  1. Good Morning, That is the exact setup that I have Lee (the Alchin and C-More railway with the rail removed). It worked well at the PSA Shootout yesterday. I will try to post a picture over the weekend.
  2. Good Morning,

Do you think that you could change stock auto to the afternoon? I shoot mostly stock revolver, so I am using the open revolver run as a warm up. I placed 8th in stock revo last year, our first time, but after shooting some stages I had wished that I had approached them differently.

By shooting open first, I will have my "practice run".

  3. Good Evening,

Joanna and I are shooting all day Thursday. I will shoot Open Revolver in the morning with a 627-4 (38 Super) and Stock Revolver in the afternoon with the new 646.

  4. Hello Ryan,

Thank you for chosing me as a friend. Have we ever met?

  5. I looked but didn't see the answer...did you put a re-worked 6 inch barrel on a 646 frame and cylinder ? Good Morning, Dave, you could look earlier to get the whole story, but if you start at post #30, you should be able to get up to speed. I ordered the 0.250 and 0.300 tall Dawson sights last night. After I placed the order, I noticed that they are 0.125 wide. I have been using the 0.100 wide sights. I will see how they look, and I can always mill them down to 0.100.
  6. Good Morning, I shot the 6" 646 at my local USPSA practice on Tuesday evening. It is still too early to say if it is better or worse than a 5" 625, but it was a little stout and I had a couple of sticky moon clips. I chronoed my 180 gr. Barry's plated round nose load yesterday, and it came out to almost 190 power factor! So, I am going to come up with a new major load and develop a minor load as well and report back. I need to get a taller front sight as well. I put a S&W 0.196 tall rear sight, with a Dawson 686 0.230 tall x 0.100 wide front sight and the shots are a couple of inches high with the rear sight all of the way down. That cost me one miss on a head shot target on Tuesday. I will get the DX 0.300 tall sight and cut it to fit the 686 slot.
  7. Good Afternoon, I finished the 6" inch 646. Hopefully, I will have some time to shoot it this weekend. I have attached two pictures. I put a bone stock 646 and my IDPA ESR 646 in the pictures for reference.
  8. Good Afternoon, The six inch 646 project has me thinking about other projects. I performed a search but did not see an answer. I realize that a special tool will be required to remove the barrel from the 327 PD, but will a standard steel barrel from a six shot gun fit? I have read that the bore of an eight shot is a little higher in the frame than a six shot. This would then lead to problems with the extractor rod slot being out of alignment with the extractor rod.
  9. Good Afternoon, I have Hearthco clips for my 627s but not for the 686, and I was just using 38 Special brass. I may have some 185 grain 45 bullets on the shelf, but I have my presses all set up for my "standard" loads and I have a standard 40 minor for pistols that I would use for the PSA in the 646. I started shooting IDPA ESR with a 610 and then went to 625 and I found that I could move the gun quicker. With the 646 being so light, it really feels fast and there are lots of transisions at the PSA. I have 5 inch 625s for USPSA. I hope to take advantage of the longer 6 inch sight radius. I have never shot, or handled a 6 inch 625.
  10. I actually wanted this build for shooting the PSA, a falling steel match here in PA. In the stock revolver division, it is six rounds and then reload. I shot my ICORE Classic division gun, a six inch 686 cut for moon clips, last year. After the match, I started to think that a 646 would be awesome for the PSA. Of course a 646 with a six inch barrel would be more awesome. I just did not want to mess with minor 45 loads, and the 40s will be much faster to reload over the 38s. So, that was my reason for building a six inch 646. Of course I am going to try it in ICORE and USPSA.
  11. Good Morning, The barrel arrived from Clearwater Reboring yesterday. It looks great. I screwed it into the frame by hand just to see how it looks, and it looks very cool! I have to cut a forcing cone and crown the the muzzle before putting it back in for good. I will try to post a picture when it is finished.
  12. Good Afternoon, I spoke to Jim at Clearwater this afternoon, and the barrel will ship this week or early next week. I have the action all tuned up. I cannot wait to put this gun together and try it out.
  13. Good Afternoon, Please consider shooting the 2012 Polish National IDPA Championship. http://www.idpa2012.strzelnica.org/ It will be worth three match points towards the US Nationals!
  14. Good Morning, I would not be so sure about that Pete. The rule requires a scale with 0.2 ounce repeatability. What the rule is stipulating, is that if you weigh something on your scale, twice, both measurements have to be within 0.2 ounces. That does not automatically give everyone 0.2 over the listed maximum. The scale I use at my sanctioned matches measures to four decimal places and will give the measurement to three decimal places consistently. If a shooter's ESP gun weighed 43.1 ounces at my match, they would be out of luck. For anyone wondering, we have test weights on hand if someone disputes a measurement. But, to the original question, I would not worry about your half ounce margin.
