  1. When I was talking to my 2011 builder he stated that the MBX's have run very well for him. He was enthusiastic enough that I bought 6 9mm 140mm MBX mags for my new pistola when it arrives. And before someone asks - It was Bobby at CK/Freedom Arms
  2. Count of the round?? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Looking forward to my second year at FNH. Last year was amazing, besides driving my buddy to the hospital.... There won't be any slides this year I hope. Well if you are feeling nostalgic the slide is still up at PNTC....
  3. Already has a trigger job from Rich at Canyon Creek, along with a bunch of other mods. I ended up ordering a CK Arms Thunder series a couple weeks ago in 9mm. I use USPSA/Knockdown Steel matches for practice so it just made sense to me to go 9mm. After all the only game I shoot where it matters is USPSA.
  4. I ran my 1301 for a year without touching the loading port and I never had a problem dropping deuces. Opening it up made it easier because I could get my thumb deeper to push the shells into the mag tube, but its not a absolute must before you shoot a match with it. Opening the load port really helps with quads though. I like the safety placement as I find taking it off is intuitive for me (long fingers), and re-engagement when abandoning feels more natural as well. Just my opinion - YMMV
  5. Never had a problem with my 1301 that Mark refers too - maybe I am just lucky. Being that you are not going to be doing anything than putting a Nordic tube on I would go 1301, as others have said they are more ready out of the box. That said I would only run a 1301 as a "starter" shotgun that you use until you can get a M2 set up. I have done as much opening on my load port as I dare too and I just can't get quads to go properly, whereas the M2 can be more open making quads go.
  6. Yes there are SS options from STI
  7. Anyone have anything to say good/bad/ugly about these now that they have been out for a bit? Looking for a new EDC and I am really interested in these, however I have not heard any range reports other than davesco above saying his 9mm ran good in an IDPA match. I tend to favor .45 for EDC, but I am considering going .40 instead.
  8. Just as an option, Universal Ammo offers a 9mm major load for Open guns. Might be worth shooting them an email/phone call
  9. I talked to my builder today and he gave me his recommendation for mags so I am going that route. Well aware 170s are a no go
  10. +1 What about going something other than a 12ga? I know of a well known shooting family that recently set up a 20ga for their littlest one. Might be worth considering.
  11. Yeah I know I don't need big sticks, but I am coming from an XDm so to get 140s my only option is a big basepad. My preference is a long tube with a thin basepad - I seem to maneuver them better with my weird small palm/long finger hands.
  12. Gah even in my free time I can't escape work. 6 of the 10 stages are named after shows my employer airs, which in all reality is a good thing. After all people watching = job security
  13. So about to order a my first 9mm 2011 for 3-gun, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to set the mags up. I could really use some help here. 2011 I am buying is a CK Arms, and they use KKM barrels (if that matters). I like the idea of a longer tube with a small basepad over a standard tube with a large basepad.
  14. Has anyone tried the new 9mm MBX's with a KKM? Trying to figure out my mags, and I am really attracted to the spacerless design of the MBXes. While I am at it, are MBX good to go now in general? I remember shortly after they came out people were having some problems. I thought I had seen that MBX got the bugs worked out, but I haven't been able to verify it yet.
  15. About to order my first 2011, and the one I will be getting has a KKM barrel I remember reading on here somewhere that KKM barrels and some mags didn't work so well together so I want to make sure I get the right mags. This will be my 3 Gun pistol so I am going 9mm, if that matters.
  16. Sounds like you have most of this already if you are building lowers, but this kit: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/general-gunsmith-tools/gunsmithing-tool-kits/ar-15-m16-critical-tools-kit-prod41214.aspx is godsend for doing a build.
  17. Ok so after you drop whatever on your shiny new pistol, at some point parts are going to wear and need to be replaced. You know extractors, springs, firing pins, etc. That has led me to start wondering if a Tanfoglio or a 2011 is easier to work with. I'm not talking about locating the parts, but once you have them the actual install portion. I know some of you have both and I would love to hear your take on the subject.
  18. I've been running a 1301 for 1.5 years and I like it. That said for the life of me I have been unable to get quads to work. In all fairness some of the problem is me and my technique, but not all of it. Only problem I ever had was my first match with it and it was self induced. I had cleaned it thoroughly before the match and I did not put lube in a spot that needed it on the bolt. Once I got that sorted it has been flawless.
