  1. if your emp is new i would give it a couple thousand rounds to break in. i have a kimber with the very infamous external extractor (have ran a flawless 3-4k plus rounds by the way ) and it left the exact same mark in nearly an identical spot. the more rounds i fired, the less pronounced the dent became and now it no longer exists. fwiw i really hated those dents also. keep shooting, thats my solution!
  2. i find that i'm very good at this task for 8 hours a day. i work in an extremely competitive construction field. any time a tool is picked up and put down and picked up again time is wasted. in my trade we call this tool exchange time. same concept of assembly line work i suppose. i find that i have become very good at ways to micromanage my movements at work so that i have become good enough to keep my job when others have fell short. the rest of the day on the other hand i really suck at it. i especially notice that if there is a task that isn't in my normal daily routine (like remembering a dvd for a friend at work) i will ultimately forget about it when i remembered perfectly well to put it in my vehicle the night before. thanks for posing this challenge brian.
  3. any relation to Mr. Spock?
  4. a favorite of mine that has not been mentioned yet is AVO. try any of their smokes with a maduro wrapper if you want it similar to your patel's.
  5. the club i shoot at in wisconsin allows .22. it is not a uspsa sanctioned range, but they call the action pistol nights an introduction to uspsa style shooting. there are guys who use the new ar style .22 rifles with 30 round mags (and its called action pistol). other people use the usual .22's such as ruger or browning. it's a very laid back place to learn. all the scoring for the action pistol nights is comstock. it's great to see younger people with little to no experience come out and learn about the sport and the people. and they get to do this without having to worry about the added expense of a centerfire firearm or ammo to feed it.
  6. you guys use any co2 powered pellet or bb guns for training? looking for a 1911 platform that can handle some abuse.
  7. first belt i bought was a double alpha and the next was a cr speed super high torque. i like them both.
  8. your replies are greatly appreciated guys. can't wait to try out this technique! thanks again for the help.
  9. Awesome. Thanks You very much for the reply.
  10. Nobody eh? I'm chomping at the bit here guys. Anything?
  11. gotta give you an "at a boy" for the funniest title for a post i've seen in a long time. it just speaks to me.
  12. last fun match i shot had swingers. i've only shot at them maybe 3 or 4 times. this last time confirmed my feelings of the first few times. they suck. i feel like i have fundamentals down as far as shooting goes. i can call my shots more often than not, and i am visually aware of my front sight. i am completely lost when it comes to swingers though. the problem i think i have is sight picture. i can get good hits if i wait for the swinger to get to the end and fire one shot. then in order for me to get another hit i have to wait for it to swing to the other side and then back before i press my next shot. if there are 2 plus swingers in a stage that adds up to too much time wasted for me to be comfortable with. last time i tried pressing two quick shots i got one hit and one mike. same thing for the second swinger in the stage. what is your technique to mastering this wobbly devil of a target? my guess is that i need to get my splits down to a time quicker than the swinger oscillates. thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.
  13. +1 on loading a dummy round every once in a while in the magazines. when my buddies and i first started shooting more than just recreationally we found that we all flinched off shots. it's something you have to be honest with yourself with though. snap caps work great because you can practice for malfunctions at the same time. i always knew when i jerked the trigger on a shot because my buddies were there to point and laugh when i messed up. point is when we started doing this it forced us to slow down and focus on the fundamentals of the trigger. next time your out, have a friend load your mags. it's good practice and good fun!
  14. alright gentlemen, it's been a while since i've been on czcustom shop site and i just saw the czech mate. i gotta say my heart fluttered a bit when i saw this gun. does anybody here have any personal experience with it? i've been shooting a tac sport for a couple years now, and it's my favorite of my arsenal. it's probably got 5-7k rounds on it and i've yet to have a malfunction of any kind. all the extras that this gun comes with seems like a screaming deal for the price they are asking. i'm dying for some feedback guys, so thanks in advance for your time. any additional off topic info about the gun is very welcome as well. thanks.
