Dave Arnold passed away today as a result of injuries suffered in a car wreck. For those who don't know, Dave started USPSA. It was his brain child. I remember the day back in the early 80’s like it was yesterday. We all were hanging around after a match, having a cold drink and talking about IPSC. Dave wasn’t happy with some things the World body was doing and he said, “The United States should start its own Practical Shooting Association!” We all turned and looked at Dave sitting on the tailgate of my truck. So, I asked, “O.K. Dave, so what are we going to call it?” To which he said, “The United States Practical Shooting Association!” We all cheered and said, “Yeah!” The rest, as they say, is history. The 2007 SGN match was such a success that we are going to be holding monthly matches at the Tactical Shooting Academy in Virginia starting again in March. We are also going to host the 2008 "Street Gun Nationals" here again in October... At the SHOT Show in Vegas we were well received as we personally thanked all the sponsors we could find. And we even met some new ones who wanted to support this new shooting sport. So, the prize tables for 2008 Match will be even bigger!! Glock even had the two solid pewter trophies that Dave Sevigny won on display at the SHOT Show in Vegas along with the rest of TEAM Glock's 2007 winnings: TLast year, we broke the handguns down into (3) basic gun divisions: Full Size, Mid Size and Compact. Other awards (solid polished pewter Beer Stines ) were given out for SMG, Top Cop, Top Military, Top Lady, Top Gimp, Top Sr., etc. This year we will also recognize Top Single Stack and Top Revolver as well. As usual, ALL merchandise prizes (including handguns) will be given out by the "Luck of the draw". We'll have many more guns and prizes to give away this year. Are these results out of order, or is that my imagination? Shouldn't a 200 beat a 300?? It look like they are sorted by Stage 9, instead of the match total, maybe ? Yeah, I screwed that up... Sorry! You are right Len. Nice guy, nice wife, cool motor home. IIRC he was a factory sponsored USPSA shooter for EAA back in the 80's but gave up shooting for the past 18 years and just recently got back into the sport. He came in second by 8 seconds but had some issues with his gun feeding properly on several stages. If his gun runs 100% he probably wins. I know the guy you're talking about. We (my wife and I) just had dinner with and him and his wife about an hour ago... What you don't know is that he also had a "White Throat Moniter" (no shitte, he actually had two!! ) and he has shot World Record animals in Africa with a bow (I've seen the pics and have been invited over to his house for dinner after the "Street Gun Nationals". He's working as a Range Safety Officer for me during the match . He also had a Belgium Malinois Dog that was World Champion. I wouldn't wanna break in to this guys RV and I wouldn't want to really screw with him either, he'll just kill you and feed you to his pets... Kinda of really WEIRD but cool guy that makes your hair stand up on end at times... Why is it I like that?? Must be the Tattoos his wife had of animals eating people... Later, D.R. Middlebrooks

We have some really nice, polished, solid pewter trophies for the gun division winners: And these polished pewter tankards for other the categories: And of course we'll have some guns and merchandise prizes that will be awarded by the luck of the draw, too. The stages and props are done and we're holding a warm-up match this weekend (Oct. 13 & 14). You can shoot one or both days. Everyone is welcome and everyone gets a fair shake at our matches. FWIW: I truly believe that the shooter is the customer. And while I will not tolerate cheating, I will also not tolerate the Range Nazi mentality that I have seen at some other matches in the past. Seems to be some confusion... You DO NOT have to be here for ALL (4) days of the match. You can shoot ONE gun division per day (max of two gun divisions can be entered) and it will take approx. 200 rounds per day, per entry. You can shoot any day, Thursday - Sunday, just let us know what day you want to shoot. FIST-FIRE is not just "one way of holding and shooting a handgun", it's a complete system of shooting. It's not one dimensional, it's multifaceted... That said, in F-F we use an entire sequence of natural "progressions" of different shooting presentations,and most especially the Reverse Weaver (we also have various "default" levels of weapons presentation, too). But the most commonly used shooting position in the F-F system is the "Reverse Weaver". Look at the Fist-Fire book, look at page 40 in AH mag, look at my DVD's, you'll see it. You can actually go back as far as 2000 and see it in Combat Handguns magazine article on F-F and see it explained quite clearly. FWIW: GM shooter Ricks Simes uses the Reverse Weaver quite extensively (he's also happens to be one of the best F-F Instructors I have in my camp ). Bottom Line: Rick and I both agree, that when shooting and moving in IDPA or IPSC type matches, we "flow in and out" of different levels of weapons presentation, flowing in and out of different shooting positions. And the RW is the most common one we use...and there are many variations of it, all based upon the amount of forward extension (push out) we need. Cheers, D.R.

To the untrained eye, maybe. But I wrote the book on this particular subject. And I know it (the"Reverse Weaver" technique) when I see it (if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and sounds like duck, it's a duck. ). I shot with Chris at the IDPA Nat's a few years back and he was on my squad. He was shooting Mod Iso as I recall back then. Bottom Line: If Top Shooters like Chris Tilley and Julie Goloski are coming to the same conclusions as I did back in late '98 I think this is great! Whether or not they got it from me doesn't matter. Reverse Weaver... If you look at the 2007 Nov/Dec. issue of American Handguner on page 40 there is a picture of Chris Tilley. He is using what appears to be a text book perfect "Reverse Weaver" (ala Fist-Fire) technique. And also notice the two empty cases just outside of the ejection port. Now that's recoil control.
