  1. Sorry I couldn't get my point through. I rest my case. Jess Christensen
  2. Ok, allow me to rephrase some, so we're on the same page here. Im' talking about a gun that works. 99 % of users are content with their gun purchases, and then there's us, who knows how it's supposed to be. Even PC's out of the box need's about $ 2-400 more work in oder to work + sight's and grips. Imagine if you could have all this including the gun for about $600 or so. OK it's humans chained to a steel table in a sweat shop, but that wouldn't differ much from Wal-Mart products. Just saying, Jess Christensen
  3. Just imagine for a second, if Armscor came out with a quality S&W and Ruger copy. Knowing that perhaps only 95% of gunowners know real quality from all the rest, would simply knock US production back to the stone age. Just think about it ! Why would Mr. & Mrs. Johnson pay $ 800 for a S&W, when they could get that same model for $ 400. Just got back from my neighbors, which had gotten a Commander from ATI for $ 400. It basically had the same quality like S&A's and Colts used to have in the mid 80's. And if they can make money on that for such a low price, then just imagine what could happen to the revolver market. The ones who don't know leave them as is, and us who knows...modify or customize them anyways before they see any serious use anyhow. Just a "scary" thought. Jess Christensen
  4. Hi GR 7070, Yes, that came out wrong ha ha. What I ment to say was, that I understand the reason for the rule change, however the new rule could/should have been like the ICORE rule for fellow shooters who don't reload. Not complaining ! It's just a sport we enjoy.
  5. I understand the reason behind that decision, now that a lot of box store ammo is on the weaker side. However most reload their ammo, and when the match is over, the 4" S&W for carry...if used at all, is loaded up with the "real stuff". Just another rule for no reason. They could also use the ICORE rule on ammo instead, where 158 gr. generic ammo is exempt from the 120 PF requirements, so newer shooters that don't reload...yet, can get away with factory ammo. When I started the IDPA game, the rule book had about 10 pages, and look now. Every sport will be gamed to death no matter what folks say and do. It never stops. IDPA # A00003
  6. Was just wondering how the US IPSC teams are going to bring ammo for 30 + stages in Greece, with the weight limit on ammo in mind ? Another question. First what is the correct US custom form for international travel with firearms ? also, whats the exact procedure, when leaving the US from a local airport with no customs service, to verify serialnumbers, model, make etc. Once in transit to the next international airport, one has no acces to the guns before the final stop overseas. Jess
  7. They only crack if chamfered wrong. A haircrack starts migrating from imperferfections in rounded off edges with poor polishing jobs too. Only benefit using TI cylinders, would be slightly better action job and easier lock up on the cylinder bolt ( less mass in movement), and a lighter gun out of the holster for stuff like Steel Challenge. However, as everything in life, there's a trade-off. More recoil and inconsistency with fast reloads. And somehow, they don't feel like enough gun in the hand at times. Just my opinien...and you know how that goes ha ha. Jess
  8. OK, so how do I get a hold on the Apex information. Jess
  9. Must be a brand new item. Couldn't find it on their webside. Was looking to buy the blade only, and put it on my existing rear sight, which has no blade on it right now. Didn't like the Wiegand being out of aluminum and serrated. Does anyone know,if this blade goes right onto the existing S&W sight base ? Also if they have them without serrations (too much stuff to look at), and with different notch sizes ? Jess
  10. Hi Mitch, Is there serrations on your rear sight ? And if so, do you know if they are offered without ? Jess
  11. Looks great. I was wondering if they offer different models or custom orders. Like wider and squared notch and no serrations etc. Jess
  12. Yes, I have both models. Got the 940 because I won it in a match. My absolute favorite among J-frames is the 642. The 940 is heavier, and doesn't really make sense to carry when you can go with the lighter models. Ok, if one had free 9mm to practice with...hmm from somewhere, that would be another deal ha ha. Jess Christensen
  13. Good choice. I have had mine for over 20 Yrs. and it has served me well. Jess
  14. Well, cant remember this type of rifling. Some say there are som with chemical etched rifling...yes; and some say no way etc. But back to the question though. Does anyone else have this problem too. Jess Christensen
