  1. It's funny this thread would be two lines down from one about "owning up to mistakes"... which contains the truth: "It seems that shifting the blame is nationally recognized." I admired Tilman and I think he was a good soldier. Which is why I am still waiting to see the knothead commander who insisted that Tilman's force be split up and sent out onto the road in diminishing light be called to account for the blunder he created that wasted Tilman's life (and others). And just punishment should be administered for those who committed the greater offense of lying about the circumstances surrounding the death, even to Tilman's family which included another Ranger stationed in Iraq. But... I'm old, and I ain't holding my breath. In the last five years, I haven't seen anybody who screwed up held accountable for anything.
  2. A lady did that to me and six other people at the mini mart when we were all standing in line to pay for gas..... and she wasn't even famous.
  3. AMEN, Brother! But I thought political postings weren't allowed on this forum?
  4. Dumb question: anybody think of reaming the hole out a couple of thousandths? Like with a tiny round needle file or something similar?
  5. I found a good way to keep the FP channel clear is to take the slide off and then use some brake cleaner spray (or Gunscrubber if you're rich). Press the plastic tube's tip up to the hole and hose cleaner in until it runs out the slide openings. WEAR EYE PROTECTION (DUH!). I have found this keeps the channel really clean for a very long time between detail cleanings.
  6. One of the red-dot sighter makers (Ultra Dot?) showed it as being mounted on a cop's radar gun while he pointed into traffic claiming that would allow him to "pick out" the car accurately.
  7. Would be great if Mr Jarrett would write a short tutorial explaining how to do this magic. We promise not to tell anybody.
  8. "Link" is a term that refers to the point in the trigger's rearward travel where all the slack has been taken out and you suddenly hit firm resistance. It's also used to refer to the reset point as you release the trigger after firing a shot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In an LDA, the "hard wall" is where the trigger draw bar hits the sear. The trigger reset point is WAY farther forward and it is where the drawbar has returned far enough to re-catch the tail hook on the bottom of the hammer. In mine, that physical position is only about 1/10" from the triggers forward most position. That is why it needs such a stiff trigger return spring. It is dragging the trigger bar across the innards all the way forward.
  9. Bob Hunter of Hunter Customs does good work. You can usually find him on the 1911 forum. http://forums.1911forum.com He did the trigger on my Trojan and it has been really good.
  10. Looks exactly like the one I've had in my Trojan for about 30,000 rounds. Not sure of the brand name.
  11. But I seriously don't understand why Dawson or C+S isn't offering one. The primary improvenment would be obtained by changing out three parts: the cocking cam, sear, and hammer spring. Interesting: both of my LDA's sears (original and replacement installed under warranty repair) have a sear face that is a "radius cut", ie rounded not flat. Clearly, a typical 1911 cutting jig will not work on an LDA sear.... you basically have to reshape the curve and keep trying it to dial it in.
  12. I have polished, reworked and lightened all of the above. I suspect we may have different generation guns (my 1640 LDA is one of the year 1999?). On mine, it takes a bit over 3# of trigger force just to move the trigger (and deflect the hammer) up to the point before the sear is engaged That 3+# is the force of these springs: the trigger return spring the hammer "kickback" spring sear spring FP blocking plunger spring Most of that 3+# is in the trigger return spring. On mine, the trigger return requires a very heavy spring to get a positive return. I got mine down to total trigger break pull of about 4.3# and that's as low as it will go with fully reliable ignition. I could go a little lower with a lighter hammer spring, but I could only shoot reloads with soft primers (I shoot factory ammo now).
  13. Here is another thread with info on LDA triggers: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=539&hl=
  14. "Can that "hitch" toward the end of the trigger pull when you hit the "link" be gotten rid of?" I'm not sure I know what link you mean. The LDA trigger assembly is quite complex, but I don't know of a "link". The hammer is two main pieces: an outer hollow "shell" with a solid inner "cocking cam" which is driven by the hammer spring. The slide pushing the hammer back rotates the cocking cam into the cocked positon, setting the hammer (cocking cam's) hook on the sear hook. As the slide comes forward, the outer hammer body is free to come forward to rest against the slide. There are two "cups" on the hammer body which grab the sear, preventing it from accidentally releasing from the cocking cam when the hammer is forward. When the trigger is pulled: 1) The trigger bar starts forward and it's right angle hook catches the hook on the bottom tail of the hammer. As the trigger is pulled, the hammer draws back. Eventually, the trigger bar hook reaches the point where it contacts the sear (that is the break point where the pull gets much stiffer). During the trigger pull, the FP safety "platform" raises up to lift the series 80 block in the slide. 2) As the sear is released from the hammer hook, the cocking cam spins forward (taking the hammer with it) to fire the gun. There is another critical action: as the cocking cam spins forward, a raised edge on the underside of it must drive the trigger bar downward to allow the hammer to pass by the trigger bar and strike the FP.
