  1. Minor in USPSA sucks the big one. pat Yeah, but USPSA is just pistol practice for me so I'm not that worried. Down the road I wouldn't mind a .40 for major as a dedicated USPSA pistol, but like everyone on a budget I need to take a few hits here and there so to speak.
  2. I pretty much am, but for some reason I can't stop thinking about Tans. The CK as a LOT going for it, where a with a Tan it would be basically up to me to get it running. Parts are out there, but a good 90% of the time when I start doing heavy duty research they are out of stock on things like magwells and grips. I could do it, especially since I am going to run my XDm in at least 3 gun until after FN. Tweaking a gun myself would have a certain level of pride with it, but I know my schedule and having a "done" gun has a certain appeal. Trying to avoid the buy twice cry one wheel, but I have a feeling in the end I'll sell the XDm and put what I can get for it toward a Tanfo. That's after I order a CK, building a Tanfo could be a decent winter project and if I could find a way to have both I could figure out what I like best. Problem with that is I am trying to do about a billion other things at the same time.
  3. So I have settled on going 9mm, now I just need to choose a platform S_I's give me pistol envy, but for some reason Tanfoglios keep calling to me. I really have no idea what to do. I put about 200 round through a Witness Limited a couple years ago, and a couple mags through a 9mm Eagle so far. At this point I am at a loss as to what to do. I am leaning toward a CK Thunder series as its the more expensive option that I can swing and if for some reason I don't like it I know I can recoup my money. That said going Tang and saving some money means more bullets, if I can find the gun and parts in stock. Never had this much trouble selecting a platform in my life. A friend gave me AR disease, but those are just adult Legos.
  4. Not sure if its your thing, but in Charles Town, WV (about 35-40 min east of the range that is hosting the FN Championship) there is a horse track and casino
  5. Granted I'm not an Open shooter (although I very much want to be - bank account says differently), but what kind of stage favors a 140 over a 170? I shoot Limited so its 140s all day everyday, but I can't think of a time I would want less pew pew.
  6. I heard about Detonics awhile ago and I am very interested. With STI on board now I am hopeful they can bring something new to market, and answer my dream of a 1911 striker. In the end for competition usage its going to come down to the trigger, i.e. can the striker setup be just as good as a current 2011, and caliber. So far it appears to be only available in .45 and that will limit its competition use. From reading the article I imagine 9 and .40 versions will be developed quickly, but only time will tell us of they have some viable or not
  7. Good luck with that. Most guys that see I'm running a CZ are terrified that there's no passive safety. 2011s are in the same boat being that with most custom 2011s the grip safety is pinned. Most ROs that I have talked to don't count the grip safety as a legal safety device since most often than not its pinned. Still doing the Tanfo/2011 debate myself
  8. Mine is - I could see where weak hand could give you a different angle of attack so to speak that might be more conducive to quads. I just feel I have better control of the gun, and remount faster by going strong hand
  9. I currently run a Beretta and I admit I choose it when it first came out because to me it was the most ready shotgun out of the box. Like others I just can't get quads to be successful with it, and I admit I am pretty sure I am going to replace it in the off season because of that. Great Shotgun to get in the game with since you just need to slap a Nordic tube on it and you are ready to go, but due to being unfriendly to quads the long term success is doubtful. If I was to do it today I would get a Stoeger from MOA since you can have a nicely equipped ready to race M3k from MOA for Beretta money. So far the M3K has proven itself to be a might fine shotgun, already picking up a couple major match wins. May not be TTI M2 nice, but at a third of the price it's mighty close - heck a M3K is basically a Benelli anyway
  10. Yeah from what I have been able to find that seems to be the favored method for Tanfo/CZ users - I have never been comfortable utilizing it hence my search for someone that chambers a round in a style similar to how I was taught.
  11. Thanks for your opinion, but I have seen too many pistols not stay holstered not to run a level 2 of some kind. WRS is my preference but blade-tech doesn't make it for Tanfos so I need to know if something else is out there, or if a WRS for a different pistol will work.
  12. While I am thinking about it, are there any WRS style holsters out there for Limited/Limited Pro? If I go Tanfo I am debating between those two models, I know the Limited is a little more 3 gun ready, but being that I would end up gutting a lot of it I am considering a Lim Pro. Blade-tech doesn't list EAA/Tanfo under the WRS, but for 3 gun that is the holster style I prefer - seen too many people lose their guns from regular Blade-techs.
