  1. No disagreements with any of the choices given so far. I use a Smith & Wesson Model 10 w/4" barrel in SSR, with Pachmayr Grippers. The main reason I use that platform is that was what I carried on duty for quite a few years. Safariland Comp III speedloaders, but I have also used HKS (I used the HKS model speedloaders on duty)
  2. psksy2: add 2 more seats to the reservation list at Corky's for Friday night. She Who Must Be Obeyed will be with me, and will be in need of ribs after a day at either Graceland or the Memphis Zoo (or are they the same place )
  3. "A properly balanced sword is the most versatile weapon for close quarters ever devised. Pistols and guns are all offense, no defense: close on him fast and a man with a gun can't shoot, he has to stop you before you reach him. Close on a man carrying a blade and you'll be spitted like a roast pigeon--unless you have a blade and can use it better than he can. A sword never jams, never has to be reloaded, is always ready. Its worst shortcoming is that it takes great skill and patient, loving practice to gain that skill; it can't be taught to raw recruits in weeks, nor even months." Robert A. Heinlein, "Glory Road" That last sentence also applies to handguns and sports like IPSC/IDPA/NRA Action, etc, IMHO. And yes, I've seen "Raiders of the Lost Ark" What do you think would have happened to Indiana Jones if the sword waver in the bazaar, had been at arms length? Blue Ridge, I'm curious too...which blade? A long time ago I tried to learn the foil and epee...never got any good at it. But it was fun. Good luck!
  4. My 10th edition copy of W.H.B. Smith's "Small Arms of the World" (copyright 1973) has what JimmyZip is referring to (I think) Chapter 36, Israel from page 464: "The Israelis developed a modified copy of the Smith & Wesson Military and Police pistol, which is unusual in that it is chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. The use of this rimless cartridge requires the use of two three-shot clips similiar to that used with the U.S. caliber .45 Colt and Smith & Wesson service revolvers. This revolver, which bears Israeli Security Forces markings, is apparently basically a police weapon." A photo of this revolver is on page 465, with a three-shot clip shown also.
  5. I'd like to add my compliments and thanks to the entire crew at the Indiana Sectional. From registering to RO'ing to chrono to the lunch, it was a first class operation. The stages (from the point of view of a B-class wheelgunner) were a fair mix of shooting challenges. Lots of steel, very few no-shoots (I still managed to hit one ) and a good mix of near and far targets. Most stages gave you multiple choices on where to engage targets. I do not believe that anyone can claim they did not get enough trigger time in, with 268 rounds in ten stages. If my squad was any indication, most shooters fired more then that. Diana and I had an excellent day at the range (even if my results may not have been that good) She'd like to thank the RO's who provided her with neosporin, bactine, and offers of bandages after her slip, slide and fall on "Can't Stand Still" Really, Diana can walk and even chew gum, she just had a little problem with making that corner at speed. Her "range rash" is starting to heal, and it does make for a neat story about the match. I'd also like to thank Nashville Bill, for loaning me a replacement revolver, after mine had a major breakdown on "Have a Drink on Me" Using Nashville Bill's spare revolver I was able to finish the match. My ammo in Bill's wheelgun even provided a higher Power Factor then it does in my own revolver Squad 9 was a great bunch to spend a day at the range with. Everybody taped, painted, reset steel and even tried not to get in each other's way during the walk-thru's. That was nice. The two juniors were a pleasure to shoot with, even if one was "much older" then the other. We will be back again.
  6. Actually there will be at least three of us Kentuckian's trying for REVOlution bragging rights of the Commonwealth. So with any luck I will be able to tell the home folks that I finished in Third Place
  7. Jake. I'm signed up, ready to show how "NOT" to shoot a revolver. Starting with being left-handed, and then we will see what else I can do wrong Diana will be with me, but she still insists on using that bottom-feeder. I've tried to bring her over to the REVOlution, but so far, no luck. Right now, we're planning on shooting Saturday, but I need to check her work schedule before squadding up. BTW, we had a good time there last year. Even with the heat, it was a great match (as long as I try to forget about a certain Texas Star...22 rounds and still a plate left hanging )
  8. While I do not currently use WW 231 in 9MM, I did work up some loads in 2004 with that powder. 4.7 grains WW 231 115 grain Zero FMJ/RN CCI Small Pistol primers Browning Hi-Power: 1132 FPS for a PF of 130.180 Glock G-34: 1140 FPS for a PF of 131.100 As always, chrono your loads to make sure this load works in your pistol.
  9. Happy Birthday, and best wishes to a classy wheelgunner. (or is that sassy.... )
  10. Chills1994, HKS makes a speedloader, model # 25M for use with .45 auto rim ammo. (Brownells stock #392-100-025AA)
  11. This is not looking good. First the Shakey Bridge. Just because I look like a drunken sailor trying to do the hula dance when I'm on it...and that's before I try to hit anything from it Next a Teeter-Tooter. I haven't tried one of those, but I have a real bad feeling about this. Then a Texas Star with a No-Shoot. OK, you've convinced me. This will be fun.
  12. 1) USPSA (B Classification) IDPA (SSR, Sharpshooter) some NRA Action Pistol and PPC 2) USPSA one or two times monthly during the season (March to October) IDPA every other month 3) USPSA one or two state/sectional matches 4) No, but still hoping 5) Yes. Planning on trying ICORE this year 6) It's fun, challenging, and different. In USPSA you have to approach stages in a completely different way then you would if you were equipped with a Limited pistol, for instance. In IDPA, due to different stage design guidelines, it isn't quite as difficult to plan out a stage (IMHO) but it's still different and fun. Viva La REVOlution!
