  1. In Steel Challenge, we allow for an "alibi". ...which is a reshoot for a malfunction. We don't count not putting ammo in the chamber as a malfunction. That is covered under brain fart...no alibi. (not sure that is in the glossary. LOL) So in your opinion, is racking the slide after the brain fart reloading?
  2. With the disclamer that it is hard to tell from a picture, that looks pretty bad. I am supprised that with an open gun he didn't AD. To me it looks like the RO is not looking at the gun. I see so many people do that when they run people. They look at everything but the gun. Me, I try to look at the gun as close to 100% of the time as I can. When I can't see it I am trying to get in a better position so I can.
  3. Thanks for all the information, I tried to keep an open mind but it's hard as we all have an opinion when we see something. My opinion when I saw it was confused. I did not think what he did was unsafe as the gun was pointed in a safe direction, but I did think it was a DQ under 10.5.9. After reading this post I don't think it was a DQ. To me the idea behind a DQ is that someone does something that is not safe. I find it interesting that you can clear a jam from a gun with your finger on the trigger as long as you are pointed at the targets but you can't reload the gun with your finger on the trigger even if the gun stays on target. Personally I think you should get that finger out of there to do anything but fire the gun. To me the interpretation that racking the slide after you have reloaded and tried to fire a shot is not the act of reloading is correct. Did the gun malfunction? I have to say yes, the trigger was pulled and it did not go off when it was expected to. It's funny they don't define malfunction in the rulebook. The define a bunch of other stuff that seems at least as obvious.
  4. Finger is used a lot but it's not a range command. 8.6.1 Allowed at any time. Communication is not restricted to range commands. Jim Saying "finger" pretty much says that the finger was in the trigger guard, thats is all it takes to be a DQ. 10.5.9 says nothing about "on the trigger". There was no question the finger was in the trigger guard. I am not fond of gray in rules. Either it's a DQ or it's not. On the surface the rulebook defines this as not safe if he is reloading. So back to the original question, is racking the slide reloading? On the surface this looks like it says it is: Reloading . . . . . . .The replenishment or the insertion of additional ammunition into a firearm. But the ammo is already in the gun, just not in the chamber, so is racking the slide reloading? Are you inserting ammunition into the firearm? To me it's not a malfunction that the slide did not lock back. A lot of people don't want their slides to lock back.
  5. I have spend some time searching but not finding so here is the question. I saw a shooter run his gun empty and the slide did not lock back. He put a mag in it but did not rack the slide. Pulled the trigger, of course nothing happend. With finger still in the trigger guard and close to, if not on, the trigger he racks the slide. The gun was pointed over the targets but in their general direction. So is the act of racking the slide reloading? Kind of seems like it to me but I am pretty new at this game. If so is he a DQ?
  6. My guess is the famous: "Failure to Do Right" And on topic, I just put a piece of grip tape over the front strap on my 3 Trojans. I have one with 20k+ rounds downrange that is just getting better over time. If the cast frame is going to loosen up it is going to be a while.
  7. I agree on the lottery part. I have an SV limited gun that I bought used. That just made me want to spend the 3-4k on a single stack build from them. <<45s just seem to run better>> A .40 runing with 10mm mags and loaded to the same OAL as a .45 runs just as good if not better than the .45. I can run 180's or 165's in the .40 which are about 20% to 25% less cost than the 230g 45's I used to run. A little more snap, a little less push. 40 brass runs a little less as well. I try and shoot at least 1k rounds a month on average and 25% less cost is nice.
