  1. Damn proud you shared that Bigpops! Damn proud we have the forum to share it on! Damn proud we have the country to share it in! Damn proud of our people who fight for our right to keep sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. My guns are a part of me. If I use a part of me for anything I clean it. 'Nuff said.
  3. If you paint in Dillon blue how will you be able to find your reloader?
  4. I'm sure we all know the importance of wearing safety glasses at all times when reloading. Your regular glasses are not in that category! Even if the lenses were made with polycarbonate safety material. I can see a pair of safety glasses on this guy's reloading shelf, but he's wearing his go to sunday meeting specs. Big PLEASE here people. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!
  5. I looked at those posts on the search(good idea by the way). It's looking like my problems are powder related. I'm going to try several other powders along with the unique and 700x. I also just bought a chronograph. It should be interesting to see how much speed variation is connected to the powder throw variations. Could be I'm just OCDing for very little reason. I've noticed that the more I reload, the more I get into the tinniest details. I'll post any meanigfull results. Thanks again.
  6. That works on average, but I'm not changing settings in between throws, only weighing them. If it keeps up this way I'll be shooting one rd at 3.2 gr and one at 3.6. The heavier weight is more stable, or seems to be. I'm still well below max but can actually feel a difference when shooting some shots vs others from the same batch. I actually use your technique. Read it when I first started reloading. Started checking more closely when I got experienced enough to feel the difference in my loads.
  7. Simple. Easy. Safe. Methodical. Always the best. Good advice.
  8. I use both a digital ( the one BE sells) and a beam. All station full. To check, I was looking at every other rd. I use 3.4gr 700x with a 158 XTP jhp bullet on the 38 spl, 4 gr 700X with a 230 FMJ for 45acp, and 10gr unique with a 240 gr xtp jhp with the 44 mag. I get 3.2-3.6gr on the 38, 3.8-4.2 on the 45, but only9.9-10.1 on the 44 mag. Usually I'm pretty dead on at 10 gr. I only use the large bar on the 44 mag. Do you think if I try a powder requiring a larger throw it might settle down? I don't usually load very hot stuff, so I don't normally us a lot of powder. Do you load heavier and get a more consistent throw? Thanks LeRoy,and thanks for your service.
  9. I load 38spl,44 mag and 45acp on the dillon 550B. I've noticed more variation on throw weights in the 4gr throws vs the 10-12 gr throws. I use similar powder, 700X and unique. The other difference is that I use the large powder bar for the 10-12 and the small bar for the 4 gr throws. Is it just the low weight of powder or do the powder bars make a difference? The unique on the 44 is the most consistent. I appreciate your thoughts on this.
  10. I know it must be hard for some ladies to understand why we do such things but just let her know that it's a "guy thing"... She knows it's a guy thing. That's what she finds so funny. Also please stay away from using the words hard and thing in the same sentence. The pun possibilities in this thread are unbelievable! Especially Mr. Amish bragging he had to reduce the picture of his gun to make it fit! Mucho LOL!!!
  11. You guys have no idea how funny my wife thinks this is. Everyone pulling out their pistols and taking pictures of them. LOL!!!
  12. +1 to all the "more consistent charges" posts. be Hey BE, Can I run a poll and find out who "modified" their setups and who did'nt and why. I thought the whole thing was as a safety feature and now it was done to help us be more consistant. Wada think? Does the poll follows the rules?
  13. Is there something new out there? I had not heard of this change. Happy New Year everyone! I'd also like to know what this plastic new thingee is.
  14. All good advice. " if strange things happen, stop immediately". That's also good dating advice. I intend to just shoot some 250gr ultramax thru my gun and see what happens. There is absolutely no data on a newer 1892 out there. The company isn't even pretending. I'll follow your other good advice and load up 10 at a time and see what happens. I don't cast my own. Do you have any experience with the hard alloy that's out there? Maybe the lazercast. Happy Holidays to you and yours, and Ho, Ho, Ho to the community , and thanks to Brian for hosting this forum.
  15. Hi Dave, Someone (yeah, that famous someone) told me lead bullets over 1000fps will lead out a barrel quickly. Are there fmj .454 or .452 bullets available? Will the harder alloy bullets work OK at higher speed. I'd like to shoot a little higher than some of these anemic cowboy rounds. NO offense to action shooters. I'm SASS myself. Thanks. Joe
  16. Thanks everyone. Now that I've seen your answers I will use the flat nose (thanks again on all the safety tips). Thanks Gman. Excellent article. I can't wait to shoot the 1892. My first rifle. NO short cuts in reloading. I guess I forgot that in the excitement of getting the new gun. Thanks everyone for putting me back on track.
  17. Three things; A. Thanks for the response. B. What do you think of Bad K's answer about the Boom possibility? C. Should I load as if I'm loading pistol(starting low load),with normal COL ,and will large pistol primers do the job? D. OK, 4 things. I can't find any data on a 230 gr bullet.
  18. I have a gazillion hornady 230 gr tmj rd nose bullets that I use for my 1911.These are .451. I am buying a winchester 1892 45 cal. Can I use these for reloading for the rifle? I have unique and 700x powders. Anyone with a recipe and suggestions? Thanks. PS A gazillion is just a little more than a s**t load in new math.
  19. I fixed my primer problem on my 550 with a cheap rubber plumbing pipe attachment. It's shaped like those cup shaped ice cream cones. Put into catcher cup. The cone catches all primers. The rubber shapes easily to the shape of the metal cup All good. If anyone wants a part number I can get it. This really works well.
  20. Thanks but that's the one I have. I'm looking for an expanded version. A more slot A into flap B kind of thing. More putting guns back together for dummies version. Appreciate the response.
  21. Help! I took apart the barrel on a browning semi 22 rifle to clean and lube and can't figure out how the small springs go back in. The schematics with the gun are no help. I can't get the assembly of the barrel adjusting ring follower spring, lock ring, barrel lock spring etc. Forgot rule one, if you can't put it back, don't touch. Any of you gunsmith types have any suggestions? ( the helpfull kinds). Thanks.
  22. Hey Hank, I finally did the dirty with my 550. I like the rivet idea. Mine seems to work just fine with the rod set in the space below the cam thingee. I guess time will tell. Forgive me Dillon for I have sinned, but after being married for 27 years and raising two daughters, I needed it quiet and smooth. Thanks for the advice. If I get bored I can always get a happy face rivet.
  23. Welcome to the forum! I just recently tweaked my 550 to function like the old style (sans anti-cam plate). There is actually a much easier way to do it than drilling out the rivet, removing the plate all together, and reconfiguring the system to function without it... all I did was straighten the bent arm on the plate (the part that catches, on the powder bar, then releases with a slam), then add the powder bar return springs, and voilà! Hey Xfact, Now that's a very simple answer and sure sounds like it works. I can always drill if I get up the energy. I'll record the slam noises in case I miss them. I've gotten so used to the smooth flow of the older style that this new one came as a surprise. If I mess it up I promise Dillon to buy a new one and not try to take advantage of their great warranty. Got some 45 waiting to be born. gotta go. Thanks again for the info and the welcome.
