  1. TWO QUESTIONs?: Other than the the "rested ready" position (with a two second penalty) to start, is the only permitted draw from a "Surrender Start"? and, will the COF's be only the ones in the link above as a maximum, or will others be added?
  2. Wal-Mart drops gun sales in about third of U.S. stores Posted 4/14/2006 11:46 AM The Associated Press Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) has decided to stop selling guns in about a third of its U.S. stores in what it calls a marketing decision based on lack of demand in some places, a company spokeswoman said Friday. The world's largest retailer decided last month to remove firearms from about 1,000 stores in favor of stocking other sporting goods, in line with a "Store of the Community" strategy for increasing sales by paying closer attention to local differences in demand. "This decision is based on diminished customer relevancy and demand in these markets," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jolanda Stewart. Stewart declined to specify what stores were affected. Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Ark., has about 1,200 discount stores and 1,900 Supercenters, which include a full grocery section, in all 50 states. Wal-Mart says it sells rifles and shotguns. In Alaska, it also sells handguns. "As with all merchandise decisions that we make, our decision to remove guns from Wal-Mart locations is simply based on the lack of customer purchase history of firearms in a given community," Stewart said. Wal-Mart's experimental new Supercenter for more upscale shoppers, which opened last month in the affluent Dallas suburb of Plano, does not carry guns. As Wal-Mart seeks growth by moving from rural America into cities and suburbs, it finds it needs to retune its inventory to appeal to more urban consumers. The Plano store is a testing ground for ideas, from trendier products to more subdued interiors, that are part of a broad effort at Wal-Mart to rekindle sluggish growth by luring more affluent shoppers away from faster-growing rivals such as Target (TGT). Chief Executive Lee Scott has said that in communities like Plano, Wal-Mart's sports department should shift from a traditional emphasis on hunting and fishing to more home fitness and exercise products.
  3. Doesn't sound like any of the women in my life!
  4. Have had extraordinary service and quality from SportRX in making graduated corrective shooting lenses at a great price. Have used for two years. About to have second pair made.
  5. Let's say you shoot in a sanctioned match and get bumped up from SS to Expert. You subsequently shoot a local club Classifier Match and only score at the SS level. At the next major match that requires a Classifier to have been shot within a year, at what level should you register?
  6. Grew up with Andy of Mayberry. As I age, find those actors that entertained me in my youth slowly passing away. Curious if he knew of his contribution to our sport?
  7. Take back what I said about never beening chrono'd in an IDPA state match . . . as I shot the PA State match in 2004 where Ted did indeed chrono the rounds . . . I stand corrected. Thanks!
  8. IDPA RULEBOOK: Chronograph three (3) rounds at a distance of ten (10) feet using a gun of MAXIMUM barrel length for the DIVISION of the same gun type. I have never been chrono'd at a state or regional level IDPA Match, but have been busted down to minor at a Regional USPSA match by accepting the published specs on factory ammo did not make major out my my 4" .45. How many guns will be tried of a MAXIMUM barrel length before someone actually has to (find out or) admit to shooting soft loads at a major IDPA match?
  9. O.K. - I edited and got rid of the "WTF". Still surprised nothing noted on the IDPA website but am now aware of: 6th Annual 2006 NE Regional IDPA Championship @ Cortland County Pistol Club 10th Annual 2006 IDPA MA State Championship (great match run by Dave Bold) 2nd Annual 2006 CT State Championship (Harry Simonsen & Craig Buckland at their best with many others!) Shot all three with the PA match last year with mixed performance, but, of course still had a great time. With the possiblity of a PA Match, guess I will have something to do this season! THANKS!
  10. I am in a state of disbelief that in planning my next year of match events, I cannot find a single MAJOR IDPA Match scheduled to take place outdoor in the Northeast of the USA on the IDPA website? Ted Murphy always did a spectacular job in PA and the NYS Match did not take place last year. Believe there will be a second CT State Championship. My second year in a row of being "waitlisted" for the Winter Nationals at S&W. What am I missing here about the future of IDPA in the Northeast?
  11. You still have the sleep study to look forward to. They hook you up to about 40 wire sensors connected to your head (scalp) and body, then watch you sleep on an infared camera and neasure how many times you either stop breathing or hold your breath. If you have it, sometimes, your body goes into "fight or flight" mode from the lack of oxygen and you can find yourself waking up on a soaked pillow. If you meet the criteria, the technician will wake you up in the middle of the night and hook you up to the CPAP machine, which feels sort of like a dog hanging his head outside of a window in a moving car to get wind shooting up your nose to keep your airway open, might feel like. Also, once you get your machine, besides dealing with what type of water to use in it (I have always just used tap water without a problem, local city water GOOD) you must clean the machine, recommended at least twice a week (I do it every two months) in a process using vinegar that takes about an hour. Believe it or not, with all this aggravation, I still use it religiously and recommend it's use to those who would benefit. Again, good luck!
