where it isn't TIGHT but the is a definite 'Catch' when you Holster/Draw. I can shake the Holster and jump up and down without it coming loose. I probably wouldn't want to do a Handstand though. For me, Handstands arent a part of my 'daily activities'. Is there some kind of Litmus Test for Holster tension other than that brief sentence in the Rule book? thanks, KFN
  11. Bumping this. I just found out there are lots of these in my area (Nashville, TN) I've put a Sling and a set of Aperture sights on a 22 and have added it to my Dryfire practice. Sighting a scaled 300m target is VERY different than a Pistol at 7 Yards It seems like it is helping my Pistol shooting
  12. that looks WAY better. Thanks for posting that
  13. Can you pull 6 at a time? If you load one at a time the 6 round is practical. But I've found it difficult to grab three at a time consistently. Maybe I just need to practice more. Also, my 6 round was ROUGH and the spring was ridiculously tight. I had to sand the rough edges down and take some pliers to the springs to bend them to be more loose.
  14. I'm totally on board with Shooting 22LR with Iron Sights. So if I go that route, I can be on the lookout for a good Lower. Thanks
  15. Interesting to try but are we after Doubletaps with Slugs? Note that he Short stroked the first time he tries it...that's what was happening to me when I did it. I also had trouble doing target transitions but I'm a Novice. What do you guys think?
  16. Basically, I'm putting time into just learning how to shoot. I want to compete in the future. If I were buying based on personal taste, I would get the most no frills GI model I could find so I can figure out what I like and go from there. (plus I am a fan of Retro guns.....cars, guitars, music, cameras....) I would also likely consider getting a .22LR Upper first. I'm getting lots of good technical info from the Sweeney book so I can understand how the different features/options affect performance. I'm interested to get the Base feature set that doesn't paint me into a corner (at least not into a corner I don't want to be in!)
  17. I am digging through the Forum and am also reading the Patrick Sweeney Gun Digest AR Book (Vol 1). Searching around the Internet I keep running into SHTF/Zombie/Mall Ninjas What are the basic traits of a good basic AR? I shoot a Glock 17, GI 1911 and a 12 Ga Pump. What would the equivalent be in an AR? Thanks, KFN
  18. Experimenting.... I shoot a Pump. For me, I'm driving the Gun with my Shoulder. Really locking it down with the last few fingers of my strong Hand, pushing shoulder into it and locking my strong hand elbow down. Seems to work best for me when I keep my support hand pretty much just propping up the gun and keeping the recoil from moving sideways. If the support hand is pushing or tensed up too much you can't (I can't) shoot quickly Aggressive stance and rear foot position are a large factor.
  19. Mine is running great now. Just ran a couple hundred rounds today. My only problem is I occasionally drag against the slide with a finger and cause a Misfeed.
  20. I'm still digging through the Blog examples...lots of good stuff on there. YES, they need a "Stop"/"Pause" button. If you exit the App, it pauses. You'd have to force quit to stop it. He's thought of so many things it's hard for me to think he didn't think of THAT. I'm emailing him...see if I get a response. His blog entries are all old.
  21. http://dryfiretrainer.blogspot.com/ At first glance, I thought I didn't want this App. I was just looking for a Timer where I could set a Par time. What's COOL about this app is that you can make a ton of preset time sequences and also save strings of those presets as a "practice regimen". The feature I like immediately is that you can set it to repeat without having to reset the timer. I set up a Random start delay with a Par time of 1.5 A delay of 3 seconds before the drill restarts (which again h a random start time) The set it to repeat 25 times, Nice. $3 well spent
  22. Funny.... I can do a hundred clean draws or reloads in a row. Turn on a Timer and I immediately start missing! That's the next level of proficiency. Not letting your mind wander
