  1. I had the same problem when I switched guns last year. Bulged brass that chambered in my first gun (FN) would lockup my second gun (Walther) just out of battery. Now when I gauge my rounds I save the bulged rounds for practice with the FN.
  2. I double plug also. Foam inner and non electric outer. I get pressure discomfort so I can wear both sets loose but still have enough protection.
  3. I replaced a Phillips head retention screw with a knob so I can adjust stage to stage when conditions dictate. I also snug a little between stages because my jacket sometimes hangs up on the grip.
  4. I replaced one of the screws with a knob so I can set retention stage by stage. Part of my "pre-flight checklist" so to speak. Sometimes changing weather conditions can make a noticeable difference. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
  5. In my square deal CCI loaded noticeably harder than Win SSP. They kind of "click" in. The press easily has enough strength and leverage but I won't buy CCI as my first choice primer anymore.

    teenagers

Now don't get me wrong, I love my kids. Sometimes the way teenagers procrastinate and then blame other people for their problems drives me nuts. My daughter spent the weekend goofing with her friends. No big deal right? Sunday night at 9 pm she needs to do laundry. Sorry, Mom's got clothes in right now. She ends up late for school Monday because her clothes aren't dry. Obviously Mom's fault. Now, Monday night, she's up nearly all night working on a project, due Tuesday. It's not her fault, she didn't know it was due Tuesday until Monday. She's only had 10 days to do it. I guess sometimes they have to learn the hard way. Meanwhile, I've got to deal with a tired, bitchy teenager.
  7. My goal shooting classifiers is improvement. I want every classifier to improve my average, even if only a little. At least 90% of the time I can do that. First match after a layoff or switching guns can cause a small drop, but that's not a big deal. Mindset is key. It's just another stage and all you can do is shoot it to your ability.
  8. I've heard M&P's don't care for the heavier bullets. Also sometimes pushing up velocity a little can help (that's ultimately what you accomplish switching to lighter bullets).
  9. There are no dumb questions. The SDB does have a resizing die. However, you must use the proprietary dies for this press. If you're trying to resize bulged brass you'll have problems with any Dillon die. You'll need to use an undersize die. I try not to collect brass behind someone shooting 9 major. The SDB has worked great for me.
  10. A few things come to mind. Are you using case lube? Lubing cases makes the handle pull easier and more uniform. Are you sorting brass? Using mixed brass could cause inconsistency. Try loading a batch with sorted brass. Are you checking rounds regularly during loading? Starting and stopping the press can cause inconsistency. Set up your press and load 100 without stopping. Check that your shell plate bolt is snug. My square deal loads very consistent OAL's.
  11. If I don't shoot the same points as the division winner I don't consider my match successful. If I shoot it slower (so far, every time) it just means he practiced more than me.
  12. Time is what's happening between shooting A's. Work to improve that without compromising accuracy.

    Slam pads

Thanks. I must have been reading some old rulings.
  14. Is it legal to add slam pads to stock mag bases for production guns? I'm thinking no...
  15. I've emailed John, maybe 4 times, with some very novice questions in the past 2 years. He's always replied promptly although one time incorrectly. I couldn't expect him to memorize every configuration of every production gun so the misinformation was understandable. I really appreciate his availability to the rank and file.
  16. Quote from another thread: Very little smoke with WST 4.0g at 1.150 oal gets me to 1000 fps with a BC moly 135 in both my G34 and STI Spartan 9mm. Very clean and accurate. No stink either with the above load. One of my buddies loads Universal with BC molys and his loads smell like rotten eggs. Edited by Boxerglocker, 08 December 2012 - 10:43 PM.
  17. You can wash brass with soap and water and then use vinegar to get a nice shine. It's possible to skip the tumbler, sorter, media, and polish. You can get very cheap case lube. I use the cheapest silicone spray that's on sale. Spray a little in a ziplock or coffee can, add clean brass and mix. You can skip the case gauge and use your barrel. Primer flip tray, pick up tubes, calipers, and scale are necessary every time you load.
  18. Bear Creek with titegroup smokes badly. With a slower powder it's tolerable. WST, Solo 1000, Universal are OK.
  19. 1. Staging the trigger for a double action first shot is common. 2. I don't acquire the sights until they appear in my line of sight on plane to make the shot. 3. My weak hand goes on the gun as soon as the gun begins to rise.

    What clays?

I use Universal, as well as a few other local shooters.
  21. I'm loading 9mm for $98/k, bullet, powder, and primer, including all shipping and hazmat. I buy about 8000 at a time.

    Facebook

It's like driving past a car wreck. I don't care to see but can't help but look.
