  1. Original main spring weight is most definitely not 17 nor 15. It is heavier and I think it probably is closer to 19 or in the 20's
  2. The RIA is almost like a clone of the Para frame. I say almost as it is not quite the same unfortunately. The angle of the mouth at the corners is different. While you might not be able to simply drop in the magwell, its nothing that a gunsmith can make it work.
  3. Nothing to do with one caliber having a flatter trajectory
  4. Not sure if this is the proper forum but since its all about 1911 style pistols, I thought it would be the place. I am wanting to have a dedicated steel challenge 1911 or 2011 pistol for limited division. I am undecided though what caliber is best suited as I only need to run minor loads here. I would like to know what caliber would you choose over the other and why?
  5. #3 spring? Is that 3 lbs you mean? I was using 4 lbs striker spring, stock trigger and I get light strikes.
  6. Eric, I have done all of the steps you have detailed with the exception of item 5 as I could not find one readily available in our local store. I will try it out in the next few days and cross fingers that it has eliminated the light strikes as well.
  7. Its an on and off thing. It ran smoothly one day with over 150 rounds and then having two light strikes in another day.
  8. I have had a similar situation as you as of late. Glock 17 with 3 ports on top ad 2 on the side, 11 lb recoil spring and 4 lb firing pin spring with zev 2lb connector, stock firing pin. There are times I get light strikes while sometimes it just runs really great. I will now try a heavier firing pin spring (back to stock spring) and I am 99.9% that it would eliminate the light strikes however, I can already feel a heavier trigger. Apart from purchasing the full zev trigger kit, is there any other remedy to achieve a light trigger but eliminate light strikes?
  9. Great, thanks. That makes it fairly easy then to just swap the red dots. Cheers
  10. I have the fast fire 2 mounted on my open pistol on a BB carver mount via two screws, supplied by Bobby Carver that directly attach the fastfire to the mount. In short there is no picatinny rail in between which makes it sit really close to the bore axis. I am wanting to upgrade to a fastfire 3 but would like to use the same mounting system, which will allow me to swap the two just in case one gets broken, I would now have a spare to swap during international competitions. My question: Is the screw area located in the same place that will allow me to achieve this? Unfortunately I have no way of actually testing this and thought someone would have come across this situation? Would appreciate any inputs.
  11. I have a carver mount and JR macro holster which I carved out until the pistol seated correctly. It has been working great for me.
  12. What do you mean its hanging up? Are you referring to the inside? All you need to do is file the bottom edges of the follower to make it smoother to transition from the mag wall to the TF wall.
  13. you need to find the proper recoil spring weight to make it work for minor loads. I have just used the Zev 12 lb spring and it is cycling using factory ammo. Some I have heard have used 11 lb springs as well
  14. TF works great, hand down.
  15. I currently have the Blue Zev, but I have an ISMI 11 lb on order, but dont no ETA down here, which could take months...I got to test fire it already and the casings appear to barely just eject. Last round always sees the casing just tumbling on top of the pistol. Fine for now as long as it doesnt jam.
  16. when racking by hand and obviously slower than when it is actually cycling a round, the spring is kinda noisy in there too.
  17. Thanks....the coils of the zev rounded spring is a bit like a snake coiling when sitting on the guide rod isnt it. unlike the original glock recoil spring which is a flat spring and has a smaller circumference its almost pretty much straight. I hope this is normal.
  18. For those using the zev springs, I just got mine in....confused now - one end has a coil smaller and the other end is larger. So, which one goes near the muzzle and which is at the rear?
  19. No but it is close to a carver comp but the last comp has a smaller chamber with multiple smaller ports. I had it made to order.
  20. The project (pic above) so far with 2 main ports then one smaller port and one on each side
  21. Just an update, changed the spring and its good as new, mags are snug and good to go again. Now Im beginning to think if I should actually have a spare mag catch among the spare parts that I bring along during competitions.
  22. You can run factory loads but the amount of gases produced by the load isn't enough to make the comp work properly. I suppose in order to maximize potential of having a comp, it does require a major pf load but even running say low pf such as factory loads, the comp will still do what it is designed to do isnt it, and that would be to expel gases upward and through the ports, so it would still help reduce recoil.
  23. Ive only tried so far a 15 lb spring and it slightly moves the slide back causing almost like a stove pipe jam
  24. What manufacturers do 11 lbs or even lighter (i.e. 8,9 lbs) apart from ISMI? So is it not possible to run factory 9mm loads with a comp?
