  1. Good Bye my friends! See you on the range. This is my last post. Sincerely Jess Christensen
  2. Interesting pointers by Toolguy. However ! It is like your car and the mechanic...he'll have to see and inspect it. otherwise it's guess work. In order to help yourself with this timing problem, you'll have to get it inspected by a professional. It's usually a simple fix, but sometimes it can become a real problem, if not dealt with that way. Just a thought.
  3. Thanks Doug, All right'ie then. Not even the guy walking with a gas can, with the DC ammo T-shirt on LOL. See you soon you Iowa steel monsters
  4. Hi all, Checked the web today for any updates on the Big Dawgs. Couldn't find any, so I hope it's going to be the same fun as usual. Just to be sure! Is the dates July 22-24? Doug..Mike.. See you there soon. PS. another van trip with 2 X Roger's. Good grief ! What a revolver Mafia.
  5. This trip will bring back some old memories for me ! Last time I was there shooting bowling pins, was exactly 20 yrs. ago. well...weeeelll as Bubber would say, just a side note.
  6. Interesting. Anyway, anything mechanical gets worn over time. Remember an article with Dave Arnold..I think it was, writing about lead bullets in G&A back in the early 80's. He said that if using lead bullets, any revolver accuracy will last forever. However, FMJ's would be a different ball game. I have a 686 that use to shoot 1-2" at 50yds.with 125 XTP using a scope on it. Now, after app.35-40 K rds. it shoots 3-4". Remember when I worked at Wilson's. Barnhart and other topshooters, had their 1911 barrels changed after about 50K rounds. Ok ok, I just may be too scientific about it. What do you guys think...or have experienced ?
  7. Hi all, We have room for 1 more revolver freak in Mr.Reids van. We're leaving NW Arkansas May 30 very early in the morning. Send me a PM if interested. Jess Christensen
  8. Greetings Bill, Count me in. My entry form goes out tomorrow. Comming your way with Bubber, Reid, using Mr.Reids midnight express travel agency. Jess Christensen
  9. Interesting info and topic. I've heard..and read, that if however, you don't use the right bullet dia. for a specific caliber, you'll have some gas blow by in the barrel. This may not always affect accuracy, but may/will shorten barrel life. The theory goes something like this. The bullet doesn't fill out the barrel dia. completely, and skids the rifling most of the way out the bore. Also the fast moving gasses, that by passes the bullet, has a hot sandblasting effect on the lands/grooves. Hard to figure out, whats true facts here...or simple just webside hear say. Does anyone here know something solid about this topic? Mike?
  10. A couple of questions before we go to IRC. Is it allowed to use 2 different revolvers, if both qualify in the same division. And is it Ok to use different ammo in the match (like XTP for Far and Near only). Both with the correct power factor etc. Can't find these answers !
  11. Like to know how many have signed up for the IRC so far ! In the divisions and from what countries ???
  12. Different trades...different tools. You can almost use a S&W revolver for most action games. ICORE, USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, Bowling Pins, Bianchi Cup. I spend a lifetime with revolvers, and will never get tired of them. Do have a lot of pistols, but nothing has more gun-personality than a revolver. Especially, if you have won serious matches with it. Ok the Luger, Baby Browning, 1911, and maybe the PPK has that thing about them too ha ha. Interesting that a design from 1899, still rules 99% of serious revolver action sports...well not counting the SAA design, which is a completely different story. Life would simply not be the same without a 627,625,686,617,642,29,25, and if I could have only one carry gun, it would be Scandium/titanium 45 ACP w/3" barrel and nite-sites...can't remember if that is the 325 ?
  13. Break down and get yourself a 627 8-shot. Life is not the same without one. Yeah ! Steel challenge here we come etc.
  14. Still,I wonder if someone from the IRC, can tell how many have signed up so far ? Open, limited, Classic, other countries. Just curious to know. See you guys real soon.
  15. Anyway ! Thats the problem...no trunk in Reids van. So whats the word ! How many have signed up so far ? Are they comming from all over the world. Ok Bianchi first, then ICORE. This time I'm going to practice hmm. ha ha.
  16. Just watch the pro's. Ask questions. Buy a quality firearm. And practice...and practice....and thats it.
  17. Yep ! Getting ready here too. Just finsihed testing my new 627 PC. Always interesting to see how accurate new S&W's are at 50 yds., before ICORE pratice starts with iron sights. Well, it's an even split between Bayou 135 RN, 125 FP plated Bulletworks, and of course 125 JFP XTP's. They all print between 2-4", which should be fine for Far and Near standards. OK, Bianchi first with my 686, and we'll get serious with ICORE right after....cant' wait to get there. Can't decide which challenge will be the toughest. Driving with Bubber and Mr. reid or the championship....only time will tell. Do you still hate me ( a little bit ) showing up at the AR Sectionals without my team shirt Bubber......no, don't answer that.
  18. I put my weak hand thumb on the cylinders recoil shield. Seems to work OK for me so far.
  19. Just shot my first match with TK's newest type of SS competition clips for 625. Works great, but make sure, that you'll use extremely clean burning powder. Otherwise, they may stick some, going in/out if unburned powder gets between the chamber wall/casing.
  20. Glad to see you in the show Cliff. Show them why "smokepoles" demands respect. Almost got into Topshot too. Now applying for the 4th. season. Jess Christensen
  21. Hi all, Nothing brings man and gun any closer, than being in the "zone" than steel challenge. Shooting a roundabout at 2 to 2,5 sec. is like becomming part of your S&W ha ha. Speaking of the mid-west. Don't forget about the Big Dawgs Steel Shoot in SE Iowa. It's not SC, but still the ultimate steel shooting experience...and well the most rounds fired at any match in one day....or close to it! Just google the name. Hope you'll make it. Oh'e this match is centerfire only by the way. another 617 lover.
  22. In my opinien, buying a PC vs. S&W has no advantage to it. The gun needs a full custom job anyway for serious competition. You're better off using the money saved, for the custom upgrade on the S&W. Yes, I know a lot of folks hate MIM parts. They just don't have the same feel/sound to them like "real" parts. However, todays quality MIM parts, has 99% of the same density as regular machined parts. So in reality, it's more or less an echo from the past. oh'e no...did I say that...ha ha
  23. Hi guys, Been shooting for a while, and still not sure about why this Lewis system is still used. One time, I shot very poorly and won B-class being master. I felt the only right thing to do, was giving my price to the guy who was otherwise high B. Another thing ! At the local match level, one's classification doesn't really mean anything, and seems unfair to the newer shooters....Or am I complety wrong here.
  24. The buttom line about SA vs.DA, is that if you don't learn how to use DA effectively on a revolver, you may just as well shoot another gun/division. Otherwise you'll never have any luck winning anything serious within action type shooting sports.
  25. Been a while, 99 I think since I shot the IRC. Can't remember all the different string of "Far & Near". Checked the ICORE webside, but couldn't find any info about it. Does anyone remember them ? Or where exactly can I read about this stage ? Thanks Jess Christensen
