I did the same thing in 1999, I sent my .38 Super STI slide to Arredondo, he cut it for my Doctor Optic and sold me a double battery mount. I enjoyed it for most of a season, but the cycling was tough on the optic.

I don't know who this was, but thought this was funny to consider concealed carry!

I ordered the same setup, but the original STI mounting holes on the Trubor do not PLACE the RTS2 parallel to the bore. And, I have to flat-top the slide. Did you have to make such modifications? Thanks, Bob

I load 9.1 grain of Accurate Arms #7 behind a 125 gr bullet with CCI SRP for 167pf in a 9mm Trubor. At Area 6, it only chronoed 165.6pf, but that was still enough (whew!). I'll also load 115 gr bullets with the same powder drop for 145pf and use for Steel Challenge, the few times I shot SC. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

I use Georgia Arms 125gr hard lead in my Open gun. And they preform great! They make a couple hard lead bullets for open shooters, much cheaper than jacketed. And don't forget about Berry's plated bullets. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

I put a factory loaded round in the crimping station, with a loose die! I cycle the handle until the round is all the way up. I then rotate the die down until it touches the loaded round firmly. I then cycle the handle down, and adjust the die 1/8 of a turn further down and tighten the lock. I then cycle the handle back up (with the same round in the same station; on the 650, you'll have to manually insert it again) and watch the toolhead lift slightly, with the handle cycled fully. I shot several configurations when I shot Limited, and settled on a bull barrel 6" .40 caliber. Had I found a full dust cover version with a 6" barrel, I would have shot that. The distraction that only comes when you are fully focused on something else. And for me, that goes for both competing and RO'ing at a big match. Sure, I can get my fix shooting 150 rounds in about 30 seconds in an afternoon. But, when I spend the entire day either focusing on a competition or running shooters and keeping things moving, then I achieve complete distraction through complete focus! I loaded 125gr bullets with 9.1 gr of AA7 for a 170pf. I experimented with 115 great bullets with the same powder charge, and they were 152pf. So, I don't have to adjust my 650 press for Major or steel loads, just change the bullets! And both are zeroed right in. I use an 8 lb recoil spring in an STI Trubor. I loaded on a 550 without a case feeder for over 20 years. I miss that press. I traded it for a 650 to load 9mm major. That particular load has given me two distinct and reoccurring problems on the 650. First, military primer pockets suck! At least 10% of my primer pockets gave me issues, and stopping a 650 is a real pain compared to a 550. I tried adding a swager, and processing my brass, but the results weren't great. I paid bucks th of have several thousand pieces of brass swaged. That really helped. Second, powder splash. I have done my best to reduce this with the added bearing and slowing the cycle down by hand. If I had it to do over, I either would have kept my 550 and added a case feeder OR purchased a Dillon 1050, due to the built-in swager. The 650 is a great reloading press for the other calibers, but the caliber conversion is easier on a 550. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

About the underpowered rounds, since you should run the full power runs over a chrono anyway, you might consider running the underpowered rounds over it as well. If the guns cycles and the point of impact close, and they make minor, you may have the recipe for a nice steel load for you gun. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

I had all kinds of problems with my Turbor after I received it new in Feb 2013. It now has a trigger job, and a 90 degree mount, but no other major work, like slide lightening. I did add a slide racker once I added the thumb shield. I use a 17# main spring and either a 7 or 8 pound recoil spring, which I change depending on how the gun feels under recoil. I use a Georgia Arms 125gr LEAD bullet. I've shot about 15,000 rounds with no leading! I use 9.2 gr of AA7. Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

I ran a slide mounted Doctor on a 38 Super years ago, and it lasted two seasons. But, I tried it again recently, but opted for the side mounted Cmore. I personally think Production Optics... read, minor loads... are about as much stress as a slide mounted sight can take. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I had the perfect gun for me for this class, but I sold it to fund an STI for open. My carry gun was a S&W Performance Center 40. I so wanted to slide mount a dot on it for carry, that would have been perfect for this class, and I love me a Stainless S&W! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

My two cents: I used a 550 without a casefeeder for over 20 years, and would load up to 15,000 rounds per year of 40 or 38 Super. Last year I traded it for a 650 with a casefeeder to load 9mm Major. I miss my 550. I used to load so many calibers, quickly enough, but now only 9mm major. And the 650 constantly splashes the powder, even with the bearing upgrade. I didn't have that problem with a 550 loading any caliber, since you turn it yourself. And don't get me started on the HOURS wasted with the swagged range brass stopping the 650! So, if you are loading 9mm, either mafor or minor, or 223, I'd suggest the 1050 due to the swagging. For any other caliber, if you really need to load faster than a 550 with a case feeder, get a 650 with a case feeder. I might even consider a trade, if you want. I used to switch between Limited and Open often in the same season, that was before the horizontal C-more mount was invented. I didn't enjoy Open because I just couldn't find the dot as fast as the sights on my Limited gun. I bought a Trubor 2 1/2 years ago and immediately replaced the factory C-more mount with a horizontal, and I love shooting Open. You might just need to find what you do like and fix that.
