  1. Just tried TK's new JM style moonclip today at the Old Fort Shootout IPSC match today. And yes...they really work better and faster than GI standard clips. The clips are made out of SS, and holds the cartridges tight with minimum wiggle in the pockets, but they can rotate like usual. I use WW match brass, and I am able to seat them without pliers. Just thought you wanted to know about this. Jess
  2. Hi all, I understand the aspect of saving by using 9mm components, but how do you get any serious accuracy out of this gun ? 9mm being conical shaped vs. straight walled 38S/38spl. etc. New cylinder? also 9's are .355 and supers .355,5 ??? just wondering
  3. Hi Guys, Never used Solo 1000 yet ! How does it compare to Vihtavouri N-310 or 320. 38 Spl. 45 ACP, 9mm/P etc. And how well does it meter in the powder measure etc. Looking for a Vit. substitute I guess, and right now it is Titegroup, which work fine, but my search for the perfect powder has no ending to it ha ha.
  4. Interesting reading. Guess my time has come too. Going to have my presciption insert lenses made this week for my shooting glasses. As I understand, the way to go here, is to have the dominant eye to get a sharp focus on the front sight, and the weak eye on the target. So I guess glasses set up like this, is pretty much only for shooting right. Will I get dizzy wearing them between stages? Can they be used for driving or everyday situations, or will this condition my eyes over time. Please write about your experience with glasses made this way. Just hate to make the wrong desicion, being a first time user of presciption glasses. And I shoot most type of action type revolver shooting. Right from SC to Bianchi. Thanks guys. Jess Christensen
  5. I think it actually ruins the experience of owning a good double action revolver, when it's shot single action style. Remember way back in Europe, when I started shooting DA, I was rediculed until I won a lot of shooting competitions in long range bullseye. Never understood why so many DA shooters, go with too light actions. Just one misfire, can be one too many at any serious competition.
  6. On the other hand. Let the facts speak for themselfes. The best revolver shooters in the world pretty much use JM grips. They do that for a reason. Bill Jordan did have hands the size of frying pans, and for that reason, he needed/wanted the grips to cover the backstrap, in order to make his trigger finger index better on the trigger. For normal hand sizes, this "spacer" will only cause more muzzle rise by changing the pivot point, in relation to how close the web area is to the trigger.
  7. Very interesting post/picture of 45 Colt history. In fact I just sold an unopen 12 pack of Frankford Arsenal from 1873 for $800 on an auction. Another thing about this thread topic, is that I just don't get the whole SASS idea! They dress up and all, in order to everything more realistic. Yet they don't shoot the same type of realistic power floor from the same time period. How in the world, can anyone being into guns and gear from this time period, think a power factor of 100 is truely western style. Well, that may just be me, but I wan't to feel that SAA rock in my hand, when I go cowboy style.
  8. Nice debate ! Every gun model has it's place in competiton somewhere. Vlad, please keep it civilized here! Don't even try to redicule DA revo's here. Otherwise I'll consider to attend area 5 too. Then we'll make our own little sidestage, where we'll shoot 6 rounds/10 yds at a IPSC target...run to the next about 5 yds. away, and shoot another 6 rds. Highest score win $1.ooo ok..... No seroius, lets not start pointing fingers here! There's enough people outside our belief in freedom and the right to choose, that'll take of that. Unfortunately. All shooting sports....are well shooting sports, and should be respected by anyone. With full respect, Jess
  9. Just love SAA and have a bunch of them. Probably the fastest gun in existence in the right hands, when talking about RPM, even though the first 3 rounds out of the 6, wouldn't even register on a time (sub .10). Now look! If you have ever been at a SASS match, you would understand why this has no place in USPSA.....or I could be totally wrong, and owe many good folks an excuse for my blunt statement here. Just saying OK.
  10. Thanks, I give it another try. And if that doesn't work, I'll loose it in a poker game on purpose.
  11. Thats what I thought! Tried rubbing alcohol (read moonshine)to get the stuff cleaned out of the mould, but guess it has to be polished out instead. Smoke residue from a god old match, seems to work the best. So much for trying the fancy stuff.
  12. Question about bullet casting. Does any of you use the Drop Out bullet mould spray from Midway? I tried it on aluminum moulds, and just can't it to work at all. Now it has ruined one of my moulds. Whats going on here...anyone knows?
