  1. Good Afternoon, The counts are sure to change before the match. Joanna and I shot a special six classifier stage match March 2nd, but they were not able to send the payment in time for the March classifier update. I feel pretty confident that I moved up to A and Joanna will probably end up in C, from unclassified. She had a good run going but on one of the Fluffy's (the one with the full size poppers), one popper required two hits to fall. It was later calibrated when another shooter complained. The way she shot most of the stages, I thought she might pull out a B. We will see how the counts stack up after April 15. Hopefully, the match is full by then as well!
  2. Good Morning, Thank you Tom! Yes, I agree that the new test should have been announced. I was lucky in using my low light gun, as my outdoor gun and my indoor backup gun both have Carmoney style hammers. Griz, with a Carmoney style hammer, one can cock the hammer and open the cylinder, or one can open the cylinder and then pull the trigger and cycle the hammer. The problem with this is that there is the potential for the hammer to fall and strike a primer while a chamber is not aligned with the barrel.
  3. Good Morning, Try some 180 grain bullets. I made up a 357 load for ESR with Remington 180 grain, semi-jacketed, hollow points that was not bad to shoot. The bullets are almost round nose as the hollow point is very small and the semi jacket makes for easier cleaning. That was just an experiment, mind you, I shoot 200 grain 40s or 230 grain 45s mostly, for ESR.
  4. Good Morning, I too shot this match, SSR EX 1st place, and had my revolver inspected. I usually shoot a 686-5 that I sent to Mike. My Carmonized 686-5 has a Dawson fiber optic 0.100" front sight and a plain black rear sight. For S&W, I shot my 686-6 that I worked on. The 686-6 has night sights installed front and rear. The hammer on the -6 has been skeletonized. I cut off the spur and smooth everything up top and I drill and grind everywhere possible down below so that the hammer looks like a skeleton. Actually, both guns have about a six pound trigger pull, but it is a lot more work to make the skeleton version. So it was lucky for me that I took the -6. I was told that the reasoning behind the function test with the cylinder open, is that Smith & Wesson engineers were consulted before the match, and it was their decision that removing the part of the hammer that interacts with the tab on the back of the bolt is disabling a safety device. IDPA rules specifically prohibit disabling a safety device. So, now I have some swapping to do. I have a couple of IDPA guns with Carmoney style hammers and I am going to put those on guns for USPSA, ICORE and steel. I will use the skeleton type hammers for IDPA.
  5. Good Afternoon, Here is my video of the 2013 Indoor Nationals. Before anyone comments on what they think is poor officiating, please remember that if you were not present for the stage briefing, then you have no idea how the stage was presented to the shooters. I have run a state championship, two regional sanctioned matches and a national championship and I did not see anything but great officiating. A lot of the staff did not even finish the match as the staff shoot day must have been full of problems. There were many staff members whose name is not even on the final results, as well as many DNFs. Even so, everyone was polite and pleasant. Thank you to staff!
  6. Good Morning, I am sorry if someone already suggested this, as I have not read all twenty pages of this thread, but do we need a special match to test the outcome of 8 shot verses 6 shot? All we need are a group of 6 shot revolver major shooters and an evenly class matched group of L10 shooters using 8 shot revolvers in minor at one match. I would think that the most difficult part would be getting enough shooters to make the results valid. If our local matches allow it, those of us with both guns could shoot both guns in one match and compare the results.
  7. Good Morning, "Unfortunately , Here in NJ we do not have any ICORE events. I've spoken to a few people at my local club about maybe trying to facilitate a match, but I would not know where to begin." We shoot a monthly ICORE match in Hellertown PA on the Friday after the third Tuesday, from 7pm to 9pm. Ontelaunee, in New Tripoli PA, will run one or two regular weekend matches as well as the postal match and the East Coast Regional Championship.
  8. Good Afternoon, Ken Ortbach, B class, Hellertown PA Joanna Lenczewska, UN for now, Hellertown PA
  9. Good Morning, Joanna and I received our confirmations yesterday as well. Woohoo! We have shot Area matches but this will be our first USPSA Nationals.
  10. Good Afternoon, As to "where do you get it?", Practiscore with IDPA scoring is an application for an Apple device. On an iPhone or iPad Practiscore is a free download from the App Store. As to how we run the matches, at both Hellertown PA and Phillipsburg NJ, we run two squads and require two iDevices and a wireless router. The stage information is input before the match on my iPhone. Registration is done on one device and the shooters are separated into squads on the device. Just before hammer down, the devices are sync'ed. The squads shoot the match and scoring is done on the squad's device. At the end of the match, the devices are sync'ed again and the results are ready. At Easton PA next year, we are done now until March, we will require more devices as we have three or four squads. I sent an email out to the Phillipsburg shooters about our first use of Practiscore and several shooters came with their iDevices already loaded with Practiscore. The key is to have a wireless router to allow the devices to sync.
