  1. our section actually implemented a $5 price break if you hold r.o. certification and $10 price break if you are a working r.o. at the match. Is it helping I don't know...jury is still out.
  2. I'm with you I hate it.......being L.E. I have to see it and deal with the people they leave behind wondering why. It appears from my point of view to be very selfish. I recently saved a guy's life who was trying to kill himself with plastic cables ties cinched around his neck and he wasn't breathing. Although he wasn't appreciative at the time his family including two small children were. With so mental health counseling..................at last check he is doing well.
  3. I liked it alot in the theater, but I went in with low expectations.
  4. I'm going to load up some TB this week and will try loading some long as well for the guys using SV mags. I'll post my results.
  5. Surprised to hear that you have to use that much powder loading that short. Like I mentioned earlier with Sihoulette I am at 7.65 loaded at 1.200 OAL with no signs of pressure at all. But it is very snappy to say the least and I don't think it works the comp that well in my shorty JL upper. Like new guy I am new to open as well. Just made master in Limited but these open guns are finnicky. Thanks for all the help...hoping to have a good load worked out soon. Anybody tried using TB and loading long like at 1.190 or 1.200? Little Bill if you are shooting a JL gun what charge are you using?
  6. I have not had to compress the powder with Sihlouette, but I have been seating at 1.200. I guess I'll give True Blue a whirl. I'm shooting a Hardy upper as many of you are it sounds. Why do you guys load so short?
  7. Have any of you guys tried Ramshot Silhouette vs True Blue? I'm using 7.65gr with MG 124 JHP @ 1.190 with WSR primers in my 9mm Shorty with 4 port comp and 2 snort holes but it is a bit violent @ 168PF. I'm thinking of trying True Blue. Be interested in hearing from someone who has tried both. Thanks, Nick
  8. I found that it my my 6" 40 cal. exceptionally hot to the point that the bluing would often change color after shooting a stage. So I switched to Ramshot Competition.
  9. I use 1.155 and they work flawlessly in my 6" STI
  10. any recommendations on what video capturing software to use to capture video? I have been using Windows Movie Maker and it does a good job and makes high quality video but it only lets you do .wmv files. Looking for something that will let you save to mpg, avi etc. Nick
  11. Shot these today: 9mm Shorty Open WSR Primers Montana Gold 124gr CMJ OAL 1.200 Ramshot Silhoutte 7.7gr 1372, 1373, 1366, 1369, 1364, 1368, 1382, 1374, 1372 ES=18 PF=168.7 Functions great, very accurate, works the comp nicely
  12. Just shot these out of my shorty open nine: WSR Primers Montana Gold 124 CMJ 7.7gr Ramshot Silhouette OAL 1.200 1372 1373 1366 1369 1364 1368 1382 1374 1372 ES= 18 PF=168.7 No signs of pressure, very accurate, works the comp nicely
  13. Based on my experience as an LE sniper, I would have to recommend the .308 caliber for starters. It is light recoil if your rifle is setup. I know you don't want a heavy rifle, but heavy rifles recoil less. Look at a Rem 700 PSS or the Rem 700 LTR (it is lighter and shorter). Most Rems shoot 1/2 -3/4 MOA with match ammo out of the box. If you get the Rem I would recommend putting a 3 position safety on the bolt. Winchester Mod 70 Coyote in .308 is also a nice gun and shoots sub MOA out of the box. Winchester does not have the box magazine however. We had extraordinary problems with the Rem box mags on the dept. rifles not feeding well and I would consider an after market magazine since the rem mags didn't work well at all. My $.02 worth. Nick
  14. I shot a Glock 35 in limited for 2 years. You can be very competitive with them if you set them up right. Sounds like you are on the right track weight wise. Get the light recoil spring from Kartozian...I can't remember what weight it is and the full length tungsten guide rod. I used Montana Gold 200gr bullets and it seemed to shoot much flatter than with 180's. My $.02 worth. Nick
  15. problem is the 300 yd targets have been 8" steel not paper targets at the matches I have shot
  16. I'm for keeping all of them, but course designers have to keep in mind that some of us still do use iron sights and make the stages reasonable.
  17. I used V320 with Montana Gold 180 for a long time and switched to Competition about 8 months ago and I like it much better. It actually takes about .3gr less powder, there seems to be less recoil and smoke. Plus it is $25-30 cheaper for a 4 lb keg. Most of our local limited shooters have switched to it and most are using Ramshot Sihlouette or True Blue for Open.
  18. I have a 9 shorty and it won't run well at all on STI mags with or without spacers, at any OAL, but runs fine on SV mags and Grams springs and followers. I am running 1.200 OAL.
  19. one of the problems I have seen, recently at Area 1 3 gun and from what I've heard this also happened at the Nationals is stages for rifle that are so hard (especially for standard) if you shoot the stage and actually attempt to hit all of the targets that the hit factors are so low that a gamer can just launch rounds down range, not even try to hit the 300 yd targets, do the stage in half time and have a higher hit factor. There needs to be a better balance between difficulty and speed so stages can't be gamed so easily with the rifle. IMHO.
  20. I really like the S&B slugs but they are indeed a hair long and I have difficulty getting a full load in my 11-87
  21. Good Lord that's big!!!!!!
