  1. If the gun runs and you can find the needed accessories, I'd run a 24" in a heart beat. Mine is already 22" can't see another 2" mattering that much.
  2. This has to be one of the most obscure reasons for an AR to quit. At last months CMG team match my carbine started jamming on the coal creek stage, once in a while it would run a few shots then quit again. Well I finally got time to tear it down and see what the problem was. A blown primer in the gas key! Now there isn't a lot of clearance to fit a spent primer down the gas key, about the same as the primer tube on a Dillon reloader. Didn't take long to find but couldn't tell what the obstruction was till I got it out. Man was I surprised. Gun runs fine now.
  3. Paul, I've been shooting the Meopta for a year now and can't think of anything else I'd rather have. Mine is zeroed at 200 yd. and I'm comfortable with it out to 400 on 9" plates. At RM3G most of the "long range" targets were between 165 to 235 so just put the dot on the plate and fire. The 2 moa dot leaves a lot of the plate exposed even at 250, past 250 I start using the top of the vertical stadia line which with my 69 gr. bullets is dead on at 300 yd. I like you prefer a more defined aiming point and this method allows that. There is also nothing that helps your comfort level more than field experience, so find a 300 yd. range and 50 rounds later you'll be good to go. Keith
  4. If you can't find anything in the gas system or the carrier group, pull the buffer and make sure it isn't coming apart and lube the buffer tube.
  5. Check your firing pin to confirm there is nothing binding or causing it to stick where it would give you a slam fire. I've had this happen to me with a worn firing pin. Keith
  6. What's up with the web page? I get a FORBIDDEN message when I try it. Worked a couple of days ago.
  7. Trapr, you shot with one of the best rifle smiths in the country this month, ask him (Terry Cross). He has my rifle, just as well send him yours. Keith
  8. cottyw, a little late but had a chance to compare the 5.11 watch with a pda running ATRAG at the CMG team match. The watch was a closer fit when you were able to incorporate some hard data (known dial up for specific range). It allowed us to hit the 1180 bonus target and was 2 moa different from the pda at that range. Seemed very easy to use and served the owner well.
  9. Trapr, Seems there was at least one split that was .19. Should we tell time for the stage?
  10. Joel got asked several times who built his rifle and got a big kick out of telling them Remington. Remington 700 PSS 308 with my Mark IV, 4.5 X 14 ill. and 175 gr. SMK's. Had plenty of scope. I shot an AR, Cav arms lower mil spec 20" 1 in 7 light contour barrel with a lightened carrier and JP trigger. My scope was an ACOG TAO1NSN with a j point on top which never got uncovered. The Acog was fine except on the really small stuff on the coal creek stage, might go with a 2.5 X 10 IOR next year. This could be a match where you take more than one scope and decide what to use after looking over the stages. Keith
  11. I've shot all of the "modern" RM3G matches and can't remember a LD target that didn't have some kind of a decent steady rest or at least a place to monopod. Unlike the CMG team match that had 250 yd. off hand shots on 8" steel. Practice getting into a good hold from an unusual position ie; legs higher than head, kneeling behind rest that is 16 to 18 inches off ground, rest is uneven (rocks). Also run around for 15 to 20 seconds before shooting. It's great you'll love it.
  12. RS, didn't feel it was a lot more physical than RM3G, but your not shooting 1000yds. at that match. So yes conditioning would be a benefit to keep your heart rate down and try to show up a day or two early so you can acclimate and get your come ups squared away. I also plan to be back next year. Keith
  13. Trapr, I think there were 3 teams that hit the 1200 yd. bonus target. I know Mel and Joel did can't say who the 3rd. was. Two guys from Kansas that live 5 miles apart, who would have thunk it. Of course Brandon deserves a lot of the credit (dial ups and turret knob manipulation), any monkey can pull a trigger.
  14. Also just returned from the CMG team match, went for a drive in the area Sunday and saw 5 Bears. So much for the wildlife reports. Keith
  15. Cy, if Erik didn't care he would have kept still. He is right, few shooters have Kurt's skill and we mere mortals need any perceived advantage we can find. It is very comforting to step to the line and not worry about hitting the target, and not worrying about it going down when you do hit it. Keith
  16. Your basically screwed with a 1 in 12 as far as anything over the 55's. You can rebarrel an AR for under $200.00 if you do it yourself, suggest you get at least a 1 in 9 so the 69's and 70's will shoot well. If you want the most options put a 1 in 7 on, good from 40gr to 80gr. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but imho it's the best course of action. Keith
  17. We have done it a couple of times and it works well if a quad or golf cart can run down and reset it while the rest of the stage is scored and reset.
  18. What Trapr may mean is that they are not the same as read the day of the match. Plus some of divisions are mixed up.
  19. It's the size of the target not the distance. Usually have at least a 3 moa target at any given distance, as long as that holds true why worry.
  20. Screw the shotgun, lets put the star out at 300 yd. and use rifles. I know I can play that game.
  21. It was a well run match, my hat is off to those hard working souls who knew what to do and when. One suggestion, go back to the Oct. time frame maybe even Nov. I was blessed to shoot with a great squad and learned a thing or two as always. Hope I can shoot it again next year. Keith
  22. I've been using Comp-Tac for several years no matter what the cof. Carry one double mag holder in the same place (behind the hip) so the mags are always where my hand goes. They go on with out removing your belt and come off the same way but always stay put once they are put on. I shoot mostly 3 gun/multi gun but use the same setup for pistol only in limited. Also use their holster. Keith
  23. Trapr, it's strictly a grain farm NO livestock. What goes on behind closed doors is none of my concern and I judge not, just pointing out the old adage about casting stones. Besides it's fun to mess with the Brit's and Mike in particular. Guess I'll try and make it down for the fun, have e-mailed my intentions to Ark. match personal and look forward to seeing everyone if there is room. Keith
  24. Mike, your one to talk, the way I hear it you and Kurt were the odd fellows in Denmark hanging with the married couples and not staying with the rest of the gents. What could one gather from three couples out together? And now meeting in Greece!
  25. Nick, I have this setup on an AR I plan to use for the Raton team match in Aug. and like it very well. I already had the ACOG (tao1nsn) and put the J-point on just this year, played with it quite a bit and has proven to me that it is a viable option. That said I still prefer the Meopta 1X4 for any conventional 3 gun match. For the same or less money there are a lot choices that preform as well or better, just because he is in open doesn't mean he has to run two optics. Setting on top of the ACOG the off set is more extreme (bullet hits lower than poa on very close targets) unless some care is taken to zero the jpoint at close range. I'm still playing with this and haven't decided at what range to zero. If the jpoint is zeroed at 100 yd. han it hits 4 inches low at 10 yd.