  15. Jay Krauter knows how to slick up an LDA. He runs the factory Para service center and does work on the side. I used to have his number but it got lost in the move.
  16. I just called Para factory and they say they do not offer any parts which reduce the LDA trigger pull. I called dawson precision and they said the only trigger pull reduction kits for Para are for the stock 1911, not the LDA. Anybody know where there is a reduction kit for the LDA available?
  17. Can you enlighten us as to what parts are replaced? My 1640 LDA has a very stout trigger return spring that eats up at least 1.5# of trigger pull. I would definitely like to know how you got down to 2.5#.
  18. " Apparently it's not exactly possible to order a "base model" as such." AMEN! Then why do they show it on their site, have a long list of "standard features", and a posted price when nobody can actually buy one with that equipment for that price? That's the exact question I asked the people at Lexus.... no answer. They said they would forward my complaint. They said somebody would call me back in two days with an asnwer as to why the employ deceptive advertising... guess what? Nobody called me back. Gee..... never saw that coming. So, on top of them being liars in the marketing of their product, they are also liars who tell you BS when you have them nailed dead cold in a lie and they need to get you off the phone. Color me stunned.
  19. But Lexus engages in outright fraud. Go to their website and you will see they say the MSRP of the 2WD RX330 is about $36k. Now go to the "build your car" section and click on the car and you will see it comes up with a "forced option package" which varies by the ZIP code you typed in. http://www.lexus.com/lexusConfigApp/lexselectpackage.do There are NO zip codes which allow deselecting the premium package, the contents of the options just vary slightly (and the package price varies from maybe $3500 to $5000). So, here is the truth: Lexus quotes a base price for the base model, but they won't build or ship that model to ANYBODY! In reality, the base price is at least $4k higher and they know it. They are a bunch of lying thieves and I filed a formal complaint with them. If I get pissed off enough, I will file one with the attorney general of the state.
  20. Welcome to old age. C-MORE has a 10% discount if you show your AARP card. By the way, if your vision is the only thing failing, you have a lot to be thankful for. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really? Did C-More notice that the AARP has been distinctly anti-gun? Surely there are better ways of proving one's elderly status than by a membership card from an organization which opposes our fundamental human rights. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a joke dude. The good news is, even if the AARP management is anti gun, all you have to do is wait a few days.... by then they will probably forget what they were against in the first place.
  21. It's genuinely amazing how slimy these bozos are. My wife has her heart set on a Lexus RX330, mini SUV. They seem like nice cars, good reviews. Of course, the base sticker is $36k which is kind of pricey. But the good news is the bas emodel comes with everything you could want. The bad news is you can not get the base model. You can't even order it. Both dealers I went to said Lexus will not ship cars without the "Premium Plus" package which bumps the price up about $6k, which is now $42k. And it has a bunch of crap I really don't want like the "moon roof" (read that as the $1000 water leak in your roof), high voltage discharge headlights (I'm not planning to use my car as a movie projector), a $1000 stereo upgrade when my wife only listens to AM radio... So, I call Lexus headquarters and ask why I can't get the base model. They say I can. When I inform them the dealers say that lexus will not supply them, the woman on the phone panics and says someone will have to "get back to me". Prior to that she did admit the dealers are "independent" and Lexus only ships what they order. So, basically, the dealers are saying: You want the car? You take the $6000 garbage package (which by the way is about 80% markup) or you go screw yourself. It's times like this I wish my wife wasn't in charge. I'd have a lot of fun telling the dealers where to stick their premium plus package.
  22. Really sorry to hear about your loss. The Marines seem to be taking most of the heavy fighting in Iraq. The main force seems to be the ones out of Camp pendleton (near San Diego) and so many of those Marines came from around here in northern California. During the big offenses like fallujah we were seeing their biograhies every night on the local news for the KIA's. Rest in peace.
