  1. jediwarrior Can a tungsten barrel be fitted nicely by a gunsmith if I send the barrel and slide only without the frame? Reason is if the pistol is in another country.
  2. I am running 6.1 grains of HS-6 over a Montana gold 124 JHP at an OAL of 1.10. Power factor is a little higher. I had to run it up a little higher to get 100% function out of my gun. How much HS-6 are you running to get 127 PF Do you run your load on a comp'd gun? My load is 6.0 gr on HS6; used on a 3 port comp. OAL 1.130. Chrono was on a cloudy day.
  3. Thanks Jediwarrior, Is the first pic the finished product already after the cutting?
  4. Can you show a pic of the inside of the slide that mates with the tungsten sleeved barrel? Interested to see how much material is carved out.
  5. Thanks for the inputs. Peter, your load suggests a pf of 130, which is almost identical to the load I have, although I use 124 gr projectiles, HS6 powder that produced pf of 127. Currently running this with a 3 port comp, using 11 lb recoil spring, the casings just about ejects to the side barely
  6. I have built an open glock from a G17 and wanting to use it for a steel challenge match. I have the option of either 1. shoot lower power 9mm ammo - which resembles factory ammo and cycles in the gun with the spent cases almost just dropping out 3 inches off to the side, with the change in recoil spring. This however I experience a muzzle rise with the dot getting off the plates entirely then back; Or 2. crank up the load which increases the perceived recoil but making the gun shoot flatter with the dot still moving out but almost instantly gets back into a target. Obviously I dont need to shoot the steel twice (hopefully if I dont miss) and would have needed the next shot anyway on the next target however between the two, what would you choose for a steel match?
  7. This is interesting, Jediwarrior suggests that when the barrel is tungsten sleeved, the recoil spring will have to be reduced. Did I understand that correctly? Is it because the slide will reduce in overall weight because of the cutting/ milling required to accommodate the sleeve?
  8. Is there a reference somewhere I could find out whether other powders act similarly as titegroup or if they are reverse? Im using Win231 and HS6 and would be interested if they are the type that are reverse (i.e. higher pf on cold weather and lower pf on hot weather)?
  9. Anyone know which is better, a longer OAL so that the projectile is closer to engage the rifling or shorter OAL which means there is a gap and the projectile will have to "jump" before engaging the rifling of the pistol. With all things equal, meaning it fits in the mag, functionality it works, feeds reliably, which OAL will produce a better accuracy?
  10. I have had very good success with 231 since loading 45's and now loading 40's I have decided to stay with this powder. The accuracy I am getting with this has been very good. HS6 as I thought is a slow burner and as such I have only used that for 9mm major.
  11. Bong, Those made by Metrillo are Tungsten sleeved now? Do they cut the slide inside so the tungsten sleeve can fit I presume?
  12. I am trying to determine which is a preferred manner of increasing power factor just a tad. I am loading 40 S&W and wanting to make sure that I will consistently pass any chrono and for that I have always wanted to have that extra margin above the specified pf, which in this case is 170 for IPSC standard division. My current load is achieving a pf171 and since that for me is too close to the minimum major pf, I am wanting to at least reach a pf173'ish to maybe somewhere in the pf175's ensure that I pass no matter what chrono is used. My OAL is longer for 2011 pistols which is currently at 1.170. The powder charge I use is above SAAMI specs already using win231 5.4; 180gr CMJ. A different load of 5.2 at 180gr lead gives a pf180 at OAL 1.156. My question is should I consider reducing OAL which will increase pressure and perhaps give me that extra lift in pf or would you just stick to the OAL that you have and simple add another 0.1grain which will still take you farther out of SAAMI specs. Both OAL's feed properly on my 2011 pistol. Any thoughts appreciated.
  13. Dont tungsten sleeved barrels make the gun heavier? I suppose with practice, target transitions using a traditional 2011 pistol with a bull barrel vs the tungsten sleeved one, would be immaterial.
  14. If for competition use, you will be shooting alot of ammo and for longevity, I would suggest a steel frame over aluminum. If its purely a duty gun, it wont be shot as much as and they are a plus in humid conditions.
  15. I am planning to have a steady diet of major pf on my open glock. To those of you who use this platform, do you recommend the installation of a shok buff? I have these on my 2011 and its understandably it is supposed to reduce metal to metal battering. For a glock however, its metal to polymer (I think) and not entirely sure of the merits of having one. However, I do want the firearm to last me as long as it can. Any thoughts appreciated
  16. I just found out that there is heaps of HP38 and I think they are just one and the same as the Win231.
  17. Thanks for the responses. Well it seems that my luck ran out as 231's have all gone at the moment. While waiting I will try titegroup and the loads suggested.
  18. I am wanting to reload 40 S&W 180 gr CMJ RNFP's and wanting a versatile yet accurate powder to use. I have limited powder choice based on what is abudnantly available in the region and have narrowed down the choice to what I think would be most suited. The options I am considering is Win231, Titegroup, AP50, AP70. What would you recommend to be the better of the four?
  19. Thanks for your interest but I plan to put the Fast fire 3 on my open gun and then put the fast fire 2 on my ruger 22/45 which I will use for steel challenge rimfire matches.
  20. Im doing 1.145 OAL. ok, may stick to 124 gr then.
  21. While on this topic, does anyone have a minor 40 s&w load on an hs6 powder? Intend to use on steel challenge 40 STI edge can bring recoil spring down to 8 lbs 180gr CMJ RNFP Powder HS6 Whats a good powder charge?
  22. Anyone using HS6 for 9major? Can you share your load to get to PF160 and experience? I am undecided as to whether I should be using 124 gr projectiles or 147 gr. Which is better. 124 gr HS6 7.9 is my recipe at the moment. I have yet to Chrono. 147gr HS6 6.5 (yet to chrono)
  23. Are your loads "hot"? Sounds like primer flow. An extended firing pin will solve this
  24. I find the thumb rest on the slide stop too much on the rear as I must have long thumbs that I need the *thumb rest [generic]* slightly farther to the front of the slide stop. Unfortuantely, I do not want to drill holes on my STI and I thought what a wonderful idea to build the *thumb rest [generic]* on the slide stop. I just wish someone would build one still on the slide stop but extended out by 1/4 of an inch towards the front.
  25. Bolen and Grams followers work for me in my 40 cal.
