  1. 6'4" and 310.....I'd rather shoot two Texas Stars than low ports or prone. Once I go down to the ground, I'm not coming up until the ULSC is issued.
  2. All three sound legal to me. Along with 2.1.6, Rule 2.1.4 states "Each competitor must be allowed to solve the competitive problem in his own way and must nobe hindered by being forced to act in any manner hich might cause unsafe action. Targets must be arranged so that shooting at them on an "as and when visibile" basis will not cause competitors to breach safe angles of fire." You stated the WSB didn't specify where you had to shoot the targets from, so as long as the "open" shots were not unsafe, then it sounds all good to me.
  3. I guess it would have helped reading the directions. I have the ProChrono Digital. So I'll have to check out that review button. Yes, I was using the barrel for a case gauge. I have the Dillon case gauge and found that with the MG124 JHP with an OAL of 1.117 the round will easily fall free of the gauge, but will not fall free from the barrel. At 1.116 it will. When I finally set the die, i was at 1.115, so i'm good to go there.
  4. I only peeked at it...I actually chose to steal your wallet instead! Seriously though, thank you all for the data. Looks like I'm on the right path. Just need to tweak a thing or two and hopefully test another batch before this week's match.
  5. No, how do I figure that out? I found an SD calculator on line, and it said 9.82 I shot strings of about 20, but unfortunately, after the first several readings, I did a quick calculation on my Blackberry's calculator, and must have made a mistake, because I was thinking i was under 125 for most readings. Duh! So I stopped writing down the readings. CZ SP01
  6. I went to the range today and fired off about 75 of my very first batch of reloads, so I have a few questions. My batch was: Winchester once fired brass 9mm 124 MG JHP Win Primers Titegroup 4.0gr OAL 1.115 When I was shooting it was about 91 degrees. I was about 7-10 feet from the chrono. I got the following velocities: 1044,1027, 1031, 1056, 1038, 1033, 1021, 1043, 1044, 1021, 1033 I shot some WWB 115FMJ under the same conditions, for a comparsion, I got: 1179, 1174, 1187, 1200 Questions: 1 - How much will the heat affect the performance? Would I have gotten higher fps if it was cooler, or lower? 2 - Is it normal to have that much variance in readings? I would have thought from the same batch the readings would have been more similar? 3 - Based on my calculatons, I got PF's 126.6 up to 130.944. Average was 128.4. If going to a major match, I'd rather have some breathing room, so I'd like to go a litter hotter. Should I go up .1 or .2 grains?
  7. As an ex Yankee I couldn't agree more! Born and raised in NY/NJ area. After two years in SC, I can say I have no desire to move back. Just have to remember a few things: It gets hot down here ( played golf with a buddy here today in 90 degree heat, all I heard from him was, "Man it's hot." my reply, "yeah, i guess so" ) People say Please, Thank You, Sir, Maam....it's a nice way to live And the plural of Y'all is All Y'all Other than that, enjoy! Sorry for the drift. For the question what else to do for the class. Listen, and drop the preconceived notions. Learn the rules as taught. Whether it's George, Troy, or whomever, I'd rather go by what someone who travels the country teaching the info instead of "my buddy told me this is the correct way".
  8. I'm like a sponge trying to absorb everything so I'm glad you kept the thread alive asking another question. In fact, i was going to ask the same thing!
  9. Yes, the rules changes that were effective 3/1/2010. And yes, they are on the website. But until I took the class, that is exactly where they stayed...on the website. First thing they do in the class is hand you a copy of the revised rules and suggest you tape/glue stick them in to the front of your rulebook.
  10. I started with a little Arts and Crafts before I worked on the test Monday night. I taped the new rules into the front of the book. Plus, my own recommendation, put a Star or something else next to the "old" version of the rule in the book so you know to reference the revision you have put in the front. Otherwise when you're looking at a rule, you won't remember there is a revision. This helped during the test because a few questions, I believe, were phrased taking the revision into consideration. Good luck, and after you are done, go back and double check your work. I found I quoted a few rules incorrectly. I got distracted a few times while taking it and referenced the rule above or below by mistake ( ie: 10.2.4 instead of 10.2.5 ) I knew the answer, but wrote the wrong rule when I typed it in. Saved myself at least 5 or 6 incorrect answers.
  11. Title says it all. I'm brand new to reloading, just got a 550B. I'm trying to dial it in and have a few questions. As I'm new, I want to make sure my first trip out to the range to test my loads doesn't end in disaster. Background: Using Win Small Primers, Titegroup, 9mm MG 124JHP. Using a CZ SP01 with 4.7in barrel I'm still trying to make sure the OAL and crimp are right. I believe I have the crimp set OK, just enough to take the bell out from the seating die. My quesiton is OAL. I've seen other SP01 shooters stating 1.125 OAL with MG124JHP, and other data with no gun specified with OAL up to 1.135. When I seat the round at 1.117" the bullet will fit the Dillon case gauge fine, but it will not fall freely out of the barrel ( using barrel as case gauge ). If I go down to 1.116, it will fall free. Is that a safe OAL for this combo, was planning on using 4.0gr of TG. How low of an OAL can I go down to and be safe? Can I go down to 1.100? If I do, should I reduce the powder charge? Thanks in advance for the help.
  12. Couple of guys at my range use this Brass Wizard After trying theirs, I bought one myself. Works great.
  13. I'll second ( or third ) that comment. It was a long drive from Greenville,SC but it was well worth it. I look forward to putting the knowledge and skills to use at my local match. Sent in my final exam last night, so I'm eager to see how I did.
