  1. how many IDPA shooters does it take to paint a house? Depends how hard you throw them How do you get 4 IDPA shooters into a bucket? A blender. How do you get them out again? Tortilla chips
  2. yeah the 2011s are a viable option, but then it gets to be silly expensive. Hey, a 3" carrel double stack 9 mm for $1600? not too shabby. oh wait, I could get a block 26/M&Pc for $450. same double stack, same caliber, same barrel length... just not as good of a trigger, but leaves me with $1100 in ammo. see how it gets out of hand? it's why I'm having a hard time.
  3. I'm looking for a cross section of ideas. Not everyone on 1911forums actually shoots guns like competitors do, and not every one that competes carries
  4. I would have to say the video wasn't great. It seemed mostly like them showing off (which is cool, but not as educational as I wanted in a beginner). Check out Jerry M's video series, he seemed to walk you through drills and junk which was nice.
  5. I think the Spartans are heavy, so trying to save weight and go alloy or something. Had a LW champ operator but sold it to help finance the move
  6. last "outlaw" match I worked was the FNH i think 2 years ago now, and you were able to gun up and down at your car, as we drove stage to stage. Didn't need to be at a safe table to un do a pistol, either. It was "Big Boy Rules", don't point a gun at anyone unless you want one pointed at you. Also it was fine to sweep people with the slung shotgun you started with, but not once you started putting shells in. Honestly, I didn't like that rule, but I think slung for the point of slung is just not worth it.
  7. I think you guys should do that for sure, but I live in Texas. Moved from FL (carry in cars, no permit no worries) to PA (open carry, bitches!) down here to the south. Anyone can carry in their truck, and our governor recently popped a coyote with his carry 380 on a morning run. I've looking into the Ayoob stuff in the past, but he's pretty antiquated in his principles, from what I gather.
  8. those do look good, but I haven't seen one in person. One thing that appeals to me though, I have enough 1911 mags and holsters floating around that there's always a back up. I like redundancy as I get older, too
  9. carve out the back of the grips. Those G10s are heavy as crazy, and I like all the weight out front if I can. I have a heavy full length rod and the Ice magwell, but hollowing my Davidsons got me legal.
  10. I've decided it's time to upgrade my EDC from the little LCP or 38 I'm usually wearing, and I'm looking for some help. I shoot 1911 & m&p almost exclusively in competition (except for GSSF) so I am very used to the grip angle, the 1911platform, safety, and I'm spoiled by a real trigger. I also have a pile of gear/mags, etc for 1911s. I'm wondering first, why the heck are little and lighter 1911s so darn expensive? Seems like you can get a decent Spartan for $600 but a lightweight or commander jumps you up to like $1400 to start! Crazy, there's less material there anyway! Meanwhile, little plastic fantastic like the XDs and M&Pc are coming in at under $500 around here. I had an XDs but the recall and recoil with limited real estate was tough to deal with. I also think the M&Ps are crazy fat in the frame and grip (and therefor conceal ability) compared to a 1911, but that might just me. So what do you think? Is it worth the huge jump in price (considering budgets are limited) to spend that much more money for arguably little improvements? Does anyone have experience/suggestions about a little 1911 that's not just crazy expensive but still light weight? I tried toting around my full sized but it's just too much. Thanks!
  11. Not sure what you mean. The upgrade fee on a pistol award cert for a Gen4 34,35,41 is $142, which is kind of steep IMO...but what's that got to do with membership renewal? If you could find a blue label one at a willing dealer, the 41 and 42 make more sense to buy at discount than on a prize certificate...but they're kind of tough to find right now. That's why I used a pair of certs I had to order them directly from Glock. I'm new to GSSF, i thought we got them for a discount. How do I find a blue label dealer in Dallas? i wouldn't mind buying it that route if it's that much cheaper
  12. at the last major 3 gun match I was at, I would venture to guess that 80% or more of competitors would be better off losing 10-15 pounds of beer gut! Transition speed is good, but won't help if you're doubled over after a 40 yard sprint. think about how much we spend to get our splits down to .15 from .5 when it takes us 15 seconds to go 40 yards? (I can say, I'm working on shaving weight from my ass way more than my gear).
