    P18 9mm?

I'm looking for a hi cap 1911 style in 9mm for 3G and I'm not ready to move to an STI. Any thoughts about the Para for this need? Thanks for you help
  3. Two upcoming matches that I'm aware of are on the weekend of the 17th & 18th of March. The first is being held at the Spearpoint Ranch near Barnard, it will be a 3G-4G match with the 4th gun being LR rifle stages out to 1200yds. The match on the 18th at the CKGC in Hutchinson is a 3G match with stages from point blank to 300 +/- yds.
  4. Jeff did a lifter for me also, very fast turn-a-round and GREAT quality product!
  5. Newbie here My google fu must be as weak as my shooting abilities, GT windmill??? Just trying to see what I'm going to be up against in April.
  6. Another member of the "started with an 1100 only to change to a Benelli as fast as I could club". Don't get me wrong, I still have one that I have hunted with for years w/o a problem. My experience is that there is night and day difference between the uses and the 1100 just requires too much to make it run 100% of the time. The $ that I spent on it was one thing, but the frustration and aggravation that I experienced when it failed just plain took the fun out of it. Seems like we hear it all to often in any of the shooting sports, "Buy once, cry once".
  7. Racquetball 3X's a week for agility and to improve cardio Weight training 2x's a week to build my support side and to help get out of some of the firing positions that we get into quicker.
  8. Thanks for the heads-up, will check into that. I did ask the instructor about it later in the year and that was the reason he gave me so I didn't press it...
  9. Application mailed What is the minimum size Buck required for this match?
  10. ^^^ I have joined IDPA also completed & passed the RO safety class but didn't recieve the little white sticker because I failed to classify this year. More incentive I guess...
  11. Gentlemen Thanks for your replies I was not aware of the rules issue nor had I considered the point of view of a true novice. I'll be looking for the next one in my area. Mike
  12. I've been shooting IDPA for about 1 year now in CDP and have yet to classify. I have only shot in local matches and have no plans to shoot at a higher level. I shoot just to improve my shooting abilities and to gain better familiaritiy with the gun in mildly stressful situations. I understand that it is a competition and that there are some that live and die by how they fare against the field, I'm just not one of them. Knowing this do I really need to shoot the classifier?
  13. Dan Is it possible to compress the GR & spring and insert into the slide before the barrel by retaining it similar to the way that is done on some officer's model 1911's vs. making a 2-piece one?
  14. Thanks for the help, will send in an app. with member # pending and follow up after it's recieved.
  15. We have a bunch in, still have slots left though I have 2 divisions recognized so far. Once we have stages approved and such, we'll send out the self squadding notices (hopefully mid January) and then you can count heads in the divisions... No T-shirts. The 8 stage desginers are still working, so no final numbers yet, but it should be pretty balanced between the 3 guns, 100+ for sure. You'll start to see stages show up on the webpage, with their stage sponsors and high quality renderings, in about a month. You will need some buckshot and slugs, but not yet sure of the counts on those. We have some VERY nice rifles that will be coming from Noveske, who stepped up as the Title sponsor. One will be going to the shoot-off winner, and they will be unique! Continued thanks to MGM for their steel. Thanks also to Stag Arms and Predator Tactical for their sponsorship! Just FYI, these companies stepped up early which helps a lot, so many thanks! Match looks great! Just joined USPSA so I could enter but don't have a member # yet so I can't fill out the entry form. Can I get on a waitng list until # arrives if needed? Mike
  16. Like many on this site golfers use the winter months for equipment upgrades. I picked up a great Bushnell compact model from a buddy that had purchased a gps/laser combo. So a call to the local golf course might lead to a real bargain.
  17. The XDM does not use a captured spring. Multiple choices in spring weights and guide rods are available, though it seems that stock or 16lb are the best overall choice. What advantage is it switching to a 1911 diameter guide rod? Since this guns purpose is not weight restricted I thought that the longer GR would not only add weight and fill out the end of the slide it would also allow me to change the recoil springs as well and Rich's reply would seem to confirm that.
  18. Thanks for posting the build specs. I've got a similar one in the making but had a couple questions. Mine will be a 9mm used for "outlaw" 3Gun with the goals of hi capacity and low recoil. I'll be using the CC 140 extensions for increased capacity, CC stainless mag well and am planning on a tungsten guide rod of some type. Would there be any gain in using a longer guide rod to "fill out" to the end of the slide vs. the standard length and could this be done using one from the XD/XDm .45 acp model GR's? I would also like the ability to change recoil springs as well. Way of base or is this a workable plan???
  19. No "hacking" at all, the reference to using simple hand tools was to indicate how easily it could be done with even the most basic of skills...
  20. I understand the issue of a large front sight covering too much of a target regardless of the size of the rear opening. My question was if it would be just as easy to acquire the target with a larger rear opening and the original front sight vs. a smaller front sight with the original rear sight? Given that the rear sight can be opened up with simple hand tools rather than buying a new front sight?
  21. Please excuse this if it is a foolish question, but wouldn't just opening up the rear sight vs. replaceing the front with a narrower one at the distances we shoot work just as well??? I shoot BPCR silhouette with iron sights and that's how we address the light issues.
  22. OK, forget the comparison between the two. I guess it's not fair to expect that an $800.00 marketed competition model would perform as good as a $400.00 XD Tac with a $120.00 trigger... I disagree that all stock guns have a heavy trigger and I have no idea what the ipsc trigger req. is or the relevance of the country of origin. I do aggree however that it does have excellent potential to be modified into a good competition gun. What is unreasonable, is to call it a competition model from the factory with the trigger provided.
  23. Just picked up my 5.25 Saturday and headed to the range for a side by side comparison. Started the session with the Tac 9mm and shot a few FAST drills just to get a benchmark. The tac has been mod'ed with a Powder River UM trigger, tungesten guide rod and funneled mag well. The 5.25 was out of the box stock using the same ammo in both guns. After a few drills with the 5.25 I was less than impressed... I will acknowledge that the Tac is not stock by any stretch but the 5.25 is hyped as a "competition" model and while the gun handles well, the trigger is a complete disappointment. It seems that perhaps the "5.25" designation for this gun does not only stand for the barrel length but more appropriately means "5# trigger and .25" reset". How SA could call this gun a competition model with the supplied trigger is farce. So be aware that if you purchase one of these that on top of the original price you will need to factor in the price of a good aftermarket trigger to even begin to realize the potential of this much-hyped firearm...
  24. This system looks like it would work as good or possibly even better on a molle chest rig instead of a belt?
  25. I've been running on since May with no complaints. Like the idea of steel vs. aluminum to match the expansion rate of my steel barrel, just wish it had a clamp on design vs. set screws. Very low profile!