  13. Hi M109R, So the buttom line would be, that China pretty much control the quality of lead bullets in America hmm. You won't be soooo'e mouthy this saturday, when my 8-shot smokepole sends your plastic device back to the stoneage.....again !!! See you soon buddy. 50GI-Jess
  14. Also, speaking of that Lee 230 gr.RN obviously made for 45ACP, seems to have a design flaw. This in regard to the intended crimp area of the bullet, which when used right, will make the COAL too long for 1911 design. Mine came out to app.1.270 +, which is a little to long for mags and chamber specs. One would almost have to freebore some more, in the order for the round to chamber and keep preassure where it belongs. Well, just a thought.
  15. Hi Again, Speaking about washing brass! I recently started buying Cabela's Tumble Bright ceramic stones/ and the green mixer liquid. The stones last forever, but Cabela's won't sell the green tumble bright on the side! Does any of you use this stuff too, and what other liquids can be used as a replacement??? Also what other methods really work on brass cleaning on a bigger scale, since I do it for living, and deal with reloading in very high numbers. Just curious to learn more about this.
  16. Hi Guys, Due to the high prices on bullets, I got into casting again. I had the same problems with my 625 and Lee 230 gr. tumble lube bullets. They do come out to .452-.453 so thats OK. However they keyholed at even 10 yds. whether sized or tumble lubed with Lee Alox. So i hardened them in water, and it all got better. However, even now that the bullets are harder, they still lead up the barrel. Thats the only thing I don't like about the 625 and the etched rifling. It just won't cut into the bullets like sharp lands do. Question! Does any of you thin out the Lee Alox with mineral spirits ? Or other stuff! And if so, does it work OK. Jess
  17. Most likely either crushed primer (when you seated it) or a dead contaminated priming mix. So it shouldn't really matter what the casing look like, if the cartridge never went off at all. Never seen it before, just heard about it. Just a wild guess nothing more.
  18. 40 yds away from my house. Steel challenge/IPSC pistol range and 100 yds. rifle.
  19. Again! Most out of the "box" revolvers, will outshoot most pistols. Sure you can customize most quality pistols to shoot very accurate too. When my 686 was new, it could shoot 1" groups at 50 yds. with HDY XTP's, when using a handgun scope from prone position. Now after more than 50 K rounds through it, it has open up to 3" at 50, but seems to stay there for good. Yes, I have "custom" 1911's that can print around 4-5" at 50, but this is from prone using the existing iron sights. Makes me wonder how they would perform from a Ransom rest too. Jess
  20. Why doesn't SASS have any power factor requirements ? Didn't the original 45 Colt in BP have over at least 185. Was just wondering. Jess Christensen
  21. Hi fellow shooters and friends, Here's something thats been on my mind for some years ! In my opinion Bianchi Cup needs a complete facelift. Think about it ! NRA can barely scrape 150-200 shooters togther for this event, thats supposed to be a world class format competition. I've been in the whole action pistol game for over 25 yrs. and this will be my 11th Cup. However, as much I love the Cup, the NRA needs to get out of the 50-60's mode when it comes to the dynamics of action shooting. I've never been at one single Cup without hearing complaints from both experienced and professionel competitors. Getting the guns approved always causes "this/that" problem, instead of simplifying the rules. How many times does one hear this conversation at a IPSC, Steel Challenge match etc.! Most RO's are very pro, but some almost has no idea about whats really going on. I love the practice range (actually camping there) and the well organized social events, but the whole match is too long for "normal" working folks, which by itself outrule another 100 or so from competing. Don't forget that probably 30% or more are from out of country, and has a lot of travel to do at both ends. The NRA should consider either upgrading the existing range or move it to a top notch facility somerwhere in the heartland. The mover. should not dictate the whole flow of a match of this reputation and international format. Lastly, it's very disrespectful to all sponsors, not displaying/saying how much they have sponsored to each winning competitor, when they walk to the stage on banquet night. This throughout all div. stagewins down the line. Im a NRA life member and support them. However. it's time to get rid of "there's them and us", which I sometimes detect a little bit of at the Cup. Well, just my opinion. Jess Christensen
  22. Oh'e did I forget to mention, that most out of the box revos will beat production pistols in accuracy, due to the fact that they have a fixed barrel in the frame. Back in 09 I came in 2nd. at Bianchi in production div. Not because I was the best shooter among these top shots, but because my equipment didn't handicap me. Going to use that same 686 again this year. Jess Christensen
  23. Well...to me it's simply just more "gun"...and more fun. Started with a revolver, shot everything with a trigger on it in my life, and will never get tired of shooting revolvers. Jess Christensen
  24. Lost a girlfriend one time over my Datsun 120A
  25. Nothing strange at all ! Just some mixed WW Mil brass from different production years. Some +P ( + pressure) usually self defense type loads. S&B ( Sellior & Bellot) and Starline it seems like. This is just the beginning, thers 100's of different head stamps.