  12. I have been using a CPAP machine (with built in humidifier) for about three years. Made a profound difference in my overall energy and fatigue level. Everything looks ugly and will probably stop you from being a chick magnet in bed, but from a health standpoint, nothing else totally cures snoring, oxygenates your blood, and allows you to function normally. Was told sleep apnea typically effects middle age overweight men with larger than 17" necks. THAT'S ME! Sleeping on you back is a small challenge, but the results are worth it. Good luck!
  13. Thanks guys, I missed 7.3.2 That's the answer!
  14. SCENARIO - Between stages, two shooters accidently walk into one another, and an unloaded gun falls to the ground. RULE STATES: Retrieving a dropped firearm. Dropped firearms must always be retrieved by a Range Officer who will, after checking and/or clearing the firearm, place it directly into the competitor’s gun case, gun bag or holster. Dropping an unloaded firearm or causing it to fall outside of a course of fire is not an infraction, however, a competitor who retrieves a dropped firearm will receive a match disqualification. Must an RO that is officiating at that match be called to retreive the firearm, or could anyone certified as an RO, even one of the two shooters if certified, pick it up?
  15. NYC - FORGETABOUTIT! Might want to check out Westchester County, NY, about 20 miles north of NYC. Expect to wait about 6 months on a permit (forget carry) that will either allow you to have a pistol for employment, target, or hunting. There are several public and private gun clubs that support bullseye, IPSC, and IDPA. Also, just over the border in CT, permit takes about 2 months, and believe it or not, carry is O.K. with a lot of private and public clubs within an hours drive. NYC is the pits!
  16. A curled-up little field mouse, dead. With a trap holding one leg. That seems to be the truth, but the rest of it is simply a story you are telling yourself about how the mouse suffered. Try this reality check: THE MOUSE SUFFERED. Is it true? Can you really know that? What do you get for having that belief? Where would you be without that belief? Your business was to set the trap, it was the mouses' business to have set it off and died. End of story, [but I do get how you feel.]
  17. My wife made me take ballroom dancing lessons for six months before our wedding. Didn't help at all. YOU ARE DOOMED!
  18. From what people are reporting, it is starting to feel like there is something arbitrary and capricious about the application process at S&W. I genuinely hope that the fact they are the single biggest sponsor of IDPA is not a factor. Is anyone aware of any specific guidelines (other than FAIRLY) as to how match applications are supposed to be handled?
  19. They were a must use at the PA State IDPA Championship. Went home with one as prize. Quality seems O.K. and are now being offered by Dillon. Listed with 70 lumens rather than typical 65. Personally, I prefer Surefire. Better contact, turn on switches, and feel. Accessories that come with DigiLight seem and feel - cheap.
  20. In my local Wal-Mart in CT, when the cashier scans the code, the register displays, "Is the customer over 19?". Seems to be only concerned with age, not a bad thing, and not usage.
  21. My daughter went back today to the same Wal-Mart to return something else, noticed there was someone else at the sporting goods counter, made the purchase and walked away with 5 boxes of Winchester 9mm White Box value pack. Still clueless whether is was a store policy or NYS law.
  22. My 22 year old daughter who lives in NYS (I live in CT) has decided to start shooting with me. She went into a Wal-Mart store in NYS to purchase some 9mm ammo and after proving her age, was told they could not sell the ammo to her without a Valid NYS Pistol Permit. At first this sounded somewhat legitimate knowing the anti-handgun climate in New York State (and NJ & MA). On further thought . . . what if she had a .22 rifle or 9mm carbine rifle that does not require a pistol permit and wanted to purchase ammo? Is this a store policy or NYS Law? Have things really gotten this draeconian?
  23. Unfortunately for me, I contacted Peggy at S & W months ago, was told I would be placed on the database distribution list and never received an application. Was curious if perhaps they only sent them out to previous participants. I am an IDPA S.O., have been shooting IDPA in this area for the last two years, made SSP - Expert by match placement this year, and very much wanted to go. Disappointed!
  24. MATCH IS FULL! Call to be placed on waiting list. Found the following message on the IDPA Website. Were applications sent out? Could the match really be full? Any info on this!
