  1. I have had several compact style pistols in .45 and .40 and some are ammo sensitive. Try a different/lower weight bullet or different style nose. Also with every gun especially compacts I have had to polish the feed ramp. It is a very short and tight area and it needs to be super slick. I also had one pistol with a slight ding in the entrance to the chamber right above the feed ramp that came form the factory. Cleaned it up and the gun worked flawless. Take the barrel out and spend some time polishing the ramp and try it again, if not then go to a lighter bullet weight. My Kimber .45 compact carry would never shoot 230gr ammo HP reliably but would shoot any kind of 180 gr that I put through it.
  2. I swapped out a short adjustable stock for a longer adjustale stock with a longer buffer tube. About 1" longer. Do I need to change out the shorter spring for a longer one? I haven't had a chance to shoot it, yet.
  3. Normally Ammo to Go has it in stock and in bulk. I usually buy 1K rounds at a time. I checked their website and it is out of stock right now, but here are a couple of online vendors that have it. It is the best, hits steel hard. All brass cases. I shoot several 3-g matches with 6-8" steel plates out to 25 -30 yards and have no problems. Sometimes our local Walmart has it. Don't get confused with the German RWS 9mm 124gr. ammo. I have shot alot of this from Walmart and it is also very good. The only problem I have with this ammo is it has a steel core and our Match directors don't like us to shoot it on steel due to the steel core. Another very good 9mm 124gr ammo is the Speer Lawman. It is a little more expensive, but is great. I have tried CCI Blazer in the aluminum case and don't like it.Magtech is also OK. Keep checking Ammo to Go. http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/ammo-for-handguns/9mm-luger/p/9mm-geco-dag-124gr-fmj-swiss-ruag-mfg-50rd-box/cPath/31/products_id/4083?SID http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=A2314843 http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index.php?cPath=23_61_118&sort=2a&filter_id=46
  4. Atlanta Arms 147gr works and shoots very well. Very accurate. I usually shoot the Swiss 124gr ammo from Dynamint Nobel (Geco). I have probably shot 3K thru my Match and my Limited Pro with absolutely no failures of any kind. Also very accurate. It is not real expensive, somewhere between $10-$12 a box.
  5. I just shot my new MTAC for the first time in a 3-gun comp. I gave my Tac 30 to my son for his new rifle so I am familiar with the reticle. I have shot at least a thousand rounds thru the Tac 30. DPMS 3g-1, 18", 1-8 barrel. It was a bright sunny day with a lot of wind. I never turned on the illumionated reticle. Didn't need it. Only use it on overcast days. I shoot 75gr Privi Partisan shells at long distance, 100 plus, and 55gr PMC for everything else. I zeroed it at about 3" high at 100yds with the PP loads. At 25yds I am 3" low, and at 50yds 1" low. The rifle part of the match was all long range from 100 to 480 yds and everything in between. The distances were posted so you knew what you were shooting. From 100 out to 250 I kept the crosshair on the target and hit everything. At 300 used the first dot and was right on. 400 I used the second dot and again was right on. At the longest 480yds I used the 500 yard dot and kept it on the bottom of the target. At this point there was a 25 mph left to right wind and I was holding about 3 feet off and was all around the 18" steel swinger target but ran out of time before hitting it. The glass is exceptionall clear and in my opinion better than the Tac30. We put the Tac 30 on my son's new rifle, an Olympic arms flat top with standard light 16" barrel and shooting 55gr Pmc he hit out to 300yds with no problem. The wind caused a lot of headaches after that. All in all I am sold on these Burris scopes.
  6. Fred, thanks again for a great match. That was my son's first ever 3-gun and he had a blast. You made him feel right at home and gave him (and me) some good advice. He is already talking about the next one. That 20 plus mph crosswind at the last stage really had me hurting on the 480 yd target. Only feedback is that my son and I really had a hard time seeing some of those closer targets on the ridge shooting thru the barrels and the ones on the left when we were shooting thru the car window. Maybe paint them again during the match. If I am there I would be happy to go down and throw some paint on them. They tended to blend in with the grass. I still hate that spinner. That is my goal to get it around. gerritm

  8. All checks are being returned as of this writing Shredding is fine with me , also. Save the stamp.
  9. I had, and the operative word is "had" one of these. It worked for about a month. It would not hold your settings and zero when you changed the magnification. I couldn't understand why it shot perfect at 100 yards and then would be all over the place at other distances or magnifications. Spent about 2 hours and many shells trying to figure it out at the range. I thought it was something I was doing wrong. Shoot it and zero it at 100 yards @ 4X and it was right on, go to other powers at the same distance and the zero moved. Come back to 4X and it was zeroed. It was very frustrating because the scope actually was a great idea and very clear. The few times it worked when I first got it was right on especially at 300-500 yards. Crank it up to 8X or 12X and you could see the targets very well. When I communicated the problem with their CS they had me send the unit back and immediately gave me the option of a complete refund or a new scope. I took the refund.
  10. Thanks, missed that. Should we send the app. and check with the old name in to guarantee a spot or wait until the new app comes out with the correct names?