  8. I just started loading .40 so I did a lot of reading here and took a guess at a load. I have a lot of Tightgroup so that is where I started. I loaded some dummys @ 1.135, 1.14, 1.145, and 1.15. I took these and hand cycled then through the gun. The 1.15 rounds would not work in my Tripp .40 mags They hit the front of the mag. The 1.14 fed the best. They just seemed to have the least amount of drag when hand cycleing the gun. The 1.135's kind of hung up on the ramp as they hit it. I am sure the 1.135's would have run. I have a couple of Tripp 10mm mags on the way so I can try loading longer (around 1.2) so I can have one load for the SV Limited gun and the Trojan. From reading it looked like I would need to end up about 4.7g of tightgroup to get to 170pf , so I loaded up some rounds with 4.5g @1.14 to start with the went and shot them. I shot 2 10 round strings and the averages were 955 and 957. With a 180g bullet that looks to be around 172pf. It is a cool (43f) sunny, low humidity day here in NC. No over pressure signs on the brass I picked up. When I shoot through my crono I put up a target at 15 yards. The 4.5g load was in about 2.5" off hand so I think I am done. The load felt like more of a push than a snap. A bit more push than the 9mm minor I was shooting but not all that bad. I will probably load some with 4.4 and 4.3 just to see what happens.
  9. Its a good video, the flip and catch is not an issue for me. Not waiting for the RO to see clear and not waiting for the "if clear" command is. If I was the RO I would stop the shooter and ask politly that he show me a clear gun and wait for the "if clear" command.
  10. The GA match was very well done. 5 or 6 shooters and 4 to 6 workers. I think 10-12 is a very good number for a squad and even better if only 5 are shooting (;-)). Much more than 10 or 12 shooters, and it just takes too long to shoot the match.
  11. Another vote for 124 CMJ's Just got another case yesterday. The cost is very close and no exposed lead is nice.
  12. I have been to uspsa.org and seen the division results but can't seem to find the "unofficial combined results ". Has anyone seen them posted anywhere?
  13. I went back are read your original post. I think, a lot of shooting, very little sitting around, scores posted fast, lots of very good RO's, great stages, and perfect weather. I think that lives up the to the expectation you set.
  14. I agree, 5 to 6 person squads are cool. It was nice to just be able to shoot and not tape etc. I got to feel like a rock star for a day.
  15. I have had my Colt "Rail Gun" for about 18 months now. I had the trigger done though the stock one was not bad, just too heavy at 4lbs. I have had one failure of a part. The "U" in the slide stop broke off. I had about 7k rounds through it when it failed. I replaced it and have had no other issues. It is a very good shooting gun that runs as close to 100% as anything I have shot. Accuracy is about 1" at 15 yards off a bench about 2" freestyle. I clean it about every 1k rounds, it got new springs at 5k. I can't remember the last time I had a failure other than the slide stop.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions. I also am having the loading area opened up a little and smoothed off. It was pretty sharp. I want to be able to load 8 in under 5 seconds too. That may take a while. It took forever to get loading 4 under 5 seconds. Anyway, I think it is cool that the top shooters are so willing to help us slow guys learn.
  17. I like the new format a lot. I have watched both shows a few times and found things to work on each time. It's also nice to know the pros make mistakes just like me. I just make them a lot slower. Kurt's loading segment was very good and I took some time off my loading by watching it a few times. Now I just have ot get the blister on the top of my thumb to get better so I can practice more. Thanks Kurt!
  18. Anybody know if this match is still going on. I looked at their site and did not see results for the last couple of months. It is a 2+ hour drive and I want to make sure the match is still going on.
  19. I just finished a class with Manny and it was pretty amazing what he could do for me in 2 days. Having someone watch and be able to diagnose my problems, then give me a way to fix them was very valuable. I still have to do the work but I now have the tools.
  20. At a Manny class I learned that Manny does this with his Airsoft. No pellets just pulls the trigger and watches the front site lift!! Plus he sells Airsoft and backs the product. I did a Manny class last weekend and got to see the airsoft thing first hand. It goes slow enough so you can see the sight lift with no problem. I can see where it would help a lot on getting the transition timing correct. Sights lift, move your eyes to the next target, let the gun catch up. I tend to want to move my eyes before the sight lifts. It tends to turn an A into a D or a Miss?
  21. I try to help with the stage except for 3 runs. 1: When I am on deck 2: When I shoot 3: Just after I shoot to reload mags and get ready for the next stage That way I never go to the line with unloaded mags.
  22. Tech from TacSol called and the upper will be on it's way to them on Monday.