  13. It was the guy we played the prank on. Who was prankish me last time. Oh well, Hr thinks he's a douche
  14. ok, so which is the thinnest Glock 45acp? I shot a 21 last year and it felt like I was giving a handy to a 4x4. I'm getting the GSSF certificate on my renewal soon and wanted to get something in 45. i have the Gen 4 17 and like it enough
  15. My office neighbor and I have had a friendly prank war when one or the other goes away on vacation. Last time he left, his office was aluminum foiled. Then I left, and my stuff was all upside down. Harmless, funny stuff where nothing gets broken or anything. So he was away last week, and with the help of my interns, we filled the whole thing with over 800 balloons. The compressor didn't work, so it was all done by hand. just walk in and it's like a big ball pitt of balloons, over 7 feet high. Well he came back early on that Friday and laughed and ran around popping some, which we got on video. He went to do some paperwork so We ran in and cleaned it all up, made the place spotless. Actually, put the balloons in another person's office who was out of town. I come to find out today that he actually reported me to HR over it! didn't talk to me or anything, he just skipped all protocol and filed a report. I'm not super worried since his supervisor actually helped me out with filling the office, but still, what a d*ck move. pisses me off that people have to be crappy over a harmless prank that he thought was funny. ***** update. as I'm typing this (I'm on lunch so it's ok) the boss comes up and says: So, got a call about you from HR this morning.... Goes on to tell me HR and he both told the other guy to pound sand, that it was a joke. My boss actually thanked me for trying to up the morale and spirit around here! No worries about getting in any trouble, i got thanked for it. hahaha ok today is turning out better than I thought.
  16. I'm running an RMR on an M&P with reduced recoil spring. If you went with a M&Pc, you could download 9 ammo and it would be a pussycat to shoot. I had my RMR milled in (not an adapter) and the damn thing is solid. I use the rmr to rack it, it's basically a big handle hanging off the top of the slide. I've tried off tables, belts, shoes, and they all work. So in addition to the dot making it easier to aim, it's much easier to rack. Now I also have regular sight on it, too, as it is an SD gun as well, so even broken electronics mean the gun runs. I also have the always on RMR so there's less small stuff to break.
  17. Hmm, looks like the GSSF certificate has a $142 upgrade fee! that certainly bumps the price up of it, and might knock it out of contention. Let's see if that is the case with the renewal of membership or not.
  18. i did the same thing pretty much, built an open M&P for the hell of it and to give it a whirl. I played with a lot o frame mounted optics and don't like how high they are, so I melted an RMR into the slide. Still no comp, but I run 9mm minor and mostly shoot 45, so the recoil is no big deal at this point. My minor load feels a lot like 22, but maybe I'll add a comp some day. I'm running 140mms, where did you get the TF 170mm extension?
  19. if you want steel matched check out Dallas Pistol Club. they do a version of a match like 6 times a month. it's local, too!
  20. That sounds like a cannon! I like revolvers but only have a 38 to carry and an sp101 for not sure the reason yet I'm currently thinking about selling a couple things and getting a les Baer thunder ranch. Is that crazy?
  21. I run full apex in my limited and open M&Ps, and I'm really happy with them. No, they will never be quite as good as a solid 1911, but damn close. Especially once the buzzer goes off. I sold a full custom 2011 and was able to get a fully set up open and limited M&P, a dozen 140mm mags, a season's worth of ammo for them, and still put money in the bank (just kidding, into an SBR). Is the trigger a little better in a 1911/2011? Yup. Is it $2k better? Not to me.
  22. Bad lever or a Lancer lower means you can drop the bolt from either side. A nice way to go about it