  15. I've noticed the same scenario on my 550. Best I can tell you if its a flake or two you have nothing to worry about. If my memory serves me 3 kernals of varget (tubular rifle powder ) weighs about a tenth of a grain. So a couple flakes of titegroup should weigh less. If your concern is charge weight IMO you have little to worry about unless you start reloading for long range precision rifle. As far as the why it could be static, humidity, or case lube and I'm sure other scenarios. I'm a believer in starting the problem solving with the easiest fix. Wipe the expander with a fabric softener cloth for static. Keep it clean for case lube. And if you can narrow it down to humidity crank up the AC or dehumidifier.
  16. i absolutely love this question. it's one of my favorite experiments to do whenever i have the opportunity. im going to take a different approach to answering the question though. i'm not sure what calibers you reload, or what kind of powder selection is in your arsenal, but here is my suggestion if you have the resources. the most noticeable difference in felt recoil for me has been with .45 acp. the two powders that have given the biggest difference in felt recoil have been power pistol and aa#2. power pistol to me feels much more violent than #2. if you have the resources and want to feel a difference, this combination works (for my perception anyway) but would be surprised if shooters would disagree. i should note that both loads chronographed at 850fps with 230 ball ammo.
  17. 750! That's amazing be! I suppose I should let everyone rest easy and let you all know that I don't try breaking records when I'm at the reloading bench (except this time). I've been using my 550 for about three years now I think and a few days ago was when I decided to test this. I usually load comfortably and safely around 400 rounds an hour. I was as focused and careful as I could be while doing this self test. Was just curious how quick others Have gone because I had the sneaking suspicion that I wasn't the only one who has timed myself. Thanks for the replies all!
  18. Just curious how fast others are on their 550. The rules are as follows. Please provide your fastest 100 reloaded round time with the primer tube full and everything ready to rip. I timed myself today and was 9 minutes flat for 100 rounds of 38 super. If you're quicker than that will you Please explain your techniques for doing so. Have fun and reload safely!
  19. Welcome to arguably the finest forum on the interweb. Enjoy those pistols! Shoot straight be safe and ask questions. I probably wont be the one answering them with profound wit or knowledge but there are certainly people here capable of doing so.
  20. http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html don't know any kind of shooters more particular about brass prep than people who shoot benchrest. i've never tried it, but if it's good for them theres a solid chance it's good for anyone trying to clean brass.
  21. from a ballistics perspective i'm going to assume your rounds are traveling at 2800fps since you're charge is just a tad light as some others here have mentioned. if you're at a 100 yard zero the bullet is real close to 16 inches lower at 300 yards. i plugged your atmospheric variables in a ballistics calculator using a 55 gr v-max. it's a close enough baseline (for me anyway) at said distance. for the variables you did not specify such as humidity and barometric pressure i just used standard variables of 70 percent humidity and 29.92 of mercury. if my assumed variables are way off it wouldn't impact these numbers by much at this distance. assuming there was a 5mph crosswind at exactly 90 degrees it would blow your bullet roughly 6 inches over if you were hitting bullseyes at 100 yards. you shooting 1.5" groups at 100 so lets call that 1.5moa. at 300 yards it would translate into 4.5 inch groups if all other variables were perfect. at 300 yards your bullets are certainly not near becoming trans sonic. with the above data they should not see that stage of flight until around 650 yards. hope this helps. safe and happy shooting!
  22. what is the magazine capacity for a 40 caliber 126mm and 140mm factory (untuned) magazine? what is the magazine capacity for a 45 caliber 126mm and 140mm factory (untuned) magazine? both questions are regarding a double stack magazine. thanks in advance for the help guys.
  23. best thing you can do is read the links that were posted. i loaded on a single stage for a few years before purchasing my 550 so i had a very good handle on the process. some days i wish i would have spent the extra money on a 650 and other days i'm glad i got what i did. those days are the ones where i need to switch calibers or more accurately when i need to switch primer sizes. i don't have any time logged on a 650 but i know that switching calibers is more involved. if you are going to primarily shoot one caliber i'd look toward the 650.
  24. Not a problem. I'm glad its what you're looking for. Im not sure its proper etiquette to link other forums or not? It does satisfy the heart of this forum though and that is to contribute to the shooting sports. Good luck digesting all the information. If you end up renting those DVDs please let me know what you think of them.