  14. Years ago I had a Japanese boss. She spoke English, but not very well. I'd find my self speaking louder and louder when she didn't understand me. Until a coworker would tap me on the shoulder and say "Chief....slower...not louder"
  15. I just took the course this past weekend with George Jones. Excellent class! Was well worth the time. Looking forward to putting the skills to use at my home club. I believe the attached scans from the workbook are what you are asking for. I scanned as PDF, but it was too large to upload, and I can't get Winzip to work. So I've loaded the scans as Jpegs on Photobucket. If you'd like me to email you the PDF, please PM me and I'll be happy to.
  16. Not relying on You Tube or DVD's. I just like to have the most amount of information I can get my hands on. I plan on setting up the 550 per the instructions that came with the unit. I simply asked if there is anything on the DVD that isn't in the instructions. The YouTube videos are nice video visuals to back up the written instructions.
  17. I just found these videos the other day, and bookmarked them. He makes it look very easy. I liked that in the beginning he says something like "the instructional video is good, but I'll show you some setup tips they dont", or something like that. Thanks for the info though.
  18. After waiting forever...OK, only 7 days.....my new 550 finally arrived today. Arrived around 5:45pm, and I was heading out to a baseball game at 6pm. Needless to say, it was painful sitting there at the game knowing there were boxes at home waiting to be opened! So I get home and start unpacking. I've had a few beers, so I know I'm not going to try and install the whole thing. I grabbed the packing list to make sure I got everything, and lo and behold, the instructional DVD was not in the box, it's on backorder. Damn! As I am new to reloading, I was planning on sitting down and watching that from start to finish to really get to know my new equipment. So my questions to you are: 1 - Does the DVD explain how to set up the machine, or do you need to rely solely on the instructions that came with it? I realize i need to still watch it, and will when I get it before i start reloading, but I want to at least get the machine set up. Am I missing any good setup info by not watching the video? 2 - Does anyone have the 550 DVD and would be kind enough to loan me theirs until I get mine? ( I'm going to call Dillon tomorrow and see how long the wait should be ) But if you're in the Greenville/Spartanburg, SC area I'd be happy to swing by and pick it up. Otherwise I'd be willing to pay the shipping costs. Thanks!
  19. I am new to USPSA and was reviewing the rule book recently. I stumbled across the rule book section below, then saw the above post. Are 'early' walk throughs legitimate? I see it happens at our club level matches, but is it allowed at regional matches? I could read 8.7.3 to be live fire, but it is under 8.7, which deals with sight pictures and range inspection. 8.7 Sight Pictures and Range Inspection 8.7.3 No person is permitted to enter or move through a course of fire without the prior approval of a Range Officer assigned to that course of fire or the Range Master. Those that have been doing this a lot longer than myself can speak to the rules of of walking through a stage prior, I can only give you my personal experience. At Area 6 this year, I was shooting on Friday so I went to the range on Thursday night. Not only were there a lot of guys walking the stages, most of the staff RO'ing the next day were there. Some of the stage designers. They were encouraging walk throughs and one even gave me what he thought the best way to run the stage was. As he being the designer, and me being relatively new...I was all ears! As for the day of shooting, guys that were shooting Saturday were walking the stages when a squad finished up. A few times when we got to a stage, guys not shooting that day were still walking through. For the most part the RO's shooed them away, but a few times I had to wait while guys were in the way. That got a little annoying.
  20. For those that mentioned it, yes, I did order the SM. I have considered this. Thankfully the bench is rock solid. After mounting the loader though, if there is still some wiggle, I will definitely figure a way to tie it into the wall. Thanks for the advice though.

  22. Wow! I logged in today thinking there may be one or two replies, but 20 so far?! Thank you. My initial thought was on the far right, but now based on the responses I'm thinking just the left of far right. That leaves room for the components as a few of you suggested. Those were the kinds of things I was hoping someone would mention that I wasn't thinking of. Thank you all. Looking forward to setting it up, starting to reload, and then adding my picture to the "show us your reloading setup" post!
  23. Brand new to reloading and ordered my 550B from Brian the other day and eagerly awaiting its arrival. My question to everyone, especially 550B owners is...What is the best position of the reloader on the bench? Far right, far left..dead center? Is there an advantage or disadvantage to mounting on one side or the other? I don't want to go drilling holes in my bench and then realize that I was better off mounting it on the other side. I know it will all come to down to preference, but I figured asking those that have been doing this awhile would be a good place to start. To give you an idea of my setup, here is a picture of the bench right after I built it. Any advice, food for thought, etc is welcome. Thanks
  24. Have you checked out the USPSA website? USPSA Bottom right of main page you can put in a zip or State code and it will list all the clubs. Most have websites you can link directly to that will give you all of their info ( directions, match schedules, etc ). sorry..MLM beat me to it while i was editing my post.
  25. At Area 6, one of the stages required you to either: 1 - Hit two pepper poppers from the start box, 25 yards away, through a 1 foot gap between two barrels, or 2 - Halfway through the COF, If you were lefty, lean out through a port and take them from about 15 yards, no obstructions To shoot them from the port righty required a skinny person(which i am not), to lean way out and shoot back to the right. It was only a slight lean for a lefty. This is just one example. I shoot with a lefty shooter, so I see a lot of different ways to shoot stages because he has a different angle when he shoots. The issue is though, how proficient are you with the weak hand? If you are, say 50-75% as accurate, then you're right, not worth it. However, since you have some unique experience with paintball, you may be accurate enough to pull off some of those shots.