  15. Toolguy, No they come that way with this type of rifling. Looks more like polygonal than cut lands and grooves. Just never seen any S&W lead up so fast and so bad. Jess Christensen
  16. Most quality bullets, both lead, plated and FMJ shoots pretty accurate in all my K and L frames. However when it comes to my 625's, which have different types of rifling, the ones with non sharp lands don't seem to like lead bullets very much. They lead up the bore a way too fast, and accuracy goes bad real fast. This rifling looks almost a little like polygonal type and has rounded edges on the lands. Seems to me, that the bullets don't get the right grip in the rifling, and skits through most of the bore. Does anyone have this same experience with 625's. Jess Christensen
  17. when using 24 gr. of Lil-Gun, it must be a very compressed load. Doesn't the 240 gr. XTP migrate back out some after seating ? I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk too, but not as accurate as your. Someone told me, that Ruger revolver is not build with the same consistency and accuracy as S&W's, and only one out of 3 is considered a real tack driver. Does that statement have any bearing to it at all...anybody knows! By the way, who has Zero 125 JHP's in stock. Seems to be sold out everywhere. Jess Christensen
  18. Oh'e boy! It's going to be a very loooong drive to the IRC from AR to CA. One guy likes Ruger, another Dan Wesson....now we just need a Colt fan too. Good grief ? what has this world come to...anyone into Charter Arms now that we're at it ! Jess Christensen
  19. Look ! It's very simple. If you want to win, practice and use only the best equipment available. Other than that, everything else will work fine too. Jess Christensen
  20. Interesting, Also I was wondering if moly spray will help anything at handgun velocities. Has anyone tried that ? Or has it been proven in test labs? About Federal SP. I can't see any difference in either accuracy or FPS, when using faster burning pistol powder in 38 spl. Jess
  21. Hi again, When it comes to 125 gr. JHP's, it's kind of strange that very few use Sierra's Sportsmaster bullets. They should be top notch grade too ! Does anyone treat their bullets with molly coating ? and whats the difference in accuracy/velocity ? Another thing I heard about accuracy in S&W revolvers, is that if it starts out with app. 1 to 1,5" groups at 50 yds. It'll open up to about 2-3" after 40 to 60.000 rds. however, it's going to be like this for...well almost ever. Lead bullets will never wear out it's accuracy at all...or it's in the 100's of thousands etc. or so I was told by a PPC shooter in the past. Does anyone have experience with this ? Jess. PS. see you soon Troy.
  22. Very interesting Toolguy. What was fps. on your loads ? power factor ? just in case you remember or has it written down still. What was the difference in inches at 100 yds, when sighted in at 200 with that 300 gr. HDY XTP load? In your opinien, is the the Zero 125 JHP just as accurate as 125 XTP ?
  23. Hi all, I was wondering if any of you guys, has ever truely tested your various models for their potential accuracy? Being into Bianchi Cup style shooting myself, I've tested many S&W revolvers, especially L-frames with either 4X or 3-7 X pistol scopes at 50 yds. This has almost been an obsession of mine the past 25 yrs. One of my many pet loads consisted of a HDY 125 XTPFP and 4,9 gr. of Titegroup. One of my 686's would group between 3/4" to 1,5" at 50 yds, when it was new 50-60.000 rds. ago. Tested my mod.29 at 100 yds. with NEI 240 SWC and 11,5 gr. of Vectan AO using a Burris 4X scope. This gun would routinely produce 3-5" groups. Eventually the forcing cone got burned up, and during the re-cut process at the S&W factory they cracked the frame when removing the barrel. It's still accurate, but not as before. Got a 625 that'll make 3" groups at 50 yds. with 230 XTP's and 4,5 gr. of Titegroup too. How about your S&W's ! have you ever tested their true accuracy potential. And have they lost any accuracy from being used over the years. Just being interested in your experience here. Jess Christensen
  24. I'll shoot stock revolver and pistol again. I'm going to compete in the shoot-off with my 627 also, like I have done since my first BD match in 2006. It was a close call last year, but open revo was 3-4 sec. behind me. A lot can happen out of 15 stages shot 4 times each for a total count of 60 strings. See you...bring more revo guys.
  25. She may need an action job too ha ha.
