  1. I shot 38 super in several open guns over the years. The brass was expensive and short lived. I gave away or threw away 1000s of 9mm cases. I'm on my second 9mm open gun and don't worry about finding or collecting my brass. I've made 178 pf, but have since backed it down to 168 pf, and the comp runs fine. I use a 125 grain LEAD bullet and have no leading of the comp with 10,000 plus rounds on this gun in 18 months.
  2. My 550 is over 20 years old. I called and asked for a rebuild kit to tighten up the powder drop mechanism. .. they sent me two brand new powder measure assemblies!
  3. Call Dillon. The warrant is second to none. They'll send it for free. Make sure to thank them!
  4. I'm still carrying the J-frame I bought 20 years ago. I've had a Glock 26, 27, a few S&W 9mms, and I too have recently taken a shine to the Shield in both 9 and 40. But, I call my 442 my Polaroid. .. just point and shoot! No safety, no hammer, no mag release. Nothing to distract from the mission goal, to go bang!
  5. I like blanket statements, it takes all the variables out of the equation.
  6. Still working my way through 8 lbs of Accurate Arms 7.
  7. I glad for you that the gun is back together. On the question of recoil buffers or recoil masters, I have not used either and I was surprised that my new Trubor came with the recoil master removal tool, but a standard guide rod. Makes me wonder if they are getting away from the recoil master concept.
  8. My new Trubor purchase in February was a fiasco! I wanted STI to buy it back! I was at the Florida Open, which was why I bought the gun. What a .... Anyway, fortunately I lived in that area y ears ago and looked up a friend, Paul Whitacre, not only was he a GM but a gunsmith too. Point is, I spent $3,000 on a new gun to shoot the match and it had HAMMER FOLLOW! So, Paul was kind enough to take 3 hours over two nights, for a total of 6 hours to tweak a gun that was advertised as RACE READY. I learned the meaning of "tolerance stacking". I went on to place third in the shoot off, which was a testament to Paul, not STI. And, that was with 125 gr LEAD bullets, at 177 pf to work the comp. I know it sounds like good money after bad, but I suggest spending another $500 to $1000 on parts and gunsmith service, and enjoy that gun for the next 5 years!
  9. A have a stock STI Trubor with a trigger job by a local GM trigger job. He had to do lots of tweaking, but Paul whitacre did a great job, and the gun has had no problems. I shot 38 super before, and 9mm major I awesome.
  10. Glucosamine sulfate, sunblock, cleats. Seriously, buoy need to work up a load for THAT gun. I did lots for research, but came back to an old friend, AA7. I use 9.2 gr under a 125 gr LEAD Georgia Arms bullet and a small rifle primer to make 1400 fps. A little fast, but works the comp.
  11. Shooters Connection had a brand new hard chromed Trubor for sale in April. You could send Chuck an email.
  12. Since STI did not make a short Trubor, you have to determine if you are looking at a Steelmaster, a Matchmaster, or a custom built gun. If you want to shoot 9mm major in open class you don't want a Steelmaster, it is designed for minor loads. Though you can install a heavier recoil spring, you certainly would beat up the lightened slide constantly shoring major loads. If its a Matchmaster, then its a good deal and you probably just need a trigger job. If it was built by a gunsmith from an STI short block, then you will need a lot more info. I am not knocking the Befell gun, you might be very happy with it, but if you are considering the less expensive option, then i gave you some things to consider.
  13. Aftec. Aftec. Aftec. In every STI I have ever owned.
  14. I have a new Trubor and started this very post last month. I found that the stock Cmore mounted needed to be changed since the ejected cases occasionally hit the upside of the mount, so I switched to a horizontal mount. Once I did that, I tried to install Swenson ambi safeties, but found I had no way to rack the slide! So, I NEED to install a slide racker, and have purchased several to see which will be best. I think the Brazos Zigracker will be the best option, just make sure you order the proper one to clear your Cmore mount. If you are not going to change to a horizontal mount, I have a new Zigracker I'll sell you, instead of sending it back... See my caveat above regarding ordering the right part!
  15. I really liked the two Edges that I owned. I do wish that STI offered the front Sabertooth serations as an option.
  16. I can't help but wonder if the recoil management would have been better eith the extra weight at the end if the barrel. Hands down, you win on cool factor! That's the neatest, albeit most confused, Limited gun I've seen in 20 years in this sport. So, to address the weird factor question, I am not concerned with weird looking, as long as it works.
  17. The bull barrel is what I would use. Ive only had them in my limited gun, not a single stac.
  18. I may just have to contact STI. How old was your grip?
  19. I installed a different grip on my 2011, and the last piece to be installed was the mag release, however there must be something wrong with the grip as the mag release pushes right through and way out the left side of the grip. I can only assume thete is a built in stop that is defective. Is there a bushing or other way to repair this issue?
  20. I too had a shorty 9mm major and then a 5.5" Trubor, and found the Trubor shot softer.
  21. I too have a Trubor in 9mm major. Had a host of problems in the beginning, my gunsmith refered to it as tolerance stacking. Once he sorted that out, after 6 hours of repeated disassembly and tweaking, it runs like a raped ape. It is still fastr than I am. I would suggest a Trubor and an immediate visit to a competent gunsmith and get a trigger job and fitment inspection. And buy a Dillon 550 or 650 and start loading for it!
  22. I used the biggest Pro Ears for years, linear elite. But recently one of the battery leads broke and it was too old for Pro Ears to fix. So, I bought the Peltor ears for $60. My ears have been ringing for several months, so I used my Pro Ears yesterday, though only one side "worked". My ears did ring any louder last night, they actually ring less today. So, I'd buy Pro Ears, or something with a 30 SV db rating or higher.