  13. Preliminary plans include: Indiana Sectional Ohio Sectional local matches Sam's match (depending on the schedule)
  14. I've been known to tell people that the reason I shoot Revolver division is so that I can spend twice as much time on the CoF as the bottom-feeders. And I always have a sun-dial available in my bag, in case the timer malfunctions. More time at the range...that is a very good thing. Come out, have fun and welcome to the REVOlution!
  15. I don't have any problem getting up there and shooting...it's the hitting that's the problem!!! When I told Diana about this match, she laughed and said to add that one to the list. She likes The Shakey Bridge...since she's beaten me on every stage that's featured that infernal device So you're looking for 20 or so wheelgunners....seems like we've done that in Ohio before.
  16. CFL....that's a relief. I was just worried that it was another version of "THE SHAKEY BRIDGE!!!!"
  17. Add my very best compliments & congratulations to a very classy pair of wheelgunners.
  18. I agree with Sargenv, it's nice to get to spend twice as much time at the range, firing the same CoF as the bottomfeeders, for the same amount of $$$. And I like the challenge of shooting the wheelgun. As has been said earlier, there really isn't much margin for error with the six-gun. Breaking down a CoF into 6 round (or less) segments works your planning skills. It's nice to see how you do against all other shooters, but in the end, you are only competing with yourself and the other wheelgunners. If USPSA and IDPA revolver divisions are not where you want to be, there is ICORE. NRA Action Pistol is (IMHO) very revolver friendly. It's fun to be a Follower of The Way of The Wheel. (even if I do also play with Glock's in GSSF, IDPA SSP, & USPSA Production, 1911's in USPSA SingleStack & L-10....I'm not a REAL faithful wheelgunner )
  19. SSR: .38 special Smith & Wesson Model 10-8, 4" heavy barrel, Pachmayr Grippers. Yellow paint on the front sight. Action job done at FLETC Glynco, around 1994. Safariland 540 holster (long gone from the catalog) Davis double speedloader holder, in front of holster. (also no longer made) Safariland single speedloader holder in back of holster (model 371-2) 1 3/4" lined belt, Bianchi or Safariland (whichever one I get out of the dresser that morning) Safariland Comp-III speedloaders in the Davis double holder either HKS Second-Six or Safariland Comp-II speedloaders in the Safariland single holder. I have shot a few matches carrying my speedloaders in either my pants or coat pocket.
  20. For a TARGET/PLINKING load in .44 Magnum, one of my shooting partners uses the following: 240 grain lead SWC bullet Federal Large Pistol #150 primer 7.6 grains Winchester 231 powder mixed cases 925 FPS from a 6" barrel, S&W Model 629 revolver He's also tried 6 grains of Hodgdon's TiteGroup powder, with the same bullet/primers/cases listed above. You might want to look at the www.hodgdon.com site, for load data, on .44 magnum Cowboy Action loads. Some of the loads listed there look promising for mid-range target/plinking.
  21. IF you think that the change in loads will help, it probably will. Having confidence in your ammo is almost (IMHO) as important as the actual performance of the ammo. Will it effect your timing...that depends. There will be a difference in the feel of the pistol as it recoils/tracks between the two loads. But only you will be able to tell if it will be a good or bad change, for you. Run drills with both loads, using a timer, score the targets and compare results. If you have a friend who can video tape you while you are firing the drills. that can be helpful in reviewing your performance. Do that type of testing several times, and you will have a pretty good idea about what will work best for you and your pistol. Good luck.
  22. I have a hard time seeing how adding 7 or 8 shot revolvers to USPSA Revolver division would not end up in another equipment race. If 8 shot revolvers are added, I feel they will become the "must use/winning platform" because of capacity, resulting in fewer reloads (and faster stage times) Just which revolver platform would you choose, 6 or 8 shot for classifiers like "Fluffy's Revenge 1 & 2"? Both of those classifiers are 8 shot CoF's. (Hint: the 6 shooter MUST reload, the 8 shooter doesn't) The Rule Book, Chapter 1: Course Design, 1.2.1.1, 1.2.1.2 and 1.2.1.3 all give an edge to an 8 shot revolver, in terms of stage design. "8 scoring hits from any single location or view" The 8 shot revolver would need fewer reloads to complete any CoF that required more then 6 scored hits. 1.2.1.1 Short Courses maximum of 8 rounds. 6 shot revolver must reload, 8 shot revolver does not. 1.2.1.2 Medium Courses maximum of 16 rounds. 6 shot revolver must reload twice, 8 shot revolver reloads once. 1.2.1.3 Long Courses maximum of 32 rounds. 6 shot revolver must reload five times, 8 shot revolver must reload three times. Scoring 8 shot revolvers as Minor, and 6 shot revolvers as Major does not appear to me to make up for the advantage of faster overall times due to fewer reloads. I was told that one of the secrets of success in this game, is to "just shoot all "A"s as fast as you can" IF you can shoot all "A"s, which will be faster: (facing 4 targets, 8 scored hits) pull trigger 8 times, OR pull trigger 6 times, RELOAD, pull trigger 2 more times? Just my opinion, but I'd leave USPSA Revolver division as it is. And yes, I do shoot USPSA revolver (TY8817, B class)
  23. My very best compliments, Sir.
  24. Thanks! It has been a good day so far. I went out to the range for some of that "P" thing with the wheelgun. (trying to not embarass myself at Sunday's match, Gary) I was even able to hit some of the targets some of the time And SWMBO has plans for dinner, involving a steak and other good things.
