  1. TECHNOLOGY! Just ordered the Kindle version and it showed up on my iPad in less than a minute. Fun While I like having hard copies of books it is easier for me to read on my iPad
  2. Be happy to have you out, just bring eye and ear protection. Be careful we might put you to work, LOL If can make it, I'd be more than happy to help. Would learn a lot more that way
  3. Well....that's pretty clear Some old school guys had poisoned me on hi cap/extra rounds ("if God had intended for a 1911 to hold 9 rounds....") And warned me about stuffed mags hitting the extractor etc... All that said, I do have to firmly seat my mags under a chambered round if they are full.
  4. But do you have to top off your mag after Chambering? That is topping off what WAS a full mag before chambering. Downloading would be starting with a less than full mag. Your reload mags won't be topped off.... Anyone have an official opinion?
  5. I hope to at least WATCH this one (I'm from Nashville). I'm tied up most Saturday mornings
  6. Yep....3 mags for 18 rounds. And really, 8+1 feels tight in my mags. I carry 7+1
  7. Ray, Read up about Sear Spring Adjustment. There are several YouTube Videos as well. I would do that just so you can understand what it is and what it controls and help to communicate with a Gunsmith. Then I would take it to some one to check it out. You're likely to chase your tail a bit trying to figure it out and it potentially creates an unsafe pistol. Your gunsmith may have simply been trying to make the trigger very light
  8. In practice, I am finding that improving my Glock trigger technique improves my 1911 shooting as well. The Glock exposes some slop in my technique that I could get away with more on the 1911. I'll focus on SSP/Production I don't always carry the same pistol. Depends upon what I am wearing and where I am going. The mechanics of the 1911 have always seemed very natural to me. But in 'the game', reloads will happen more often with the CDP. That's the kind of thing I was wondering about in my original question.
  9. Between SSP and CDP are either better for beginners? I don't have a personal preference (yet anyway). My accuracy is tighter on my 1911 due to the trigger (GI Iron sights), Glock 17 recoil management is easier, 9mm is cheaper to shoot. I feel like cleaning up my trigger technique on the Glock will benefit my 1911 shooting in the long run. I want to pick one for the time being and learn the game on one pistol. Thoughts? P.S. In USPSA it seems more obvious as in Single Stack I would be shooting against .38 and 9mm with my .45 The field is much thicker in Production but I'm not concerned about "winning" at this point.
  10. Oh...in the future.... Test to see that Half Cocked and Cocked works properly. Then with it cocked, drop the slide and make sure the hammer doesn't fall with it. If these tests fail, DON'T FIRE IT
  11. Raymond, Have you taken it apart? The Sear Spring isn't set correctly. Can happen if reassembled incorrectly. If it hasn't been apart then it popped out and you need a sear spring adjustment or replacement. Happened to me last week (assembly error)
  12. When getting a good 'semi-crouch' I always point my feet in a little. Much more stable laterally, easier to move and safer on the knees.
  13. Wrist Rollers helped me out too: http://www.esportsonline.com/?sitemid=CHCWRXXX&websrc=BS_CHCWRXXX
  14. I've got the Wilderness 1.5" Poly lined. Works great for heavy pistols. I like being able to adjust the belt as opposed to holes in a leather belt Rigger belts are a pain....have to remove the buckle to thread Holsters and to put them through belt loops. I had an excellent one from Endeavor Stitchworks but it was too much work just to put it on (for CCW).
  15. The Radio Shack ones are good (I'm a recording Engineer/producer). The iPhone App is very close. Off by a few DB which can be drastic depending upon what you are using the data for but close enough for most
  16. Yes, I was using a Push/Pull grip with a low Boxers stance. I've been "resetting" and using a full isosceles...relaxed, shoulders down. Now I think I am ready to make it more aggressive without screwing it up In my Martial Arts training, we do a low Staggered stance but with the hips Square so that is comfortable for me. Time to experiment! Thanks to all
  17. This keeps coming up with me (and I keep forgetting it!). Work opposing muscle groups and Stretch/keep full mobility in the opposite direction. I bend my fingers and wrists backwards and also stretch my Neck/Back/Shoulders arching back. Thanks for the post!
  18. I am totally comfortable in a low aggressive stance but with a staggered stance (one foot back) like a wrestler. Still adjusting to a square stance...
  19. Shopping for an inexpensive 1911, I handled four different Para Experts and all of them felt loose so I passed. They were 5"
  20. Make it a Pool Table Stage called "Rack 'Em Up"
  21. Dry fire pays off. I already knew that, but now I KNOW that. I didn't have to warm up this time. Groups were tight, Bills Drills were accurate as was target transition. Now I just need to keep my balance!
  22. I should add that they can be snag prone. The melted end...keep it small and watch your mode of carry/cover
  23. The rods don't seem super fragile. Mine came in a little plastic tube ( like drill bits are often packaged). I'm not Babying mine and they haven't needed replacing yet (one range gun and one carry gun)
  24. Still love my grips but now I wish I had gotten the carry grips. I'm using an IWB Galco King Tuck ( like a MTac or Crossbreed) and I practice drawing. The VZ are wearing the leather holster backing a bit
  25. I think it was sludge mix of everything. Factory grease, filings, powder, carbon. It was frustrating because no matter how much I cleaned, the rails got gritty very quickly and dirt was always coming through the breech from around the firing pin.