  11. I had a newer model Mini 14 target model with the heavy barrel and the harmonic dampner. The newer Mini's have a much better barrel. It was a MOA shooter at 100 yards and it shot well at 200 yards. I never shot it past 200 yards so I can't tell you much about that accuracy. One of the nice features is how easy it is to change out the stock. It had the heavy black laminate stock with a thumbhole for the range and I picked up a Hogue overmolded stock for the field. Could change it out in about 5 minutes. It shot any ammo you could put thru it.They said only to shoot .223 not 5.56 ammo thru this model, but the tactical and ranch will shoot both. I had a fairly cheap, but higher power scope on it. It was one of my favorite rifles to shoot. I had many compliments on the looks and accuracy at the range, always caught everyone's attention. I know lots of guys who have the new models with the better barrels and are very happy with the accuracy. Can't compare the new ones with the older models with the thin lightweight barrels. When I got into 3-gun it got sacrificed to buy my DPMS 3G, but I would definetly buy another new model. http://www.ruger.com/products/mini14TargetRifle/models.html
  12. You guys don't know what you are missing. Even as hot as it was, it was still a blast. Fred and Kelton did a great job. This is a different kind of challenge than running and hosing down paper targets. Makes you think and really know your rifle and distances. First time I got them all right. Fred, thanks again for the help. I learn something new every time I come out. Even the old and slow can compete if you know your rifle. I still need alot of work on shotgun loading. See you next month.
  13. I had those grips on my open Gold gun. They are pretty slippery in hot weather. I have the anodized checked ones on my Limited and they work much better in hot weather.
  14. I changed out the front sight on my Limited Pro to a FO. It is held on by a small screw and dovetailed in from the front. It was very easy to changed. The Match is the same. I have since had a set of Trijicon Night sights installed on my Limited Pro and really like them. I have done nothing to either pistol. I found the triggers smooth and pull around 4#. I shoot reloads and factory 9mm 124gr loads. I know a lot of guys like to mess with their guns, but I believe that as long as they function, why screw up a good thing. I have at least 5K rounds thru my Pro with no problems other than I took apart the ejector and spring to clean off the carbon that had built up and would occasionly not eject a shell. I shoot almost every weekend and other than a little holster wear the finish is perfect.
  15. I have both the Match in 9mm which I use for IDPA and USPSA and the Limited Pro for 3-gun. I love them both. Same feeling as all about accuracy and dependability. I put a mag well on the Limited Pro for faster reloads. Bolts and slides on. I can't really tell the difference between the 2 as far as shooting and triggers. The Match is SA and the Limited Pro is DA. I have switched the slides between the 2 and there is no difference. The nice thing is if you don't really need a mag well, although you can have one installed on the Match, the price of the Match is about 1/2. You are limited in grip selection for the match. Both great guns. I have many rounds thru them. I use Blade Tech holsters for both.
  16. Henning got right back to me with what to do. I am going to keep the H-141 base and run a Wolf spring in it and limit my rounds to 20.
  17. I have an original chrome 9mm mag that came with my Limited Pro. It has always worked with no problems. I added a Henning H-141 mag base to it to increase the capacity. I can get 20 rounds in it with no problem and it feeds perfect. If I try to get 21 or more the follower jams under the bottom lip of the mag and the rounds will not feed. I have added one of these bases to a new Mec Gar 9mm mag and it does the same thing. I saw on Hennings website that there is a spring and follower that you can install to bring the capacity to 23. Anyone know which one it is. I don't want to buy the combo kits with the base, only the spring and follower. Will this also work on the new Mec Gar mags? I did send an e-mail to henning, but I am impatient and would like to go ahead and place the order.
  18. I bought my Winchester SX3 barrel from their parts department direct. I believe the SX2 and a couple of Browning barrels will fit the FNSLP.
  19. We shot one of our WHIDPA matches there a couple of months ago. The steel rifle targets were set up from 25 yards out to 500. No hoser stages for the rifle. The combination of guns and movement on each stage made it challenging especially the jungle run. I am not sure of exactly how the stages will be set up. This is where the Larue match was shot a couple of years ago. You will enjoy it. It is going to be different than your typical 3-gun. It was probably the most fun and challenging match I have been to in a while. You will need to know your zero. I know there will be 3 guns used on several stages. Speed will be good, but accuracy will keep a level playing field. Shotgun and pistol shots will be just as challenging.
  20. I believe it will be reactive/steel targets only with hits or misses and FTN or FTE and time. Should be a great format. No paper. CCC is a great range with all natural settings for the stages. There will be a lot of movement and use all 3-guns on many of the stages. The jungle run will be challenging.
  21. Happens once in awhile on my SX3. Pretty much corrected it by having the loading gate welded. The shell feeds more even and easier to push.
  22. I put a Hogue rubber finger grip on my 9mm match and it bound the mags up in several spots. Ended up returning the grip as it would have been too hard and would have thinned out the grips too much to sand them down. I had e-mailed Hogue to see what grip would work and they reccommened this one. When I called to return it the CS person said that it would only fit regular Witness pistols. I really iked the grip too. Glad you got it resolved.
  23. I will check tonight. I know I have some rear spacer, front spacer, and a few that I removed the spacer all together. I got all of them to feed reliably at one point. Some have Henning springs and followers.
