  1. Building on the "10,000 hours to master a sport" theme, this guy has stopped going to college to pursue 10,000 hours of golf in 5 years to see if he masters the game, he's 2,100 hours in: http://thedanplan.com/
  2. I'll have to check the logbook, but I believe I'm at about 20k rounds and the elevation screw broke in half. This is the first Ed Brown part I have ever broken. Can I drift the rear sight out with the lower half of the elevation screw in place? Or do I have to somehow remove the whole elevation screw first?
  3. I went and had a great time. The pistol match was short, but it's nice to shoot a match, go to a gun show, and watch machine guns shooting all in one day.
  4. I hope the info I posted helps you guys. I failed to mention that I also went to physical therapy for awhile which was kinda funny because I was maxing out their forearm machines. My forearms are very strong, but it seems it was the muscle imbalance that was causing my issues, which every professional overlooked.
  5. I want to relay my experiences with my wrist/forearm issue in case it will help anyone here. I thought my issues were an isolated incident until a friend of mine at Area 8 told me of the same exact issues. I started competing in USPSA 11 years ago, and for the past 10 years I’ve dealt with wrist/forearm pain. The pain was initially localized at the wrist joint and felt like a wrist bone issue. I was incorrectly diagnosed by my general practitioner as having Carpal Tunnel (I did not exhibit any of the typical symptoms, he just diagnosed me with that because I work at a computer, what an ass-clown). I subsequently went to a wrist specialist who ordered an MRI. The MRI did not yield any causes. Life went on and for years I dealt with it. I read these forums and tried some of the things mentioned; you know extensive forearm workouts, and Captains of Crush grippers (I actually already had a very strong grip). None of that worked (in fact the forearm workouts made it worse) and eventually it got even worse and I very gradually lost flexibility in my forearm muscles to the point that I could no longer do push-ups, and starting a stage with palms flat on a wall hurt. At my worse point it was difficult to turn a door knob. My forearm muscles felt constantly in tension and occasionally I had knots in the muscles. So about a year ago I started getting massages once of twice a month (from a big woman, not a sexy young Finnish hottie) and this proved very beneficial, especially after I found a massage therapist who specialized in sports. My flexibility was better and I experienced less pain. But my forearm was, for lack of a better word, very sensitive to overexertion. For instance, if I had to turn a wrench real hard to break a bolt loose it would sometimes make my issue flare up and my forearm would be very stiff and painful for a week or so, therefore I avoided anything overly physical for a week or so before big matches. I felt as though my Man-Card had been revoked. My massage therapist recommended I stretch a lot, so I started doing the “Wrist stretches & forearm muscle stretches” below. This helped a lot, but that sensitivity remained and flexibility was still impaired. http://www.handhealthresources.com/Solutions%20Pages/Exercises.htm I had to replace a leaky water valve in the house and this led to a week of forearm pain. During this time I extensively Googled my issue (can’t find the website) and read that a common forearm issue among athletes is a forearm muscle imbalance and that you should do reverse wrist curls to regain muscle balance. I have been doing the reverse wrist curls and forearm stretches above for my forearm for three weeks now and my issue has disappeared. I feel as though I have my Man-Card back! I have already been able to reduce the frequency of massages, and plan to cut them out altogether because the usual constant tension in my forearm is evaporating. My flexibility is great, pain is gone and my forearm/wrist feels infinitely more stable and less sensitive. I hope this helps someone out there is BE land. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. P.S. I have a similar muscle imbalance with my shoulders and am working on building my posterior deltoids.
  6. Nice vid, that looks like a lot of fun. IMHO the Knob Creek machine gun shoot is one of those experiences every serious gun culture member should see at least once.
  7. I love the old Winchester 52's and 63's, those guns were built to last many generations. Beauty of a gun you have there.
  8. Scores are up. had a lot of fun Great match & great staff. Bill were you in squad 16? If so great shooting with you! Ken Yup, Squad 16, that was me. Great shooting with you Ken!
  9. Great match. I haven't shot in York in 5 years and it was great coming back. Will match results be posted under Major Matches?
  10. Yeah, I think that may have been the group buy I did a long time ago. I didn't like them and ended up selling mine. I run skateboard tape and like it (I have small hands). I run a Caspian in Limited. I don't have any problems with the Caspian mags until they get old and at that point the feed lips widen and that mag becomes junk. I have to replace the Caspian mag springs often because they wear quick. No lube in my mags, but from that other thread on here I may try it with my mags with the wide feed lips (I experience nose dives with those old mags). I like the way the Caspians handle, but I do worry about mag availability if more legislation is put through...
  11. I believe the LE3 code expires on Monday. I used it yesterday and even got 10% on backordered stuff.
  12. Also, are you using the "Enos bend" on the mag spring? I've found that to help even with STI/SVI mags. Chris What is the "Enos bend" on the mag spring???
  13. I really appreciate the offer Seth, but my backup gun just got back from a tune-up, so she's ready to rock-n-roll. I'm gonna shoot the primary gun a time or two before I head south and then make the decision which one I'll end up shooting.
  14. I'm at about 11-12k rounds and the pin started coming out. I restaked it and loctited it. Of course this is mere days before the Florida Open
  15. 10k rounds later I have had zero problems with the EB rear sight.
  16. I'm not doing anything special to the mags to make them run. My OAL is 1.17. I did have some nose dive problems when I went down to an OAL of 1.12.
  17. Great thread, very timely. Open: haven't shot Open in years, but I used to use the old style Caspian mags with EGW basepads and Caspian follower/spring. This combo was VERY reliable for me, and those mags lasted forever. I trimmed the followers so there were no sharp edges. Limited: I've been running a Caspian Limited gun for about 2 years now. I have had good luck with the new Caspian mags (a reloadable 18 rounds), until the mag bodies get used for a season or so then I have issues (bad heat treat possibly); I proactively identify bad mags by measuring the width at the top of the mag. I have had great luck with the Caspian followers/springs, but the springs seem to wear quickly, so I change them often. I have extensively used the Grams followers/spring (a barely reloadable 20 rounds) and inevitably get mysterious malfunctions, so I've dumped them. I just today tried Arredondo followers/springs which are a non-reloadable 20 rounds, but they have a very stiff spring so I'm flirting with the idea of trimming a coil. Anyone running the Arredondo follower/spring in Limited? If so, have you trimmed a coil?
  18. I heard that Lipoflavonoid vitamins would help. Be forewarned it's $30 a month and it takes 6 months of taking them to tell if they help.
  19. I found really good advice on these forums when it was time to buy a new electric razor, thanks. Now it's time for a new beard trimmer. I keep my goatee fairly short, but I hate the lack of fidelity with the lengths of my current beard trimmer: really short, medium length, or mountain man long. Which make and model do you guys recommend?
  20. I'm unsure of the legality of this, but I found a pdf version of Unintended Consequences: http://members.cox.net/zack3g/unintended%20consequences.pdf