  11. Good Evening, So match scoring went well. The results are posted on the Practiscore web site, under Match Results - PPC IDPA
  12. Good Morning, I have been using Practiscore for the Hellertown USPSA practice match I run. It is a great smart device application. With a donated wireless router for the range, it takes less than a minute after the last shot of the match to sync the devices and present the match results. Practiscore now supports IDPA scoring. There is one holdup, there is bug for iDevices not on iOS 6, but a fix has already been made and the update will be available in a few days. We are going to try using Practiscore today for the Phillipsburg Pistol Club IDPA match. I am looking forward to the extra free time when I do not have to enter scores from score sheets.
  13. Good Morning, Well, none of the original posters have noticed this revised thread, so I will report back after I have run the gun is some matches. Keeping with the lightweight theme, I have acquired a 386 XL Hunter and replaced the seven shot cylinder with a 686 six shot cylinder. I am going to run the 386 in ICORE Classic.
  14. Good Afternoon Jerry, A 327 JM is product 170254. It was only made around 2008. I do not know how many were made. Google 327 JM or S&W 170254 and you should see some pictures. The gun is a N frame. The frame is scandium. The barrel shroud and cylinder are titanium and it has the JM grips. The gun came in a PC zippered gun rug. Picking up the rug, does not feel like a gun is inside, as the 327 JM is that light. I saw one on Gunbroker several months ago and decided to wait to bid at the last minute. The seller pulled the gun before the auction end as there were not any bids! I really liked the way the gun looks and I was looking for a light weight, long barrel, 8 shot revolver for steel challenge. I have a 327 PD but the barrel is only 4 inches. The 327 JM is 5 inches. Sorry it took me a few days to reply, we were at IDPA Nationals.
  15. Good Morning, So, four years later, does anyone have an update on the longevity of the 327 JM? I see some of the top guys using the 327 R8 for steel but I cannot stand the looks of that barrel with the rails. I just picked up a 327 JM.
  16. Good Morning, I do not believe that women are limiting themselves by competing only amongst themselves. I am fortunate that Joanna shoots almost every shooting sport with me, in fact we met at an IDPA match. Joanna does not compare herself to the other women at a match, she compares herself to the men. In a similar fashion, because I shoot revolver in IDPA and USPSA, and there are usually so few other revolver shooters, I compare myself to everyone shooting the match. I get great satisfaction from besting bottom feeders just as Joanna gets great satisfaction from besting men. All of the women shooters that I know feel it is "nice" to win High Lady, but they want the class or division win as much as anyone else.
  17. Good Morning, I shot an IDPA sanctioned match with a stage in which everyone loaded loose rounds. I cannot remember everything, but at some point everyone had to load loose rounds from a box of ammo. The scenario had the shooter returning home from the gun shop when bad things happened. Anyway, the ESR shooters could load a moon clip and then load the gun or load loose rounds. The last six rounds of the stage were after this loose round load. I think that the crimp on one's ammunition will determine if loose rounds will fire in a moon clip gun. Headspacing on the case mouth does not work well with a heavy crimp.
  18. Good Morning, This is kind of related to the thread. There is a 646 on Gun Broker right now that is up to $1600 with 1 1/2 days until the auction closes. I may have to put the original barrel back on this project gun!
  19. Good Morning, Sam, I am very pleased with the way the gun turned out. Hopefully, I will see you at a future PSA, or when I get my butt down to the MCC. Chad, with that long barrel and minor loads for steel, the gun does shoot flat. I shoot a P14-45 Limited sometimes, so you are not alone. Cd662, we had a pretty good squad at S&W. I am shooting a lot of matches this year, (Steel Challenge, USPSA, IDPA, ICORE) so perhaps we will meet again.
  20. Good Morning, Thank you for the heads up. I will certainly not shoot the Maine State IDPA Championship in the future. I have thought about it a few times but it did not fit into my plans. I also do not recall ever seeing anything in the match information about the muzzle direction rule. I would be really angry to make a trip to Maine and then find out I have to totally change my revolver reload.
  21. I couldn't get the link to work. Lee Good Morning, Try it again, I had the privacy settings incorrect.
  22. Good Evening, Just to freshen this thread. Here is a video of the 646.
  23. Good Evening, Here is a clip of my 627 with the Alchin and C-More.
  24. Good Morning,

You were right. I shot open revo in the morning because I do not shoot open that much. I felt that my best chance for a good finish was in stock revo, which I shot in the afternoon. I was just too worn out at the end of the afternoon.

  25. Good Morning, The test was yesterday. Joanna shot the 6 inch 646 in stock revo at the PSA Shootout yesterday morning, and I shot it yesterday afternoon. I was very pleased with this project gun. I will try to post a link to some video soon.