  19. HAHA That's one thing Tanfos have going for them - Down the line I could pick up a .40 top end relatively cheaply if I wanted to. 2011s have so much available though its hard not to go that route, including some things that are just not out there for Tanfos. I am really leaning toward getting a CK, but seeing if I can get sell off an item or two and get a Tanfo as a project gun. I know me and no matter what I do I will be wondering about the other side so to speak.
  20. Good luck with that. Most guys that see I'm running a CZ are terrified that there's no passive safety. 2011s are in the same boat being that with most custom 2011s the grip safety is pinned. Most ROs that I have talked to don't count the grip safety as a legal safety device since most often than not its pinned. Still doing the Tanfo/2011 debate myself I was doing the Tanfo/2011 debate and I went with a Trubor 9mm. My biggest determining factor is the amount of parts and the number of gunsmiths. I think I made the best decision for me; so much so I looking at getting an Akai Custom. I went to his shop and holy crap; his custom builds are very nice. On another note, I don't understand pinning the grip safety. If you grab it then it will shoot; that's one mod I will not be making. I never understood pinning it either. If you have proper grip then its not a problem, its not something I would do either. I still can't choose between the two although I am leaning toward a 2011, mostly as I have looked over the last couple of days there are no Limiteds or Lim Pros to be found. Plus because my biggest fear is leaving my pistol behind when I shouldn't thus earning a trip to Dairy Queen I really want level 2 retention and I just can't find a level 2 holster for a Tanfo. Anyway - BRING ON MORE GUN PORN!
  21. Pardon me while I feel old Pre-electro paintball guns were all single trigger. I wasn't until the electros came out that the double trigger began to surface, mostly because players found that with the electro trigger they could "walk" it by using the index and middle finger and reach pretty high rates of fire. Same to could be done with the RT triggers that existed in a few pure mechanical guns that were around, mainly the Tippmans and Automags, although especially in the case of Tippmans the RT system could be set to were there was a "sweet" spot that you could hold your finger and go full auto. The ultra high rates of fire, which has since led to RoF capping, is great for paintball on an air field but it lacks the control needed in 3 gun. Also don't forget that circuitry to utilize an electric firing system can't withstand the forces involved with recoil.
  22. It will see time in other shooting games, but its main goal in life will be 3 gun and will be set up for such. Even though it will me a 9mm 3 gun pistol, being that it will also fall in USPSA Limited it will get run in USPSA Limited for pistol practice and that kind of thing. Maybe that's the better question - in the end what would make a better 3 gun platform? If part of "standard procedure" is to replace the guts on any Tanfo then it seems like it comes down to which option is the better barrel fit. Unless I am missing something
  23. Well, if it's already setup to run STI mags then couldn't an aftermarket barrel manufacturer put out some 40 and 9 barrels almost immediately? The breech face would be different obviouslt, but I would think that you could at least make a 40 work, right?Between this and the new Kalashnikov I don't know which I want more! My simple understanding of things says its not that easy. From what I understand 9 and 40 frames are basically interchangeable, but when you go .45 the frame itself has to grow to support the larger round. Well in this case to go from .45 to .40 the frame has to shrink some or it ends up being too heavy and people hate it. That said I am fairly sure the STI can get other caliber options put together in fairly short order.
  24. Maybe I am off here, but my understanding is that most folks are putting EGW/Henning/Xtreme internals in Limiteds anyway. If that is the case than using SA internals and adding a magwell is no big deal to a Lim Pro. Really trying to understand what any of the Tanfo models have to go through to be 3-gun ready. If it helps think about getting any Tanfo model ready for USPSA Limited division, not interested in a Production gun/rules.
  25. Since I keep eye balling Tanfos for 3 gun (although no luck finding any in stock when I go price checking) I have a question. What in the world is the difference between a cone barrel (Limited) and a straight barrel (Limited Pro)? I assume that the cone is supposed to give a tighter lock-up and be more accurate, but I have no idea really. Also given that my main game is 3 gun, would a Lim Pro be a better choice v a Limited? I realize that the Lim Pro would need "more" done to it, but odds are I would be switching a lot of the guts in either model anyway, unless I misunderstand what all folks are doing to these guns. Still trying to solve my platform dilemma
