  1. Im not sure what its called but must be somewhat a zen state. I had experienced shooting an el presidente and all I had focused on was making the proper turn, draw and seeing the sights each timeI squeezed the trigger. Made the reload and shooting the targets once more. For some reason at the time I was shooting, it felt like all was somewhat slow motion, i.e. seeing sights and lifting off, coming back down etc. Although I wore earplugs, which typically still gave me a modest gun fire sound, in this instance I could barely hear anything right after the buzzer until it was time to show clear. I thought at that moment that I must have been very slow but only to find out in the end that I had the fastest el prez among 20 shooters in our club that day. I had since tried to analyse what has happened and have been trying to replicate that conditions. Sometime I succeed, some not.
  2. I'll look for someone in the range that has it and try it out before drilling and tapping on mine
  3. It would be interesting to find out if there is real benefit from these thumb rests/ gas pedals. I maybe wrong but I dont think I have seen any of the "top guns" use these ?
  4. Yea they were 'drop in', the only thing I did to them was trim the follower edge to prevent the slide from prematurely locking back. Are you using STI or SV tubes? Using STI tubes.
  5. That would be fantastic! Thanks for the offer but I'm not quite sure if you would be able to as I am based in New Zealand, though exported the sight from the US. I'd be able to send it out from here but, dont know if it would get through the US border.
  6. Thanks all for the help. I'll give the lock tite a go. Brass shims...I will look into them too...I presume you placed locktite between the sight and the brass shim and also between the brass and the slide....
  7. I bought a fiber optic front sight Brazos sight for my STI. Since it was oversized, I started to file it at the bottom and on one of the side (I now know I shouldnt be filing on the side - read somewhere that there was a risk of changing the dimensions, and found this out after I have already done it!) So the end result was I filed too much and the sight appears to not be touching the entire dovetail groove as I may have changed the angle. Its touching the corner tip but could see some gaps. Though it appears to be holding but a light tap could easily drift it off alignment and Im worried that it may not hold when firing. My question is, so are the sights now stuffed and I need to get a new one since I may have taken too much material and changed the angles or can it still be saved by some gunsmithing work? I dont want to change dimensions on the STI slide as I may want to change the sights again in the future. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. So, the SVI followers and springs can be used in an STI mag tube? Did you have to make any changes to the followers?
  9. Are the grams "drop in" or did you have to do anything?
  10. I'm wanting to try out the Grams 11 coil spring/ follower combination. Anyone know where I can purchase one that would ship internationally, as I'm not in the U.S.
  11. Let us know how your Taran's compare with the Grams ones you have them.
  12. What about grams? Will they also provide te same round count? So there isn't really any difference and its a matter of choice then
  13. I've had a Para P16 and have always put a shok buff on it. I have seen the shok buff get smashed up after a few hundreds of rounds, which I would have thought, if I had not put it in there, that would have been the force that would have gone straight to the frame. So somewhat a frame saver and pistol life extender - maybe. My previous Colt Gold Cup also had a shok buff just for peace of mind as well. With the RM, with its new design, Im just unsure. I also noticed that the old RM which I have is rounded unlike the pic of the new one above.
  14. Are Bolen, Taran Tactical and Grams followers all the same? Will they all result to the same round count assuming all else is the same? I am using an STI tube 126mm and a JR base pad to fit into an IPSC box. So far I've got the Bolen follower and Bolen 11 coil spring and am achieving 17 rounds which is very tight and is likely a starter mag than a reload mag. I have heard some achieving 18 rounds. Perhaps I have got a wrong combination? How do I get 18 or more? I have read somewhere here that a 19 is also achievable from a Grams and cutting the spring. Anyone with first hand experience on this?
  15. Thanks. I suppose as long as it doesn't affect it's operation.
  16. I realize that most of those that are able to achieve 20 rounds refer to USPSA rules. Not wanting to hijack this thread but just wanting to know if those that are using the wedge base pads for IPSC standard division which needs to fit the IPSC box - how many rounds do you get? I have used the wedge base pad, bolen followers and springs on an STI 126mm tube, and could only put in 17 rounds and while it appears to be reloadable, it is very hard to put into the gun. Is 17 rounds then normal? I had to compare, that my Para p16-40 is able to get in 18 rounds with ease.
  17. Could you elaborate please? Do you mean I should put some lube, i.e. break free inside the mags, particularly on the ribs?
  18. the problem I have is that the rounds are getting crimped when I load up 17 rounds on 40cal. Im wanting to avoid this.
  19. Im not extremely confident to do this as it sounds like a hit and miss. If its a ribs, should I be filing that away?
  20. If I load 14 rounds, which is the factory setting, the rounds dont get crimped but if I load it full 17 rounds, some rounds get crimped. I can imagine what STI will say, and that their mags are built for 14 rounds really.
  21. A novice question on RM's I got a new sti edge and it came with the RM. do I need to put a shokbuf on it as I intend to give it steady major loads. Thanks
  22. Probably no effect in function but when I cut mine, it had resulted to the end of the spring being very sharp that it scraped on the FLGR leaving a huge straight like scar after hundred of rounds.
  23. If I put back the original internals, it doesnt do that but of course I want to increase round count, which appears to result to these. I guess, the question is - is this normal or is there anything that needs to be done? Should I cut the 11 coil spring?