  15. Good Morning, Ken Reed, thank you for taking the time to write your article for the Tactical Journal. I was shocked when I read that you use the center of the target as your reference point when aligning the target and the cover. I have never before heard of, or experienced anyone using the center of the target. Here on the east coast, I have always seen the outside edge of the target used. Now, I understand the argument about the threat's gun being at the center of their body, but how do we know that? Maybe they are point shooting. Personally, I do not think that this is good for IDPA. The rule is already subjective enough and now the SO has to determine the center of the target? The edge of the target is not subjective. Also, where in the rule book does it explain that we are using cover in reference to the threat's gun. We are using cover in reference to the threat target. We can obviously have a difference of opinion, but this type of situation is not good for IDPA. If you and I are running each other on a stage, I will be calling cover on you, and you will notice how far from your edge of cover I am engaging targets. This should be added to the tiger team agenda. I will be fine if it goes either way, but I would like it to be spelled out.
  16. Good Morning, Just an update on the 6 inch 646 project. The 6 inch 686 barrel is at Clearwater reboring. The 646 frame is completely stripped and the original barrel is off. This gun was dirty! It took quite an effort to clean up. The cylinder chambers have been chamfered. The upgrade parts have arrived except for the new sights. I will be starting to work on the action parts soon.
  17. Good Morning, I am going to use Clearwater Reboring (www.deltagunshop.com). I read good reviews of their work. The barrel will be bored, reamed and cut rifled. The rifling will be 0.390 bore, 0.4005 groove and 1:16 twist. I will post something when it is complete.
  18. Good Morning, I would like to see a change to the difference one can have in classes between the divisions. I feel that there should be one class difference allowed. Seeing someone classified as Master in one division and then shooting Sharpshooter, or worse, in another is just wrong. Whatever your highest classification, your classification in the other divisions will be automatically adjusted.
  19. Good Morning, Actually, I bought that 646 for $900. It may have gone for less with regular bidding, but the auction was going to end while I was driving to North Carolina for a match, so I used the Buy it Now feature. I also bought a 686, 6" barrel and I plan to have it re-bored to 40 caliber and then put on the new 646. I really like my 646s, but I wanted one with a longer barrel.
  20. Good Morning, Where did you have the 686 barrel rebored? I have been thinking of doing the same thing. I love my 646's but I would like a longer barrel.
  21. Good Morning, We have a Dawson ICE, heavy (brass) magwell on a G24 for USPSA Limited. Recently, I put the ICE light (aluminum) on a G35 for IDPA ESP. The ICE uses a plastic cover for the bottom of the magwell. This covers the attachment fasteners, is a slick surface and can be replaced. The whole unit can be removed if you would like to use your Glock for SSP. We have not had a problem seating stock factory magazines and it fits in the box.
  22. Good Morning, I am going to shoot the Blackwater match. This will be our fifth trip to NC for the shootout. If it is your first time, it will be extremely different from any previous IDPA match. The shoot houses consist of hallways and rooms. The targets are on moveable backstops and the walls have kevlar lining (from what I am told). You will at some point be thinking, as you make your way through the maze, that you are shooting in the direction of where the squad is waiting. Of course it is safe, but it is a little weird! The first few times we went, the stages were almost exactly the same each year, and it was somewhat boring, but in the last two years, the organizers have made several changes and each match is new and exciting. I was told that the AC for the area has been replaced so there may be more changes this year. One year, some people shot twice, in different divisions, both for score. One year there were blind stages for score. Each of these issues were corrected the following year. It does seem that some of the stages require more movement than allowed, so perhaps that will be different as well. There is nothing around Blackwater. You can arrange to stay on site in bunk houses. If you stay in Virginia Beach, there are plenty of hotels and restaurants and it is less than 30 minutes to Blackwater. Last year, the results were posted within a day of the match. In previous years, it took longer. It has always taken months for the trophies to arrive. The match is in October and some time in March or April, a package will arrive from a power washing company in Virginia. That will be your trophy, so do not throw it out! There have been other types of side matches in the past. I believe that there are steel side matches both Saturday and Sunday this year, and Blackwater has a lot of steel. I hope that you enjoy the experience!
  23. Good Evening, The 2011 East Coast Regional ICORE match results are up on the Ontelaunee web site.
