  1. I'm with Geeze. Have your 'smith trim the right side paddle so that it doesn't rub. Probably cheaper than fitting up a whole new safety.
  2. time to bust out the Dremel ... ETA: Just looked at the SA website and the Operator model. Looks like a Wilson ambi to me.
  3. I've used a Safariland and 1st Generation Limcat (with the pin) for Limited. I'm using the DAA now (and belt) and I really like it. My guns required a little fitting for the trigger guard insert but nothing major. Search the forum for "racemaster". There's quite a bit of fairly recent feedback on this one.
  4. If you're a righty, I'm having a hard time visualizing "the left side edge digs into my trigger finger's knuckle...". If you're a righty isn't your trigger finger knuckle on the other side? I'm sure I'm missing something Have you checked with SA customer service to see if they'll sell just the part? or tell you who supplies it if they don't manufacture it in house? ETA: You appear to be a righty in your picture...
  5. Yep - .40 long remanufactured - same here.
  6. As long as "nc" means North Carolina and not Northern California the Classifieds are a great place for you to look around. I've seen more than a few S_I's in the Classifieds and had to keep repeating to myself "I love the weather here. I love the weather here."
  7. I'm an old timer who left and has now returned. I'm doing the same safe clearing to marshall funds for cleaning up my "working" guns and buying new ones! I used to be one of those guys who didn't care what they looked like as long as they functioned. All of my guns are unfinished or partially finished franken guns. They all function and shoot straight but now I want them to at least look decent.
  8. I'm in a similar situation - currently shooting but not in a position to reload for now. I started with "evaluation" packs (boxes of 50) from both Atlanta Arms and Precision Delta to see which functioned or didn't, if I liked one over the other, etc... The AA functioned better in my gun so that's what I ordered in bulk. It's a little hot, but not unpleasantly so. When I finish remodeling the downstairs, I'll have a proper space for a bench and press and that's when I'll open up a tall frosty jug of blue kool-aid
  9. Along these lines, no one has mentioned doing the same to the eye pieces on a pair of binoculars and handing them to someone...
  10. What he said... Any other states have an "approved" list? In CA only the specific models on this list can be purchased.
  11. Great and very informative link/info. I've been wondering what I might expect with a given .40 load when I finally receive (on order - tic, tic, tic...) my 5" limited gun and its companion 6" top end. Thanks
  12. Also in Northern California, but long closed now, the San Francisco Gun Exchange on 2nd Street at Mission was without equal in the region for all manner of firearms and knives. They did the FFL dealer transfer for my first STI open gun in the mid 90's. They also had a four foot wide, four shelf display case dedicated to all of the 1911 parts that I now have to mail order. I used to work one block away and I was in there several times a week. Lunch time was always a packed house with a lot of executive types from the nearby financial district (I wasn't one of them ) and many others from all walks of life. Bob and Beth Posner, second generation owners I believe, were nice people and they also hired nice people but operating any business in SF (much less a gun shop) is a difficult proposition at best. I still work in the area and every time I pass the old location I pause for a moment of nostalgia. Bob, Beth, Sean and Jack - wherever you all are, I've never been in the only other operating gun shop in SF proper. There are two others within a reasonable just south of the city. No offense to these proprietors, but at the time they just couldn't hold a candle to the old SF Gun Exchange for selection.
  13. Not high school, but it's still a good one. Get a glass of milk (or other opaque liquid beverage), cover tightly with plastic wrap. Walk towards someone and "accidently" trip making like you're going to heave the glass in their direction. Also works just as someone joins you at the table and you knock the glass on its side. I can't believe no one has mentioned the "tube of toothpaste under the tire" gag yet....
  14. To add: vaseline on the door knobs/handle or completely filling a teacher's car with packing peanuts I did the crazyglue and coin thing too except I used a penny to see who was cheap enough to go after it.
  15. Lot's of love for that skull grip tape - stylin' I have a similar blaster on order and with DST, it's an hour closer to delivery . (Note to self: ask Brandon for one of those skull grip tapes.)
  16. Like any aerobic activity, cycling can be a great activity for losing weight. I'm no fitness expert, but I believe the key is to ride at a pace that elevates your heart rate to a safe percetage of your maximum heart rate and maintain it for increasingly longer durations. Steady effort over time with intervals of high output are also very effective. Make sure the bike fits properly. There are online guides to proper bike fit or find a local bike shop. They will do it for a nominal fee maybe even for free. Make sure you have a helmet (analagous to eyes and ears for shooting), padded bike shorts (either baggies or lycra) and get to spinning.
  17. Well I figured out why the POI and zero is about the same. I just chrono'ed the AA 180's and they average about 177-180PF or the same as my old load from 10+ years ago. I had assumed that these loads would be closer to the 170PF range but if you're a commercial supplier I guess it's better to load to with a safe PF margin than have a customer not make major. I'm not in a position/situation to resume reloading so I'll shoot these. After the long layoff, I don't think I'm going to miss lightening the load by a few PF points. It was nice not to have to change the sights though.
  18. From a later scene in the same movie (after getting a gun from Burt): Melvin: Burt, you *%%$, it didn't have any bullets! Burt: But it got you running didn't it? The first Tremors was the best.
  19. word - it was rough waking up this am another reason to move to AZ...

  22. I prefer to manipulate the slide either by pinching the front serrations with thumb and index finger from under the slide or by palming the sides and top of the slide (all parts of my had clear of ejection port and behind the muzzle). I have skate tape on the top of the slide between the ejection port and the front sight to aid this operation. When I Unload and Show Clear, I use the pinch to gently eject the live round and hold open for the my and the RO's inspection. Like any manipulation, the necessary safety factors i.e. muzzle awareness and not sweeping myself is in grained by lots of dry fire.
  23. Little K, If you want a never-used car cover for your new ride, send me a PM. Had a red CRX in the late 80's but it was always garaged so I never used the cover. lg
  24. Do you have an adjustable rear sight? If so, zero the gun for the both and record the required adjustments in between so that you can reset to the corresponding zero when you switch ammo. Having returned after a long time off, my gun (limited too) was benched/zeroed for a 200gr moly coated bullet with 4.something of Clays on a WSP. I now shoot loaded Atlanta Arms 180gr jacketed with who knows what powder/primer. Though I need to bench the gun at some point just so I know, it shoots pretty close to the old zero at 10-15yd so I haven't changed the sights yet. YMMV.
  25. NJGG, I've returned to the sport after an extended leave and one of the most amazing and welcome changes that I have noticed is the increased participation of ladies. The only "distraction" I've noticed is that several women shoot better than I do and I am intently watching them as they shoot for tips and strategies - just as I would a better male shooter. Though we are cross coasts, if I ever get to your side, I would consider it an honor to shoot with you. It seems that, at the time, you made your feelings known. It's not your fault that the other guy is clueless.