  13. Haha yes this ^^^^^ Near the rear sight, not the rear of the slide. Can see what I mean in the vid below - should start at the 1:13 mark where I reload on an empty chamber https://youtu.be/ZXlgLwc0fhM?t=1m13s Yes that is the rear of the slide.. You can rack that way with the Tanfoglios just fine if you want. I shot an XDm (just last week) and you'll find the Tanfoglio a much most stable platform. I don't have any vids that I can find showing a cold table start but I could film one if I remember this weekend. Too bad my shooting was horrible in that vid - Granted its not a ton better normally, but it is better than that usually. When I hear rear of the slide I think of someone pinching the sides of the slide from behind with their thumb and fore-finger. I would appreciate it if you could. There aren't any Tanfo guys around here that I know of, but there are some CZ users that I am trying to get together with to send some ammo down range. I did own a Limited in .40 briefly a few years ago that I was able to put about 200 rounds through just standing there hitting a target. However, I have never been on the gun with one in anything close to a match scenario.

  15. Yeah, I normally go over the top near the rear sight. I wasn't sure if the half slide would give me an issue or not.
  16. Just wondering if any of you guys that are running Tanfos in 3 Gun have any videos up I am thinking about going Tanfo from an XDm for 3 gun, but I am curious to see how you manipulate the slide on empty chamber starts. Also the CZ/Tanfo bent/curved safety on abandonment, I used to shoot a 1911 in single stack so I'm familiar with the 1911 style safeties.
  17. I went through this same debate myself, actually still going through it. I am planning on going 2011 because I am primarily a 3 gunner (I use USPSA matches as pistol practice) and more often than not I am starting on a empty chamber. Due to the half slide I found that I was having difficulty grabbing the slide to charge the gun after dumping a shotgun or rifle. Plus lack of parts/support worries me, I hope someday that changes but if I can scrape the cash together to make the trip to Blue Ridge/Rockcastle/SMM the last thing I want is some small part breaking that ends my match because is the one thing I don't have in my parts bag. The support that 2011s have available I have confidence that anywhere I go I can get my hands on any part I may need. All that said, if I was only playing pistol games I would go Tanfo in a heartbeat. I think they have a lot going for them, and with the popularity of Tanfos/CZs in production I think its only a matter of time until the support problem is fixed. Given EAAs HORRIBLE support something tells me it will be the CZs that come out on top of the two, but time will tell. Like others have said with Ben coming on board I am still hopeful that Tanfo somehow forces the EAA support issue.
  18. Well my Nordic is on the way Hopefully I won't have any issues running it with my Gas Hog, fixed gas and Youngs Standard BCG. Plus a steady diet of Freedom 77gr .223 I know I don't need to go that heavy of a round - I have always preferred heavier bullets
  19. If long term your planning on branching out into 3 gun I would say slap a mag well on it and take the points hit in the USPSA Limited If your only going to play pistol games I would just go Production Or you could send it off to Springer Precision (or Canyon Creek if Rich is taking orders again) and have it turned into an Open gun.
  20. I believe Springer Precision is working on a 170mm extension. At least he was last I was looking at doing an Open XDm
  21. I just did mine myself. Might not be as bright and shiny as some that are out there only because my dremel was having issues when I was polishing things. Its plenty smooth, just not mirror finished like some. Jesse Tischauser has a great video on how to open up a port yourself. He used a Stoeger for his example, but the technique is the same for a Beretta - you just have to make sure you don't take out the SN. Before: After: I still need to work over the hand guard some as when I go to quad load the rounds still in my hand as I push in the first two crash against the hand guard edge where it overlaps the receiver. Simple enough to blend, I've just been too lazy to do it. About to be out for a month as I recover from surgery so I figure I will make it happen then to try to keep from going stir crazy.
  22. The solution to not shifting your grip with reloads is a mag release button. If you mag release isn't threaded then you will need to get one of those or drill and tap the one you have. The button depending on the style you choose can be cut down and trimmed so that it is just the size that you need. Jeff I've got the Dawson Low Profile Button currently on the gun. Maybe I need a longer release or a larger button. Did you want the Low Pro button, or is that how it came? Planning on ordering a CK here soon and I will want a bigger button
  23. You may want to check out Universal Ammo as well. They make a 9mm for production, and if its as good as their .40 you should be very happy. I personally had some issues with Freedom .40 reman'd ammo, but their new 556/223 has ran fantastic for me. I have never had an issue with Universal's new or reman ammo. Word of warning though if it matters to you, Universal does not have the option for new or reman. It depends on what brass they have, although the price will reflect if its new or reman - with reman naturally being cheaper. I personally prefer new due to a bad experience with reman in the past, but I'm yet to have a problem with the Universal reman that I have.
  24. Universal Ammo makes a .40 Long for STI users in both major and minor. I have been running their standard length in my XDm and I have been very pleased with it.
