  1. Phil, the only problem with that is we in the PRK still have to buy a complete gun. Can't just buy a frame to build it up. It would be nice if SV could sell the complete gun, then give a refund for all the parts that get stripped off of it. They can then use the parts to build another Kalifornia gun.
  2. bird, good luck finding one in PRK. The only way to get one is through a private party. No frames allowed under the stupid law. About the only hi-cap 1911 you can buy is the Para's. So essentially you end up buying a complete gun and stripping it down and building it back up with new components. Not the best way to customize a 1911, but it's the only way. PRK isn't out to ban guns, because they can't. They'll just make laws to highly limit what can get in. Like the AB1219 smart gun law, if passed will go into effect in 2006 and there's no grandfather clause like the assault rifle ban. Sorry about getting political, but I wanted a STI or SV also, ended up buying a Para since no one wants to sell their used STI or SV's. PRK, the only state that tells you what guns are dangerous and when you can turn on your light.
  3. I learned a dry fire practice from Bruce Gray at a shooting clinic. You can read it on the Laser-Cast newsletter. http://www.laser-cast.com/s_j_winter2001/Page5.html
  4. We didn't learn much on personality theories, only one class. Most of my classes were related to the bio aspects of psych. INTP
  5. I have a B.S. in Psychology from UC Davis, and I don't have a clue what you're talking about. Maybe that B.S. is worth as much as the other BS. I guess that's why I'm still in school, mechanical engineering this time.
  6. It's CM99-40. At least you don't have no shoots. I hate shooting Hoser Heaven, yet it keeps popping up at the local matches. Always manage to get a couple of no shoots.
  7. Something similiar is CM99-14 Hoser Heaven. It's easy to shoot all 6 shots freestyle, but strong hand and weak hand, it's best to go after T1, T3, and T5 with good A hits and if you have time go back for the other ones. (Edited by Scooter at 1:59 pm on June 5, 2001)
  8. Brian, Does the women category count? If so, it's between Julie Goloski and Kay Clark Miculek. Julie won by 2.18 sec in 1999. Kay won by 5.52 in 2000.
  9. The biggest problem is no one wants to be a match director. So you get the same few people doing, and if they are doing it wrong, they get yelled at by the shooters. Then all of a sudden, you don't have any match director. Next thing you know, no matches. Have you noticed that most match directors are newer shooters? If you don't like the way matches are run, be a match director. Make other people play by your rules. Just beware of the match director's curse. What I really hate is when you are busy trying to set up the courses, and someone comes along, stands around for a while picking their nose and bitching about why the course aren't set up and why it's taking so long. Please remember that this is a volunteer sport. Everyone should pitch in and help whenever they can. There is a pretty high burn out rate among club officers and match directors.
  10. It's not the quantity that counts, it's the quality.
  11. Dropping the slide on an empty chamber does far more damage than dry firing. You can always use a snap cap for practicing dry fire.
  12. I used to race bicycles, until I got burnt out and discover shooting. I raced road, mountain, and cyclocross. I was crazy enough to race mtb on a cyclocross bike. There's nothing like passing cars on a downhill, doing 50+ mph on two small contact patches 1/4" x 2", wearing tissue thin Lycra. Boy do I miss it. What I don't miss is all the training to get up to the top of the mountain to ride down. I also don't miss crashing or getting taken out by someone in a race. Going 24.5 mph to 0 mph in 4 feet really hurts.
  13. Power Factor = Bullet weight (grains) x Velocity (fps) / 1000.
  14. When Jerry set the world record of 8 shots in .99 sec, that's averaging 0.12375 sec splits.
  15. I know it serves little or no practical purpose. It just one of those things you do when you are bored at the range.
  16. I was just curious as how anyone can move their finger that fast. I can shoot .20 splits with two of my guns, a Browning Buckmark for steel and a HK P7M8 for IDPA/steel. The Buckmark has a 2 lbs trigger with about 1.5 mm of travel. The P7 has a longer throw, never measured the weight. Even using a stopwatch, I can only move my finger fast enough to get a .15 split. It just amazes me how someone can get a .12 split.
  17. Here's my quote on steel. "Steel is humbling." It separate the men from the boys. Shooting steel is hard and unforgiving. You either hit it or you didn't. At the same time, it is addictive like a drug. Once you start, you can't stop. I think steel is the best practice for newbies. You can only shoot as fast as you can hit them. You have to pay attention to your sight picture at all times. It also gives you instant feedback when you miss.
  18. Scooter

    Finger speed

No matter how hard I try or the gun I use, I can't pull the trigger faster than 0.20 sec. How do people get splits into the 0.1's?
  19. I prefer the 3M texture tapes from the hardware store. It doesn't feel like gripping sandpaper.
  20. Concentration is also a big factor. I had a pretty good run going on smoke & hope until I broke my concentration on the third string, then it was all downhill from there on that stage. All the jams I had in the 22 class didn't help either. I got either fustrated and missed more or got pissed off and shot faster. Brian, on Runabout, you refer to the order of 1243 as being "dangerous." I was told to shoot that order and to stand in the front left corner of the shooting box. Supposely that position reduces the separation between the plates and the swing from the third plate to the stop plate is fairly short.
  21. There's one in Sacto every 2nd Sunday of the month. Too bad there isn't a list of shooting order for the older steel stages.
