  1. We had that one rough start where my 9mm Major ammo didn't take a plate down with a center hit. Ray was kind enough to change it up though. One thing we all noticed on our squad was that anything center line and higher didn't seem to have a problem, but low hits, even in the calibration zone sometimes wouldn't fall. I just started holding high on everything. I did notice towards the middle of the afternoon though that most issues we were running into were gone.
  2. Hahahaha..... That was just what I needed today. Thanks. Kevin
  3. I love my techwell. I got all three sets from Bob and it has easily been one of my best investments. I can switch between the carry, mid and extra large quickly without messing with the mainspring or fitting. I'd highly recommend it.
  4. I'll be there, for sure. Just not in Limited 10. Not worth the disadvantage of 10 less rounds than others just to use that gun, especially in this match format. BUT, you can guarantee I'll be there. (And looking forward to it quite a bit, btw.)
  5. I know this has already been asked, but what are the thoughts on Limited 10? Would it be lumped with Limited or Single Stack or separate? I'm using a 5" bull barreled 45 so that is the only major difference aside from gear set-up. Would I be allowed to use 8 rounders? Or jumped up to limited?
  6. No, I think he means in a 2handed position so yea, the index knuckle. I generally do the same, but I never really looked at it as a way to adjust the positioning of the sights. I generally don't move my grip too much once I get the index.
  7. As others have said, I wouldn't worry much about split times. One of the things that I did notice in you classifier video is how much movement your gun *seems* to have. To me it looks like you could strengthen your grip a little to manage the recoil a bit easier. I compared your video to the video of Travis Tomasie demonstrating the reload and his shots have quite a bit less vertical movement. Could be loads and all that of course, but food for thought. 8. Sorry about the brain drain, DT wasn't at ussa. And thanks for the advice, I'll head north to Owasso. Kevin
  9. Topic pretty much says it all. I know a lot of ya'll just came back from DT. What hotels in that area would you recommend? I'm going to be heading down there soon and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. Thanks, Kevin
  10. Let me restate that, I'm not LE, but come from an LE training background. And I've never been confident in the safariland holster. I've had it fall out on me too many times not to watch it in. If it was a kydex sure, but not a chance on the planet with this one.
  11. I hesitated throwing this out there, but why not. Dave is a great guy, I have the great pleasure of working with him quite often as he is a partner in our company. His son Jon is our armorer. A wonderful family to be sure. Dave is, at the very least, a huge breath of fresh air in the warrior world.
  12. Yea, thank goodness I have learned a lot since that point. Though I do love looking back at those videos as a place marker for where I was. Now when I go to LAMR I have a fairly set routine of: Set my stance, relax my shoulders, open my hands (relax them), place my right thumb knuckle on my index point at my holster, exhale hard at Shooter Ready, forced to breath by the point standy happens, then unleash the beast.
  13. Guys, thanks again for the advice and tips. Duane, I used this technique with the combination of the others and it was great. My 180 turn and draw times went from 1.8X average to 1.28 average.... HUGE DIFFERENCE. There's some video on my youtube HERE Go to the El Pres video I took this afternoon. My best run was right at 5.50 sec. My average of ten runs was 5.83. Overall, I'm very happy with this as I've never really done the El Pres before. Kevin
  14. A DOH in my opinion would certainly help because you can see your shoulder raise as it's coming to the gun. Any minimized movement is good. In regards to what Flex said, I know I didn't use my sights on the draw shot on S/H and Down Time because the targets are SO big and SO close that I didn't really start to focus until I made the transition to either the bonus plate or to the opposite set of steel. But again, that's just me being me.
  15. I agree with CHA-LEE to a "T" here. Locally (and some other might jump in here) the BEST shooter I have seen is a gentlemen who I believe just turned 80. He comes to nearly every match. Is he fast? Absolutely not. But does he miss. Very rarely. I would rather be on the other end of platoon full of marines than this man. He is, in my mind, the epitome of what I want to become as a shooter. He uses HIS skills to HIS ability without care to anyone else. And having seen TGO, Max, and Manny all shoot, I'm still more impressed by him every time he comes to the line.
  16. From what Max Michel told me at his class our stance should be just wide enough so that it's just barely uncomfortable. Granted though, I'm tall and lanky. For me, I know it makes a big difference when I widen out and get behind the gun though versus when I relax too much and am tall and straight. In the defensive tactics side of the world we always use the "What's gets knocked down first? A tall skinny candle or a short fat one?" Kevin
  17. Do you happen to know any of your draw times from this weekend? I noticed in the videos that the camera guy was on your right side. I try to have at least one or two video where I can capture some my shot times. I'm certainly no one to give anyone advice on speeding up the draw at this point because I feel like mine is sucking in the dirt, but at least being able to capture on video some "match draws" has helped me to set proper goals. *Edited* I didn't watch your video from smoke and hope when I wrote the original. S&H draws string 1: 1.14 string 2: 1.11 string 3: 1.17 string 4: 1.19 string 5: 1.24 Excluding the last string on S/H you hover very close to a roughly 1.15 draw. Overall, you're consistent which is good. I do know on S/H this weekend Tim K. had a draw around .78 but he's a madman. I believe my fastest on that stage was around .94. For that one in particular, I don't know if you are taking a full sight picture, but I can tell you that I am not at all. I am completely point shooting the first target and as I progress from target to target, I focus more and more on the FS until the stop plate. But again, I don't feel that I can give complete advice here. Kevin
  18. Todd and Tim are both great shooters with two very different styles of shooting. It's a lot of fun to watch how they approach things differently.
  19. No I definitely haven't, that's exactly what I was talking about. Very cool.
  20. I agree with shootingchef quite a bit here. I have done a lot of teaching in the hands on, and honestly, it depends. People learn very differently. For me, I HAVE to see it. And I want to see it at both demo speed, and performance speed. Not because I want to see the ability of the shooter/teacher, but because I am a visual learner. The instructor does need to have the ability to perform. But I know for me, when I am demonstrating a technique, I perform at roughly 75% speed because I want the students to see the details and minutia of what I am doing. In the shooting world, it is definitely different, but I think Max Michel did it very well at his class. He showed us the techniques at a pace we can perform and see the details then at the end of the class he put all of the techniques together into the course of fire and shot LAST showing his ability as a shooter. It completely left ego out of it (on purpose) and then at the end when we had made huge strides, showed what can be accomplished simply through hard work and practice. Kevin
  21. So... my thoughts are this. I am constantly looking for a range when I travel to one location or another. And instead of digging through the internet constantly trying to find something within 50 miles of wherever I am going, I think it would be GREAT to have a google map with all the locations of ranges across the country/world. As long as people either update this thread or PM/Email me with the name, address, phone number, and website (if available) I could probably get this done pretty easily over the weekend. What do you think? Kevin
  22. Nope, the Para only comes out to play when the Detonics is out to the smith, which thankfully has only been once... Though you might start to see some optics and compensators in my near future.
