  1. Should be in the mid 80's. Not quite M, I'd guess
  2. So when was the last time the minimum caliber was lowered?
  3. With these new rules, what about those 'start-off-a-light' stages? If you space that, you get a free retry. Even better, if it's one of those 'depending on what happens (light, card, etc), shoot a different set of targets' stages, you can plan for one and if the other shows, don't do anything and get to try again free.
  4. Yeah, but do they make NT 10mm? Small-primer 10 would rock! I'd even put up with a crimp for that. And on a different note, do we really need large pistol primers anymore (assuming we could magically swap over all the brass already out there)? 454 Casull uses small (rifle) primers, so if you can ignite that lot, you should be able to ignite anything with a small primer. 5. Also, if you prefer alkaline to lithium, there are some larger batteries that can be disassembled to reveal alky LR-44 or 1/3N-size cells. I think I posted it here someplace last summer.
  6. Also check into Airsofts-- I have a Gas-operated Glock 18 that's darn near identical to a real one except for the bright orange barrel and that it shoots plastic BB's. You can even lock the magazine so the slide'll cycle, but nothing comes out.
  7. My used 1050 came without the ratchet parts. I called Dillon and they said "You don't really need that". I believe Super 1050's don't even have it. It's supposed to make sure you fully cycle the handle every time, but is a pain if you need to fix anything.
  8. Very cool.. Too bad you can't save stages, but it rocks for quick designs.
  9. Actually there have been runs of small-primer .45 brass in the past, but most of them were so long ago that you don't see them often.
  10. I was squadded with Jerry at Area 4 one year. I swear he has a 20-shot revolver and just drops an empty moon clip every so often. I'm trying to remember his reload, but I think he stays hanging onto it with his strong hand and uses the WH for manipulation and getting the new clip. He did a little revolver clinic and was dropping clips into his 625 from chin height, with the revolver at his waist. Space Alien, I tell you.
  11. Quote: from spook on 7:52 am on Dec. 8, 2002 billboy, would you recommend the Miculek grips to people with large hands? I'don't like my Hogue monogrips. They're too "sticky". Well, the Miculek grips sure aren't 'sticky'. Jerry likes to be able to shift the gun around. His grips are fairly thin in width, but front-to-back they're about the same as the Hogues (w/o the finger grooves)
  12. I have heard that a downside to the square FP stops is they stress the hammer pin and associated frame holes much more. That said, I've run the square EGW stops in my open guns for many many thousands of rounds without problems.
  13. [Ack.. duplicate post deleted] (Edited by shred at 9:26 pm on Dec. 8, 2002)
  14. I've also indoor-chroned using one of those halogen work-lights aimed at the ceiling above the chrono-- the light bouncing off was enough to operate it. Lately Chronoman has been using what looks like a dual-CED setup in a light box, but like cars, variations between individuals in a brand are probably larger than the variations between brands..
  15. I saw some today at a gun show that weren't the full pewter ones, but had american eagles and stars and ribbons and the lot all over them. I managed to forget the name of the distributor, but it was somewhere in AZ.
  16. Well, except that there are many many varieties of brass and copper alloys (nobody's using 100% copper for IPSC bullets), plus all sorts of heat-treatment, hardening and softening methods. So, you can't just say "Brass is harder than copper...". 'Taint necessarily so. Somebody'll have to poke some representative bullets with a brinnell tester before anybody can make relative hardness claims. Besides, if a barrel wears out in say 50,000 rounds instead of 60,000, what difference does it make? Save $5/K and you've saved $250 for another barrel.. out of the $2000+ you've already spent on jacketed bullets. Pick whatever you like and works for you and don't worry about it. 17. Dremel away.. it's nothing a $90 piece of plastic won't fix. A sharp knife also works pretty well. Alternatively remove the followers, sharpen the front end of your mags and go do a lot more reload practice..
  18. I was toying around with Brian's "Watching the fan blades" idea as well as some other ideas and started experimenting with looking about 10% below where I wanted the sights to end up after the draw. What I noticed was I picked up the sights more consistently and landed them where they needed to be more easily. I'm concerned it might be a tad slower since the eyes have to move up the target, but the consistency improvements has me thinking..
  19. A gun fires. A shooter shoots. (and sometimes says "Shoot, I wasn't supposed to shoot that no-shoot"
  20. It's bad in Open and even worse in Limited.. there are all of two GM and four M scores in the 2500 I looked at.
  21. The top guys can use the sights just as quickly as they can point shoot-- with a good index, the sights are there anyway. I've seen Todd & co shoot .14 splits and be able to call shots with precision. Maybe they'd point shoot something they couldn't otherwise index onto, but that would be a rare exception.
  22. As somewhat present for those (or similar) conversations, I understand that Dave does prefer to use a cut down long-wide frame (or use a short-wide one, I suppose) for his 'miniguns'. Why, I have no idea.
  23. Todd definately teaches 'Head up', FWIW
  24. I think at some point we need to put our collective feet down and say "Sorry, that's the way it is". Otherwise we'll either end up with .22 Short because East Elbonia can't shoot anything else, or shooters firing ion guns at the speed of light to make major (hard to score those targets, you know) My opinion is that 9mm is a reasonable stopping point, so let's stop there. Local rules and bodies can handle the fringe cases.
  25. Now you're talking Second Amendment-- which clause modifies and applies to what... Your clarification is a good thing. You might want to add the typical "or any other unsafe direction.. " language to your modification.
